Oh God, the Sugababes are back.

Posted in News on August 16th, 2010 by The Prophet

Those three broads pretending to be the Sugababes are back, and unfortunately, they’re going to release a brand new album next year.

“We done a few weeks, a few weeks ago, and then we head back in solidly after the festivals to work on the new album, and that should be ready next year.”

“We don’t know yet,” when asked what the specific sound they went for would be. “We’re still sort of learning each others tastes and things that we want to talk about. So in that sense it’s still pretty raw, but the good thing that we’ve always been saying is that it’s always about vocals, so we’re going to be making sure that it’s song that showcase that we can sing”.

Yes, “it’s always about the vocals”, says the group who delivered us the auto-tuned classic Sweet 7. And I’m sure that a band that aren’t even allowed to choose what they wear or how they style their hair will be allowed to dictate the direction of their next album.

Moving on now… When Heidi mentioned above how the girls had “done a few weeks”, she was most probably referring to their recent recording sessions with producer Boxsta, who was minimally involved in their albums ‘Change’, ‘Three’ and ‘Angels with Dirty Faces‘.

You can watch some footage of the Babe’s babbling about their next album, below. Amelle is noticeably missing from the equation. Supposedly, she had food poisoning, but they probably just had another row and she high tailed it out of the place like she did last time.

The Sugababes are still trying. Begin recording next album.

Posted in News on June 25th, 2010 by The Prophet

Despite firing the only original member left in the group, having their album ‘Sweet 7′ fall out the Top Forty after only one week and then being dropped by US label Roc Nation, the tragic trio that make up the Sugababes 4.0 are still trying to make their latest line-up work, hitting the studio this week to start recording their next masterpiece.

The girls have already clocked in studio time with producer Boxsta, who was minimally-involved with the band’s previous albums ‘Change’, ‘Three’ and ‘Angels with Dirty Faces‘.

“We’re only three days into recording our new album, so it’s early days,” said member Heidi Range. “We’re not sure about any collaboration yet and we don’t even know when it’s going to be released.” [source]

Amelle Berrebah threw in her 2 cents as well: “We’re keeping to our Sugababes sound but we’re also hoping to try new things too.”. [source]

Or we could all just listen to some good music instead by downloading one of Siobhan Donaghy’s albums.

Sugababes fall out the top 40, confirm split with Roc Nation and promise new music!

Posted in News on March 29th, 2010 by The Prophet

You’ve probably heard by now that the Sugababes have supposedly been dropped by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation company after they kicked Keisha Buchanan out the group and then their album Sweet 7 crashed and burned on the charts, but now the girls have actually confirmed the reports themselves, spinning the story in the process to cushion the blow.

“We just wanted to let our fans know that we had a great time working with Roc Nation to record the album Sweet 7 and massive thanks to those of you who have already bought it.

However, contrary to some tabloid mis-reporting, we have never been “signed” to Roc Nation for a scheduled album release in America.

We continue to be signed to Universal Island and are looking forward to some big performance plans across the Summer and also bringing you some new music very soon.”

Lotsa love Heidi, Amelle & Jade xxx {source}

Funny how in all the official media interviews they’ve done prior to being ‘dropped’ it was mentioned that they had signed with Roc Nation and they never bothered to correct it. The girls also mentioned how they couldn’t wait to meet Jay-Z and were planning on cracking the States later this year.

Hmm.

To add insult to injury, the girls new album Sweet 7 has dropped out of the UK top 40 in only it’s second week of release. Could the girls promise of “new music soon” mean that they are planning a new album? Judging by the sales of Sweet 7 I don’t think that they have much of a choice.

Sweet 7 turns sour – Sugababes bomb on the charts

Posted in News on March 21st, 2010 by The Prophet

Christmas has come early for Keisha Buchanan this year, who is bound to be overjoyed with today’s news that the Sugababes new album Sweet 7 has tanked in the UK albums charts at a dismal #14, making it the bands worst debut in a decade.

The all new ‘Sugababes’ aren’t just flopping in the UK either, with Sweet 7 debuting at #35 in Ireland, which is again their worst debut in a decade over there.

