Watch One Direction make their shaky SNL debut

History-making boy band One Direction performed on Saturday Night Live tonight, and they were nervous as HELL (or ‘HAYUL’ for dramatic effect).
The boys usually have a lot of bounce and confidence on stage that compensates for their lack of choreography and solid-but-not-amazing vocals, but the bright lights of SNL proved too much for 1D and their usual charisma was missing in action.
During “What Makes You Beautiful”, the boys kept exchanging awkward glances and continually leaning forward and clutching their stomachs like they were pregnant. Their follow-up performance of “One Thing” was a bit more of the same, with Liam rubbing salt into the wound by forgetting his place on stage at one point and nervously adjusting his hair.
Niall was probably the most comfortable on stage, but my favorite moment was at the beginning of “One Thing” when Zayn purposely poked Harry in the cheek to try and make him laugh during his part (it didn’t work — Harry continued looking uncomfortable and sounding pitchy).
I know that 1D are foreigners and all, but dayum, even the supermodels from Girls’ Generation looked more confident when they made their US TV debut, and most of ‘em can’t even speak frickin’ English.
At least 1D sounded good though, and didn’t butcher the vocals.
My poor sweet babies. Liam, Zayn, and Niall should’ve probably just stopped by my place before the performance and let me calm their nerves with some ancient stress-relieving techniques passed down to me by my ex-boyfriend, David Boreanaz (maybe you’ve heard him?).
Oh well, at least they were still much better than Lana Del Rey.
