Taylor Swift releases “Mean” as new single.

Taylor Swift has released “Mean” as the third official single from her triple-Platinum album Speak Now. The song is easily the most country sounding track from the album, and lyrically contains an anti-bullying sentiment that fits in well with the inspirational, self-empowerment pop anthems flooding radio today.

“Mean” cracked the Hot 100 last October when it debuted at No.11 with 163,000 sold after being released as a promo single for Speak Now. Its now been officially sent to country radio, and will serve as the official follow-up to the ballad “Back to December”, which is still making waves after reaching a new peak of No.3 on the Billboard Country Charts just last week.

Speak Now album has already sold over three million copies in the United States, and over four million worldwide — an astonishing feat for a record only just moving onto its third official single. With a handful of future hits waiting to be unleashed (“Sparks Fly”, “Speak Now”), and a current world tour that’s selling out stadiums across Asia, Europe, and America, the success of Speak Now is far from over yet.

YAYY! This is one of the best songs on the cd! =)

Next I hope she releases Sparks Fly, and then Enchanted.

  • Pez

Really? Not haunted, better than revenge or enchanted? Not cool.
[gets proph fix] oh yeah, that’s the stuff.

    Haha.

I love Enchanted, but besides that Mean is one of my fave tracks off the album. I’m glad she doing another country single.

WHY DOES ALL HER SONGS SOUND THE SAME + SHE DATES FAMOUS GUYS SO SHE CAN WRITE BOUT THEM SO HER SALES CAN GO UP LOL I LOVE LOVE STORY BUT I DNT THNK SHE COULD EVER TOP IT

  • AMusicFan

The song is good, I’m glad she released a more-country leaning song by using the banjo.

By the way, I was wondering…since Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift are huge in country pop…what is making Taylor Swift have so much significant Top 40 radio AIRPLAY while Carrie Underwood doesn’t? Was it because Taylor Swift was appealing to the tween/teen audience more and was able to carry it through to Top 40? I’m just wondering since the have nearly the same success in the country sales genre.

sounds great, and loving the coverart!

‘Sparks Fly’ as a single is inevitable. Her biggest songs have always been the ones with the equally big choruses.

still don’t get why she is that successful…

to me she has not even star appeal…and her songs aren’t that great either, but maybe that’s because i’m from europe and am not that into country

but i liked love story – there has been a pop remix, that was nice

I think Mean is a great choice, but a little cheesy and contrived somewhat, but still a nice song I suppose. I want Sparks Fly to be released, it HAS TO BE. Enchanted is pretty good, but after Back to December it wouldn’t be a good choice since it is also a ballad.

I can’t make it through this CD, listening to a 5-6 minute song from her would probably send me over the edge.

I have listened to some of the other tracks though and Better Than Revenge would’ve made a better choice.

“Mean” is one of the worse songs on the album. She should release “Last Kiss” as her third single! But it’s fine! She’ll do what she did with “Fearless.” Have a bajillion singles, then re-release the album.

Taylor is over 7 million WW sales off of only two singles. Good for her! She’s one of the few artists who can still records. I expect her to go diamond by the end of this album era. Love or hate her, she is DOMINATING all your faves.

@AMusicFan because Taylor pop-remixes her songs for pop radio. Carrie refuses to because she wants to stay true to the genre. She could have been what Taylor Swift is if she remixed her songs but she didn’t, because she is a country artist and always will be.

She should have released Enchanted or Dear John (where she could have had a John Mayer look-a-like in the vid–kind of like her own little “Cry Me A River”)

  • Shady1

On a side note I stopped using the word “mean” when I was like 12 lol

Sleazy- how do they sound the same? This sounds like an uninformed (idiotic) opinion. This record has pop, pop-country, pop-rock, bluegrass etc. elements.
One of the most diverse albums pop act has put out in a long time.
