TIME 100: Rain and Beyonce on top, Kanye flops

TIME magazine released the results of their TIME 100 “Most Influential People in the World” poll today, and for the third time, South Korean mogul Rain took the top spot. The multi-talented entertainer won the poll back in 2006 and 2007, and ranked second in 2008.
The win isn’t a huge shock considering Rain’s popularity throughout Asia, as well as in America. He’s already starred in two US films (“Speed Racer” and “Ninja Assassin”), and just last year took home a US MTV Movie Award for “Biggest Badass Star”. He humanitarian work would have also been another factor in his win, as would his popularity as a pop artist, which has seen him have success not just in South Korea and throughout Asia, but beyond — he’s sold out Arenas in Australia and sold out Madison Square Garden twice in New York. Rain has also done extremely well with his entertainment company J. Tune — he used the company to launch his own boy band MBLAQ in 2009, who have become extremely popular and have now started expanding outside of South Korea and into Taiwan and Japan.
Coming in second on the list is Taiwanese superstar Jay Chou. The 32-year-old is wildly successful across Asia as an actor, director, producer, musician, and mini-mogul, and just last year he expanded into America with a starring role in the US blockbuster film The Green Hornet.
Susan Boyle came in third on the list, providing that her popularity is still going strong two years after her debut. Just this past Christmas, Boyle’s holiday-themed sophomore album The Gift shifted over four million copies.
The only other pop star in the top ten is Beyonce, who appeared on the list for the first time, coming in at No.6. The booty shaker has a cabinet full of Grammy awards and a slew of television commercials and endorsement deals to thank for her spot.
And last and most definitely least is Kanye West, who was voted the absolute LEAST influential person in the whole world. With the TIME 100 being voted for by readers across the world, the results are a stinging reminder of just how much everybody hates Mr. Kanye West.
