Watch Lady GaGa & Beyonce’s “Telephone” video. Does it meet the hype?

After constant pushbacks and delays the biggest pop event of the year is finally here – Lady GaGa and Beyonce’s “Telephone” video!

The Jonas Åkerlund directed clip is inspired by Quenton Tarintino’s Kill Bill films and picks up right where “Paparazzi” left off, featuring a bad ass GaGa who’s having a ball behind bars after being locked up for killing her boyfriend.

Whilst the song itself isn’t particularly anything to write home about, the anticipation and hype for the “short film” music video has managed to reach an almost unbelievable level that hasn’t been seen in pop music for years.

Both. I don’t think it’s “bad”, but I was never excited before the premiere and I’m still not. I understand the video etc, it’s not that I didn’t “get it”, I just don’t think it’s that amazing and it’s not her best video.

She tried too hard and it showed. Some of it felt contrived and overdone, and not in the way that it was supposed to.

The video is a victim of it’s own hype. With the hype as high as it was people are bound to hate it, some for no reason, but on the other side you have people calling it a masterpiece and comparing it to MJ because they to have been influenced by hype.

I don’t want to feed into any of that. It reminds me of when average movies win Oscars because of behind the scenes politics and hype lol.

I think the fact that this video which you say is a victim of its own hype, is still better than all the crap vids that are out there. If nothing else, you have to admit that you weren’t bored watching the video. I am excited because Gaga is reviving the Video Music Genre which has become increasingly tacky and not creative as it once was. You must at least give her credit for that much.

I appreciate the effort, but I was not impressed just like with her videos and performances. The only videos I liked from her were “Bad Romance” and “LoveGame.” MJ never did anything as off the wall as “Telephone.”. He stayed true to the meaning of the song, but GaGa puts a million concepts into a video to be perceived as so artistic and ends up looking like a fool. Missy Elliott is who people should be comparing GaGa’s videos to. Missy wasn’t literal either, but she kept the general theme throughout the video and is one of the best video artists ever. I mean come on GaGa, it looks like a damn detergent commercial and she’s up here dedicating a whole scene to making a sandwich. I understand all the references, but it was not good. Stick to one theme throughout the video next time. Bey tries way too hard to stay in the spotlight and GaGa tries even harder. Bey and GaGa actually fit well together, because they are two fame whores. They know they wouldn’t stand a chance if they took a 3 or 4 year break. Bey went from DIL directly into Destiny’s Child directly to B’Day directly into I Am Nacho Fierce and had several films in between as well. Girl is money hungry. I say the real HBICs Britney and Christina should hook up. Now that would be EPIC.

Christina can tone it down for a song with Britney. They are the 21st century queens. That really would be epic. Christina is going for less soulful vocals this era as well. Britney and Christina have the biggest impact on pop culture as far as the 21st century divas goes. Girls want to dance like Britney and sing like Christina. Hopefully Christina has stepped her dance game up along with Britney.

I only liked the outfits (some of them–not all) and the dancing parts..other than that, I don’t do much care for the song or the video. I can expect Gaga to do something like this but not Beyonce…maybe this is a career move for her or something..you know..to keep her name out there or to stay relevant. Bey is already relevant…and as far as her staying that way, there is only so much she can do. The public is fickle as hell, they change all the time, I can imagine it’s hard to stay in that industry for as long as Bey has been since 1997. Gaga is only 22 and well on her way to being the second coming of Madonna–she is white so the world will be more accepting of her antics and sexual themes..Bey wouldn’t have the kind of superstardom she has today if she went that route. There is always a double standard when it comes to white and black women. Okay, so I didn’t want to comment on this video the moment I saw it, because I was going to give a bunch of biased opinions on the video. I had to watch the video about 10 times [which I've done] to come up with a reasonable explanation as to why I really enjoyed this video.

For starters, I think every one should stop complaining about the acting because it was supposed to be bad. They were channeling Quintin Tarentino’s films. If you’ve ever seen Kill Bill or Pulp Fiction, you’d get it with ease. Gaga spends a lot of money on her videos and I’m sure she could have paid one of Hollywood’s best writers to write this script, but she wanted something silly and reflective of Tarentino’s films.
Another thing that a lot of people seem to be using as a reason to ‘hate’ this video is the product placement. Gaga always has brands in her videos. This wasnt the first [i.e. LoveGame had Campari alcohol, Chanel heels, and Beats by Dre earphones.] And I honestly think that the products weren’t that distracting that they took so much from your viewing experience.

i thought the video was complete genius and very colorful. The choreography was spectacular and very iconic. She just solidifies her position as our generations Video Queen. Even if you don’t like Gaga, you’ve got to respect how she tries different approaches to entertainment and how she keeps stepping her game up. I bet even for the people who didn’t like the video, not once did you take your eyes from the video. I can’t even tell you how many times this year alone, I’ve just watched one minute of a video then stopped watching it because it was typical and boring. Learn to give props where props are due! 10/10. This is slightly better than Bad Romance–and that was a very hard feat. My prediction for her next video, not as good as this one.
