Who mad? Rihanna & Adele notch another week at #1
While Rihanna kicks back in Hawaii with a blunt and gets more blazed than me on a Friday night, her iconic anthem “We Found Love” has just notched its tenth non-consecutive week atop Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
“We Found Love” is the first song by a female artist since Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” to notch ten weeks at the top (out with the old, in with the new!). Meanwhile, RiRi’s album Talk That Talk has now sold over 563,000 copies in the US, with worldwide sales just shy of the 2 million mark.
With “We Found Love” staying put atop Billboard’s Radio Songs chart, there’s a good chance that it could bad an eleventh week at No. 1 — that is, unless the almighty Adele ends Rihanna’s reign.
Adele’s third 21 single “Set Fire to the Rain” blasts to No. 2 on this week’s Hot 100. It’s also No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart, and No. 5 on Radio Songs with airplay gainer honors. Right now, the question isn’t whether or not Adele will score her third consecutive chart-topping hit — it’s when.
Meanwhile, 21 clocks its 16th week on top of the Billboard 200 album chart, making it the longest-running No. 1 since the Titantic soundtrack in 1998. It’s now the 20th album ever to score at least 16 weeks at the top. US sales have now topped 6 million copies, while total worldwide sales stand at fifty trillion billion.
Admittedly, I’ve never been able to get into 21 beyond “Rolling In The Deep”. I was, and still am a longtime 19 stan, but 21 lacks that album’s subtlety so it never grabbed me, but I still love seeing Adele rule the charts with an iron fist, if only because I love her voice and personality.