That’s OK though, because at least the girls have some successful singles. Oh wait, they don’t, because their electro-pop jam “Wear My Kiss” has just plummeted down to #24 on the singles chart after only three weeks of release.

This is now the second Sugababes album in a row to flop after the disastrous Catfights & Spotlights barely scraped into the top 10 back in 2008.

Looking at the bands current lack of success it’s almost hard to believe that they were once named as the most success all-female act of the 21st century in the UK by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Oh well!

Anyways if you’re one of the few fans of the Sugababes 4.0 you can check out a new performance of the trio performing “Wear My Kiss”. It comes with an interview in which Amelle says that people will like the album and line-up if they like “live music”, because they are “singers and songwriters”, obviously forgetting the fact that they didn’t write any of the songs on Sweet 7 and that a lot of the tracks are heavily auto-tuned.

Sugababes eye US success and Jade talks about her X-rated makeover

Posted in News on March 16th, 2010 by The Prophet

According to DigitalSpy the Sugababes latest album Sweet 7 could fail to crack the top 10 of the UK charts next week, making it their first album in a decade to do so, but that hasn’t deterred the girls who have announced that they’ll heads on over to the States later this year to try and crack the notoriously difficult American market.

“[Jay-Z's company Roc Nation]  A&R’d the album [Sweet 7] for us… We wanted something that was universal, not just something that will suit Europe and not everywhere else. We wanted something that could crossover, so fingers crossed that it will.

“We’re going back to Europe for promo, then India in April and around Asia, and then hopefully the US as Heidi said, so we have a really great year ahead of us.”

This actually won’t be the first time that the Sugababes have tried to crack the US, with old line-up releasing a special US edition of their album Three in America back in 2004, as well as their single “Hole In The Head” which peaked at #96 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard club chart.

Whilst the new Sugababes are planning their year ahead, new girl Jade Ewen is still settling into the group, and has spoken out about what it was like to have the Babes management sex up her image.

I wasn’t overly keen to begin with but I’m used to it now. I needed to get away from that Eurovision look, which wasn’t me anyway, but you can’t sing an Andrew Lloyd Webber ballad in a miniskirt. I’ve always been really skinny and no one’s ever said I’m sexy, so to be told: ‘We’re going to make you sexy and get your legs out,’ was an adjustment.

Ousted member Keisha Buchanan spoke out about the Sugababes controlling management after she was booted from the band, admitting that she wasn’t even allowed to choose what her hair and make-up looked like whilst part of the group.

Anyways, do you think Sugababes 4.0 have a chance at cracking the US? If mindless, auto-tuned club tracks like Taio Cruz’s “Break Your Heart” and Jay Seans “Down” can go #1 in the States then Sweet 7 will probably be multi-platinum by the end of the year!

Sugababes perform “Wear My Kiss” and promise to split if another member leaves the group

Posted in Performances on March 13th, 2010 by The Prophet

Sugababes 4.0 delivered the one of the best performances that they’ve done since new girl Jade Ewen joined the band when they performed their latest single “Wear My Kiss” on a Eurovision special this week.

The song could do with an added boost on the charts after just nosedived to #14 in it’s second week of release.

The girls have also promised that they’ll end the Sugababes if another member decides to leave, using the ominous last words from Michael Jackson – “this is it”.

“We’ve said if something happened again we wouldn’t carry on the band with someone else – this is it,” Heidi told Company Magazine.

Damn! Now that I’ve accepted that my beloved band has become a bRand I was looking forward to seeing many more line-up taking place in the near future. I think Heidi should get the boot first, followed by boring Jade, and then they can be replaced with Jamie Lynn Spears and like, one of Ashanti’s relatives. Amelle can stay… for now.

Sugababes 4.0 confident that they won’t have to change their name

Posted in News on March 7th, 2010 by The Prophet

The Sugababes 4.0 have spoken out publicly for the first time over reports that Mutya Buena, with the help of the other two founding Sugababes Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy, have applied to trademark the name “Sugababes”, which could force the new girls to change the name of their band.

