Things never seem to go right for the talented twin sister twosome that make up Nina Sky, but no matter what the industry throws at them, the girls never seem to give up.
Publicly begging their label to drop them seems to have gotten a few wheels turning somewhere, because this week the duo leaked a new song “You Ain’t Got It”, which is lifted from an upcoming EP ‘The Otherside’, due out this Summer.
The song heavily samples the 1994 Sagat club hit “Funk Dat”, and marks a real return to the true Nina Sky sound after the girls veered off into commercial dance-pop territory for their ill-single “Beautiful People”.
No word yet on whether Nina Sky will release the EP themselves, or if they’ve worked out something with their label Polo Grounds Music. The girls have a very unique sound that can be hard to market, but I believe that there’s an audience out there for them. I hope they find the right label — indie or a major — to help them find their niche.

Identical twin pop duo Nina Sky, a.k.a. “the move ya body girls”, have lashed out at their record label Polo Grounds via Twitter, begging to be released from their record contract so they can finally move ahead with their careers and release their highly-delayed sophomore album Startin’ Over, which has now been in the works since 2005.
Starting a new campaign today..”Nina Sky Doesn’t Play Polo.”
For MONTHS we’ve had a complete album, ready for release. Y’ALL wanna know what’s REALLY goin on?
Nothing + that’s the problem. We released 2 videos and singles without support from our label. All good.. Stayed positive… After months of no movement we asked to be released + still nothing. No acknowledment from the President of our label Bryan Leach..
Bottom Line, we want to be released. If you’re really down with our movement holler @ Bryan Leach.

The dynamic duo first started working on their sophomore album, originally titled The Musical, in 2005. They released two stellar singles from the project “Curtain Call” with Rick Ross and the Salaam Remi produced “On Some Bullshit”, which both failed on the charts and received no promotion. They then re-vamped the album and retitled it Startin’ Over, adopting a more radio-friendly pop sound in the process and releasing a third single “Beautiful People”, which inevitably tanked like all their previous efforts.
Since they’ve had no solo success the girls have kept their names in the spotlight with a few mixtapes, live shows, blog coverage thanks to their stylish choices in fashion, and several feature records with the likes of Major Lazer and N.O.R.E.
I’m a hardcore Nina Sky fan from way back and I’m glad that they’ve set the record straight, but a release from their label could result in them having to re-record a new album all over again, so it’ll probably be a while before we get any new music from the girls. I hope they go back to their eclectic R&B sound because The Musical album sampler that leaked a while back was flawless, but I really lost interest in the pair when they started doing mainstream pop on Startin’ Over.
Check out the sampler from their original sophomore album The Musical below.

More than 6 months after the song premiered one of my faves Nina Sky have finally released a music video for their new single “Beautiful People”.
The uptempo song is the fifth first single from the girls sophomore album Starting Today (Formally titled ‘The Musical’) which still has no release date.
The duo are certainly feeling the thing of the recession with the clip, but what do you expect from a group who haven’t had a hit since 2004?
It’s good to see them out on the grind and getting their music out there, but out of all their songs “Beautiful People” is the one that I hate because I feel like they dropped their trademark sound to do something more pop-dance based and commercial to try and get a hit (which still hasn’t worked).
I love Nina Sky but I’ll take their previous singles “Curtain Call” and “On Some Bullshit” over this song any day.

Here’s the new video from Major Lazer (Diplo & Switch) which features Ricky Blaze and my girls Nina Sky. “Keep It Goin’ Louder” is from the album Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do. Check it out.
This is such an awesome video and I’m relieved to finally see Nina Sky doing something. The cartoon effects are crazy, it reminds me of a Zombified version of He-Man. People seem to think that you need millions of dollars to make a hot video, but all you really need is some originality and creativity. My friends brother’s band made THIS for free, it’s not that hard!
