UK CHART: Pixie Lott comes out on top, The Saturdays trump Leona Lewis

With the UK having a rather short attention span when it comes to their new favorite pop tarts, I naturally assumed that Chris Crocker look-a-like Pixie Lott had reached her long-overdue expiry date by now; I was wrong, with Pixie’s hideously uninteresting new single “All About Tonight” winning this week’s UK chart battle to debut at No. 1. The mediocre blonde fought off some seriously stiff competition, beating out The Saturday’s fabulously fierce “All Fired Up”, and Leona Lewis’ controversial new single “Collide”.
It’s not all bad news, though; while The Saturday’s unfairly missed out on the top spot, they did manage to debut at No. 3, scoring their highest-charting single since last year’s hideous “Missing You”. But the most shocking part about this week’s charts isn’t that The Saturday’s avoided another flop – it’s that Leona Lewis came out as this week’s biggest loser, being beaten out by both Pixie and The Sats to debut at No. 4 with the classy “Collide”, marking her lowest-charting lead single ever. Only two of Le-Lew’s singles have ever charted lower in the UK: her Spirit repackage single “Forgive Me” at No. 5, and Echo’s “I Got You” at No. 14.
To rub salt in the wound, the less-popular Saturdays had to settle for promoting “All Fired Up” on morning television, while Leona got the privilege of a no-expenses-spared showing on the launch episode of Simon Cowell’s new game show ‘Red Or Black?‘.
Has Leona’s plagiarism scandal with Avicii really hurt her this much? Is her popularity starting to decline now? Or are people just not feeling “Collide”? Le-Lew can be a bit hit-and-miss, but “Collide” is lovely and certainly a lot better than Pixie’s “All About Tonight”, which sounds like the cheapest possible RedOne/Dr Luke leftover scrap ever made.