“Our record company owns the name Sugababes…” says member Heidi Range. “So there’s no conversations about who owns the name.”

A spokesperson for the band said: “The right to use the name Sugababes in connection with all recorded music continues to be under the control of Island Records. Contrary to some recent misleading reports regarding an attempted trademark application from last year, it’s business as usual for Heidi, Amelle and Jade.”

It was actually London Records and the founding members that originally came up with the name “Sugababes”, but Island records may own it now even though reports in the media are claiming that the name has never even been trademarked.

Are Heidi and her label correct, or are they just lying through their deceitful little teeth to avoid any bad press whilst their evil hearts pump a sticky black goo through their veins and devil horns sprout from their heads?

Original Sugababes reunite to launch legal assault on the new girls!

Posted in News on March 3rd, 2010 by The Prophet

The other day I posted that ousted Sugababes member Keisha Buchanan was rumored to be launching legal action against the new line-up (Sugababes 4.0) to get them to change their name. Well now Holy Moly are reporting (with the legal documents to prove it) that three of the original members have teamed up together to apply to the European Trademarks Authority to seek ownerwhip of the bands name “Sugababes”.

If their bid is successful, which Holy Moly are saying is likely, the girls will be able to use the name to record, advertise and much more.

Shockingly the name “Sugababes” has never even been trademarked (Oops!), which led to member Mutya Buena initially launching the application in November 2009, two months after Keisha was booted from the band against her will. Yesterday the application was resubmitted to now include Keisha and the third founding member Siobhan Donaghy.

Unfortunately the current line-up only have until May 8th to launch an official opposition, which could end up causing ALL kinds of trouble for their new album Sweet 7 which is being released this week. {Source HolyMoly & ThatGrapeJuice]

The ‘Sugababes’ name first originated when Mutya and Keisha were about 14-years-old and with the help of their manager they christened themselves “The Sugarbabies” . The name was later tweaked by their former record label London Records to become ‘Sugababes’, and the girls kept the name when they introduced new member Heidi Range to the group and signed a new record deal with Island Records, who are now home to the current line-up.

I’ve got my fingers crossed that the original girls can take back what is rightly theirs, and who knows, maybe they’ll even reunite for some new music!  Check out the girls very first single “Overload” which was released back in 2000 and was nominated for a Brit Award.

Sugababes eye “Crashed and Burned” for fourth single

Posted in News on March 2nd, 2010 by The Prophet

Somehow the Sugababes latest single “Wear My Kiss” didn’t totally bomb on the charts and actually managed to reach the top ten in the UK last week, so their record label have gone ahead and given the girls the green light to drop single number four “Crashed and Burned” which will be released in mid-May.

The song was a last minute addition to the Babes messy Sweet 7 album, being thrown on at the eleventh hour so that new member Jade Ewen could pretend that she recorded a whole new track for the album instead of just re-recording Keisha’s vocals over the leaked Sweet 7 sampler that got out last year.

Despite sounding like a Z-grade Ryan Tedder “Battlefield” knock-off, “Crashed and Burned” actually isn’t all that bad and will probably even reach the top 10 or 20 in the UK if the girls continue to flog their newly sexed up image, so expect a topless glamor shoot in Zoo Weekly around the time that the single hits stores.

Do you think the girls label made the right decision, or should they have gone with something else?

SUGABABES MEGA POST! The babes slam Keisha, get sued, perform in Poland and much more!

Posted in Uncategorized on March 1st, 2010 by The Prophet

The Cheeky Girls Sugababes have been very busy lately causing havoc, performing around the world, fending off lawsuits and much more so I thought I’d cram it all into one post so everyone can be up to date with what the tawdry trio are up to.

First off the Babes are finally dishing the dirt on Keisha Buchanan’s departure from the group, painting a very poor picture of the last original Sugababe in the process.

Amelle admits: “Bullying is a strong word. It sounds bad. But no one likes to be treated horribly. I was being singled out every day and I didn’t like the way I was being treated. I dreaded going in to work even though I had worked so hard to get here.

