Taylor Swift’s record-breaking new single set to top the Hot 100

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the biggest pop star of them all?

This week, Flo-rida beat out Ellie Goulding to become the one to end Carly Rae Jepsen’s Hot 100 reign, but his time at the top is going to be short lived. According to Billboard, Taylor Swift is likely to land her first #1 next week when her new single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” blasts to the Hot 100 summit with record-breaking force.

Latest industry predictions have “Never Ever” set for a sales-week of between 500,000-600,000 copies. The big numbers will easily trump the 448,000 Lady GaGa sold last year with “Born this Way”, earning Swift the largest debut for a digital song by a woman in history.

Despite “Never Ever” only hitting radio on late Monday, it managed to rack up an astonishing 40 million audience impressions in 2 days. That was enough for a No. 25 on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart and a No. 72 debut on the Hot 100.

Once “Never Ever” logs its first full-week of sales and airplay, it should be enough to rocket it all the way to No. 1.

    What the hell is our music industry and music world coming to? Taylor has indeed sold her soul to the devil releasing all these bubblegum heartbreak men bashing songs. she’s 22 years old still singing about her exes. Nothing wrong with a few songs like that here and there but its why I’ve never been into her. Everything she releases is about an ex. And of ciurse this song is #1 on itunes and bound for a high debut next week. This is even more proof that her music only appeals to the teenage demographic.

    There’s a huge misconception that Taylor Swift’s music is ‘immature’ when it’s actually more mature, well-written, and thought-out than the majority of popular music.

    With that said, “Never Ever” actually is quite immature and I’d rate it as her youngest single since probably her first album.

    It’s funny though that most the people who always criticize her and her music are now enjoying her new single just because it’s more typically top forty pop than her other country-pop concoctions lol.

    I used to be the biggest Taylor hate and trashed her music as immature and basic when I really didn’t know that much about her music at all. I didn’t get it. Then when I finally did I realized how wrong I was. and now I always see people ignorantly trashing her music and I understand where they’re coming from coz I was there at one point, most of them are completely wrong.

    Christina does have a few songs about men but not all of them are about men. The diffrrence between Christina and Taylor is that not only is Christina more talented but she has a variety of songs we call all relate to in different subjects whereas Taylor doesn’t have anything outside of broken relationships to sing about.     It’s crap like this that reminds me of how badly the music industry and radio sucks these days. I mean, Taylor Swift was never the most inventive & creative songstress, but she had her own style, and something fresh, which is why millions of people noticed her and made her what she is today. And what does she do with fame? She sells the hell out. She has become a carbon-copy of what her record label tells her to be. She has taken her original image as the “young, innocent girl with big country talent” and tried to stretch it as far as it will go, album after album, year after year, awards show after awards show. This is what they all do, the current crop of Top 40 kings and queens: they have something original, something that sets them apart; they see that their “X Factor” works, that it sells well; and instead of growing and evolving as an artist, they try to recreate the same image, persona, and music over and over again, until it turns to shit. If there was any hope for redemption as an artist after she participated in the Kanye West shenanigans for cheap media attention, it ended when she hired Max Martin. Yes, he will ensure that she remains “popular” and continues to stay in the Top 40. I’m sure her record label is very happy with her willingness to comply. But she lost her spark, her fire. She can no longer truthfully be called an “artist”.

    this song is essentially Rachel Black’s “Friday” meets early stage Avril Lavigne. I honestly thought after her Grammy flopformance that she’d had her undeserving 15 minutes of fame… I just don’t understand it! I can appreciate catchy bubble-gum, silly boy-bashing songs, etc. … but they have their place on the charts, usually bubbling around #15 on a good day (eg Demi’s “Give Your Heart a Break,” in which she actually… sings). I understand the Taylor appeal – she’s BEAUTIFUL and abundantly articulate… but how some listeners defend her as a vocalist or an artist is mind-boggling… and her music continues to rack in such sales… gggaaaaaaaaaaah! Bright side – maybe now she will finally stop being considered a country artist / up for country awards / invited to country award shows / Miranda-Carrie duo can slam their guitars on her head…

    Will go back to listening to K Clark’s amaze performance of… everything ever written.

    Christina is more talented? Last time I checked Christina never wrote an entire album by herself with no co-writes. In fact, does she have any songs with just her as the sole lyricist? Taylor can also play an instrument, so she can compose songs from scratch.

    And you obviously haven’t heard Taylor’s albums properly if you think this about her. As a fan of both Christina and Taylor, I think they both have their own styles of music and songs that are equally as good just in different ways. Both are very talented too. Taylor is a better musician/songwriter, and Christina is a better vocalist and performer.

    I’m gonna tell the truth…I had zero fucks given for Taylor Swift. For me she was just an overrated country singer…she was so not on my radar. And until yesterday I would have never ever bought a single from her. But this one dropped and I’ve been listening to her ever since non stop, on a loop. She must have done something right…I don’t know if it’s just refreshing to hear something different than just electro bullshit or if it’s just Max Martin that as usual comes correct with the production but I love this song. End of story.

    I’m not a fan of country music, and thus never liked much of Taylor’s music, but I’ve always understood the appeal and found her interesting and talented. I’m really glad that this song is not country because I really enjoy it and it’s great to finally have a song I can get behind and support her!
