Tricky Stewart talks about Christina Aguilera’s new album and producing for Beyonce
Super producer Tricky Stewart has opened up to Vibe about Christina Aguilera’s new album, revealing that Aggie was determined to create a whole new sound for the highly-anticipated record.
With Christina it’s a little different, because Christina wants music that you haven’t heard before. She did things that she’s never necessarily heard on the radio. She doesn’t want a record that sounds like anything else so you’re trying to create an entirely new sound for an artist. The three tracks that I did, they’re all uptempo tracks so we definitely kind of get the club moving but it’s just a matter of her doing different styles and using her voice in different ways.
Sounds promising, especially when you add slew of other contributors attached to the project which include Sia, Le Tigre, Flo-Rida, Diplo & Switch, Linda Perry, Claude Kelly, Santigold, M.I.A, and many more.
Tricky also spoke about working on Beyonce’s mega-smash “Single Ladies”, which Bey supposedly co-wrote and vocally produced.
No, the lyrics and melody side, that’s more of what Dream does. That’s his specialty. But at the same time as far as the vocal arrangements… Like, “Single Ladies,” that was a track that I was sitting there doing and by the time I got halfway through the track, he already had a song in his head.

I am so excited about this new Christina album and I appreciate her for always trying to do something different. Christina hasn’t really said anything about her album besides who she’s working with. It’s her collaborators that keep hyping the album up. The album would’ve been released this fall, but she signed on for that movie and wanted to promote her album so the album is just waiting to be released. I think FutureSex/LoveSounds was finished for nearly a year before he released it, because he was doing some films. By the way, beyonce was suspected (very recently) of CHEATING ON HER HUSBAND!!! She was caught coming out of a restaurant with her body guard…her lip stick was smeared and she was covering her mouth…his lips were smeared as bright red as her lip stick. Shortly afterward, Jay Z canceled several of his tour dates.
Only the urban blogs covered this (and previous rumors that beyonce was having an affair with her body guard). Britney was judged in the mainstream media.
Beyonce was not called out as harshly or as extensively as britney was for allegedly cheating on Justin (the blogs that covered the beyonce story suggested a possible affair, but did not pass judgment; britney was judged), even though Justin made no direct accusations, and only released suggestive songs/videos (these are not credible since he was obviously a disgruntled ex).
So, two women who may have cheated on their men…one is black, in her late twenties, and may have cheated on her HUSBAND (beyonce); the other is white, at the time was in her late teens, and may have cheated on her BOYFRIEND. There is no conclusive evidence either way, yet the white woman was treated like crap/the accusations presumed true, and the black woman got a pass…

And I know you love the britney v. beyonce arguments because you think that beyonce wins on singing.
Beyonce doesn’t sing- she yodels and screams. She has absolutely no idea how to finesse a song, how to use a variety of vocal stylings, or do any of the things you would expect from a talented vocalist. She thinks that yelling into a mic and yodeling make her competitive with Mariah and Whitney. She’s wrong.
And quite frankly, saying that beyonce sings better than britney spears isn’t saying much.
So what? If that’s the best comparison you can make to stan for beyonce’s so-called talent, you fail, and so does your idol. You know damn well you can’t compare her to the great vocalists, that’s why you don’t try.
I think the stans want to distract the commentary from the issue of beyonce lying about her songwriting credits.
Beyonce doesn’t write her music, and lies about it. She is known for it in the industry (even though her pr team and management do a good job of keeping her “nice” image intact). I mean are we really surprised? She’s always stealing song credits and ideas, yet people claim she’s “sweet”. Sorry, sweet people don’t continue to claim someone else’s hard work. Her ASCAP award should be investigated because she probably didn’t even write the songs she got an award for, and she was NOT the first black woman to win that award either. Her and her management keep using that bragging right when actually Kandi Buruss won that award way before her.

“I thought it was widely known that Beyonce is NOT a writer. I have my own personal reasons why I can not respect Beyonce as an artist. As a person she’s the sweetest thing and she’s a great performer but her handlers are ruthless. I’ve known about their practices for years. 2 of my former writing partners were in the first group Gyrl Tyme which ended up becoming Destiny’s Child. B. Cox, the girls from Gyrl Tyme (Destiny’s Child) and a few others in that circle grew up together in Houston. Andretta Tillman originally managed Destiny’s Child and when she died Matthew began to strong arm the group and became ruthless with his business practices. It’s one of the reasons why Bryan doesn’t work with Beyonce and her camp and if you know the history of DC you’ll know that B.Cox and the other girls all had business relationships because they all came up in the industry together. He’ll work with LeToya & Kelly and if Latavia were to call he’d have her back too but you’ll rarely see him working with Beyonce.
I remember when Beyonce was starting I am Sasha Fierce and one of the A&Rs came to the studio and told us Beyonce was looking for material for her album. The catch was you had to give up 30% of your publishing if you wanted to work with her even though she didn’t write on the song. Now as a writer you only get 50% of the writer’s share and if there are other writers on the project you have to split 50% with the other writers. So with Beyonce getting 30% of the writer’s share off top then that leaves 20% of the remainder writer’s share to be split between the remainder writers and if there are 3 other writers credited then you come out with 6.6 % of the song which isn’t much. The thing is you’ll still see your credits in the linear notes along with her name and then she gets on stage in her concerts and talks about how SHE wrote the song. Most of the time when a song is submitted to her it’s already written, demoed, recorded and arranged. She gets the song and rearranges the vocals and then she’s able to get her writing credit. Vocal arrangement is apart of the creative process but there is no way she should take the majority of the publishing off of vocal production alone.
So that’s how she’s able to get away with getting her writing credit. It’s not uncommon for artists to do this though but most artists don’t take all the credit for the songs in their interviews. With Beyonce she’ll tell the story of how she was walking on the beach and the song came to her…etc and that’s the thing I can’t get with because that’s not the truth. It would be one thing if she sat in on the sessions with the writers and wrote the songs with them but she doesn’t do that.
Anyway, that’s the gist of how things work behind the scenes.”

I’m unbiased but Africa- I know you love Beyonce but she does not have the most #1′s of this decade, Usher does. And she is tied for females with Rihanna. Also, the biggest selling female artist of the decade is Britney Spears not Beyonce. I am not talking in terms of talent, I’m talking sales. Also, Britney had the highest grossing tour of 2009. Do some research check wikipedia or billboard.com. Hope this sheds some light and in the end like who you like don’t let sales dictate on what good art is.

For your information, the phrase “dark continent” has historically referred to africa.
The europeans who first came to africa called it “the dark continent” 1) because the peoples of africa were darker than europeans, and 2) because europeans were long ignorant of the continent’s interior geography.
The variety of skin colors in africa come from the western AND eastern slave trade/colonization.
I probably know more about the history of “the dark continent” than you do. And as much as I’d love to give an ignoramus like you a history lesson, it would be beside the point.
The point is, you’ve named yourself after a continent OF BLACK PEOPLE (whatever their current varieties in skin color), AND YOUR IDOL WOULD RATHER BE KNOWN AS CREOLE. Unless of course she’s accepting an award or distinction having to do with being black. Then being “black” is okay.
And yes, I know that creoles are really black. The problem is, historically, creoles have distinguished themselves from blacks, and have insisted that they are a distinct ethnic group (although “creole” is really a culture).