“I didn’t have a voice, Heidi didn’t have a voice and the people who worked around her didn’t have a voice. Even people who worked with us threatened to quit because they couldn’t take it. I took a lot of s*** from her as did Heidi and the rest of the team.

“Morally, you can only allow yourself to be treated a certain way for so long. It got to a point where we couldn’t do it anymore. I still respect Keisha. I would never speak badly about her or go into detail but we tried for a long time to make things work and it just got worse and worse.

“I used to be bubbly and outgoing but I became quiet. People told me I would never speak in interviews. I was paranoid that I would get the eye. I would let her carry on and live my life quietly.” {source}

You read the full interview over at the Daily Mail by clicking here, which goes into more detail about their beef with Keisha and how Jade came into the group, but the overall gist of it basically imply’s that Keisha was a big bossy boots who thought she ran the group. Is that really surprising though?

The juicy interview comes only a few days after the Sunday Mirror reported that Keisha is seeking legal action against the group to get them to either change their name or to pay her juicy one-off sum of cash.

I find the lawsuit a little hard to believe since Keisha is still signed to the same label as the Sugababes, Island Records, where she is working on her own album after being offered a solo deal after getting the boot from the band, but I hope it’s true just for the fact that I don’t think they should be allowed to use the name. It’s nothing personal.

The girls also just had their third Sweet 7 single “Wear My Kiss” debut on the official UK charts at #7, which isn’t too shabby at all but still isn’t the top five that they recently said that they were aiming for.

Last and definitely least is a new performance by the trio in Poland where they sung “About a Girl”. Check it below.

Sugababes: “Sweet 7 is the best album we’ve ever done. It’s more grown up”.

Posted in Random on February 22nd, 2010 by The Prophet

Sugababes 4.0. have been flat out this week promoting their new single “Wear My Kiss” and the impending release of their first album together Sour 7, which according to member Heidi is the best and most mature album that the Babes have ever recorded in their ten year career.

“We’ve grown up. The things that we talk about in the lyrics are a bit more grown up. Musically with every album we’ve ever done we’ve wanted to go a step up and try and improve with each album and I think it definitely is the best album we’ve done, it’s that step up. A lot of doors were opened for us after signing with Jay-Z, [we got] to work with all the top producers in America”. {source}

Some of the mature lyrical content on Sweet 7 includes the lead single ‘Get Sexy’ which goes “Cause I’m too sexy in this club, too sexy in this club, so sexy it hurts.”.

The girls also spoke about what they think will be the fourth single off the album, mentioning that “Crash & Burn”, “Little Miss Perfect”, “No More You” and “Thank You for the Heartbreak” are all on the shortlist, but they ruled out fan favorite “She’s a Mess” insisting that it definitely won’t be the fourth single.

Do you agree with the Babes saying that Sour 7 is their best album, and what do you want as the next single?

Sugababes 4.0 perform “Wear My Kiss”

Posted in Performances on February 21st, 2010 by The Prophet

Some unknown random girl group were performing on the BBC’s Let’s Dance for Sports Relief this week, singing a song that I’m assuming is titled “Wear My Kiss” due the repetition of those three words during the chorus.

The girls in this group look strangely familiar, yet I can’t seem to figure out exactly who they are. I have a feeling they have a new album coming out soon though… Sour 7 or something… Let me consult my crystal ball for a moment to see if I can get to the bottom of this mystery.

*Looks into crystal ball*

Yes… I see a charming little meadow filled with people… Oh they all look so happy laughing and playing next to a beautiful rocky stream! Wonderful music surrounds them and the sun is shining down. Wait, what’s this I see now? Three strange girls are approaching, the same girls in the video above. Oh what nasty horrid creatures! Suddenly the sky is black and thunder is storming down, and all I can hear is this horrible unoriginal electro-pop blaring incessantly. Please crystal ball, stop! I can’t take this any longer!

*hurls crystal ball at the wall*

Phew, that was close. Remind me never to listen to those wretched girls again, whoever they are.
