Taylor Swift performs emotional Kanye West forgiveness song.

When news leaked yesterday that country-pop princess Taylor Swift would be performing a special song about Kanye West at today’s VMAs, I immediately dismissed it as a tacky ploy by MTV to get publicity for their Britney-less show. As it turn out, I was completely wrong, because about two hours ago, Taylor stepped out on stage with her guitar and proceeded to launch into an acoustic ballad about last year’s infamous incident.
Just to make sure that we were all aware that the song was in fact about West, MTV made sure to post a little replay of the incident prior to the performance. The camera then fixed on Taylor, looking solemn and almost regal, perched behind her guitar and illuminated by a shadowy stage set-up, opening the song with, “I guess you really did it this time…”.
Dramatic!
“Wasn’t it easier in your lunch box days? Always a bigger bed to crawl into. Wasn’t it beautiful when you believed in everything, and everybody believed in you? It’s alright, just wait and see, your string of lights are still bright to me. Who you are is now where you’ve been, you’re still an innocent.”
While Taylor’s vocals were nothing to write home about, the song itself was emotional, touching, and felt 100% genuine. It was also laced with pity from Swift’s end, like she was staring over at the rapper clinging onto Amber Rose and talking about his latest “portrait” music video, and just gently shaking her head. The only issue is, did Kanye even deserve such a grand gesture? It was only a few weeks ago that he was boasting about his return to the top with Beyonce on “See Me Now”, proving that the VMAs incident had done absolutely nothing to dent his unwavering confidence and out of control ego.
At the end of the day, Taylor decided to dust herself off and become the bigger man. She’s sweeping her side of the street, so to speak, and offering an olive branch to a foe who probably doesn’t really deserve it. Taylor Swift truly is America’s Sweetheart.
