Nelly Furtado performs brand new songs from upcoming “Lifestyle” album.

Posted in Performances on August 31st, 2010 by The Prophet

Nelly Furtado headlined the Orange Warsaw Festival in Poland over the weekend, where she played a selection of her biggest hits to a huge, sold-out crowd. Amidst performing her chart toppers, Nelly also played “Girlfriend In This City” and the Salaam Remi-produced “Free”, both of which are slated to appear on her upcoming fourth English album, Lifestyle.

Speaking of her next album, it looks like it could be even longer than expected until it arrives in stores, since  Nelly didn’t seem too enthusiastic about the whole thing while discussing her current and upcoming projects.

“I’m taking my time, enjoying each thing, each project. I don’t really put a lot of pressure on myself,” she said from the press room of the Orange Festival this weekend. “Just continuing to promote my Spanish album, working on other material. And working on my label called Nelstar Music, out of Toronto. Yeah, working on that project, working with other artists, producing, writing, trying to build the label a little bit.” {source}

Take your sweet time, why don’t you. It’s not like you have millions of fans shaking, crying and salivating at the very thought of you returning with another pop classic!

Nelly Furtado plays dress up in “Bajo Otra Luz” music video.

Posted in Music Videos on July 2nd, 2010 by The Prophet

Nelly Furtado’s English album ‘Lifestyle‘ remains somewhat of a mystery for now, but the singer is still promoting her Spanish language album ‘Mi Plan‘, this week releasing the music video for the album’s third single “Bajo Otra Luz”.

For the video, Nelly is playing dress-up and strutting down the street in array of different costumes. And, well, yeah, that sums it all up.

A lot of people have overlooked ‘Mi Plan‘, but the album has actually done incredible well. It’s already got the Latin Platinum certification in the US, ans has gone either Gold or Platinum in many other countries.

As for her English album ‘Lifestyle‘, it’s currently due sometime in the Fall and will feature contributions from Passion Pit, The Neptunes, Tiesto, Salaam Remi, Ryan Tedder and more.

Nelly Furtado working with The Neptunes and Passion Pit for ‘Lifestyle’ album – due this Fall!

Posted in News on June 17th, 2010 by The Prophet

Nelly Furtado has confirmed that she’s recruited The Neptunes to produce tracks for her next English record ‘Lifestyle’, who, as you know, recently enlisted Nelly to feature on the new N*E*R*D record “Hot ‘n’ Fun”.

Besides The Neptunes, Nelly has teamed up with the lead singer of awesome electro band Passion Pit, to record what she describes as “a pretty ballad”.

Nelly has also taken some interesting musical inspiration for Lifestyle, revealing to Flare magazine that she’s penned a new song called “The Edge” that was inspired by the Tiger Woods cheating scandal.

In addition to the producers already mentioned, Nelly has also recorded several songs with dance DJ Tiesto, as well as Ryan Tedder and Salaam Remi. She’s even clocked in more than twenty tracks with Timbaland, but it’s currently unclear whether he’ll make the final cut of her album, after she announced back in March that Timbo probably wouldn’t appear on Lifestyle.

Oh, and remember those two unfinished songs that leaked from Nelly – “Free” and “Girlfriend in this City”? Well Nelly spoke about them recently, implying that they’ll probably end up appearing on the new album.

Lifestyle is currently due this Fall, meaning that it’s on track for a fourth quarter release. [Source]

We can now throw Nelly Furtado into the mix of major female popstars dropping albums at the end of this year, which currently already includes Britney Spears, Rihanna, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry and possibly Taylor Swift.

Nelly Furtado is “Free” with Salaam Remi on new Lifestyle leak.

Posted in New Music on May 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

While Nelly Furtado is busy still promoting her Spanish album Mi Plan, a new unfinished demo from her next English record Lifestyle has leaked online titled “Free”.

Produced by Salaam Remi (Amy Winehouse, Livvi Franc), “Free” has Nelly’s lyrical stamp all over it but musically it’s a departure for the singer with it’s heavy splashes of upbeat dance-pop, showing that Nelly isn’t planning to churn out a blatant rehash of Loose for her next album.

Nelly Furtado’s worn a lot of musical hats during her career (as Xtina would say). The Canadian star started off doing folk-pop and earthy R&B on her debut Whoa Nelly, followed by the acoustics and world music influences of Folklore to the transformation into urban top forty Queen on Loose, and now it looks like Nelly will take influences from all her previous work to reinvent herself on Lifestyle.

Currently Lifestyle has no release date, but when it drops expect contributions from Ryan Tedder and trance DJ Tiesto.

Nelly Furtado pushes back “Lifestyle” album.

Posted in News on April 25th, 2010 by The Prophet

Nelly Furtado’s fourth album Lifestyle was originally due out May 25th, but earlier this month the singer-songwriter announced via Twitter that the album has now been pushed back, with no new date provided.

“I am fresh off my latin tour & full of new inspiration. Lifestyle is not coming out this summer anymore. Stay tuned 4 new leg of MI PLAN. Xo”

Nelly’s Mi Plan tour was reasonably short, only consisting of nine shows and wrapping up late last month, so there’s definitely room for the Maneater to do some more concerts.

So far the announced producers on Lifestyle are Tiesto, Ryan Tedder and Salaam Remi, but maybe with the latest pushback Nelly has decided to work Timbaland again, someone who she previously said would not feature on the album.

We’ll have to wait and see.

N*E*R*D premiere viral video for new single ‘Hot & Fun’ feat Nelly Furtado.

Posted in New Music on April 24th, 2010 by The Prophet

You may have already heard the snippet of N*E*R*D‘s new Nelly Furtado assisted single “Hot & Fun” when it leaked online this week, but now the song is available in full through a new viral video that the band premiered earlier today.

I know that Pharrell and co have been going on about revamping their sound for album number four (titled ‘Nothing’), but “Hot & Fun” isn’t a whole lot different to a lot of the material that we’ve heard from N*E*R*D and the Neptunes in the past, so if you’re a fan of the boys then you’re bound to like this.

Plus, it’s rumored that the band have enlisted Daft Punk, Diplo and Crookers to remix the single, so if you don’t like the radio edit then you’re bound to like at least one of the remixes.

Right now Chad & Pharrell have produced the entirety of the new album, but they’re still in the process of deciding whether or not they’ll include any of the outside producers they worked with on the final tracklist.

You also won’t see Rhea on the album, since member Shay confirmed that the trio decided to stick with their original formula instead of adding new members to the band.

Nothing is currently due out on June 15th. {Via Yk2}

Nelly Furtado serves up first Lifestyle leak with “Girlfriend in this City”

Posted in New Music on March 28th, 2010 by The Prophet

Yesterday an unmastered demo of a new Nelly Furtado song surfaced online. Titled “Girlfriend in this City”, the track is believed to be from the recording sessions of her upcoming album Lifestyle.

Even in its unfinished form you can hear that “Girlfriend in this City” is a little more organic like Nelly’s first two albums, but still doesn’t quite fit into the acoustic based Folklore or the folky R&B of her debut Whoa Nelly, and it definitely doesn’t have the sleek urban-pop sheen of her commercial smash Loose.

I love the song and it’s a little pop, so I get the feeling that Lifestyle will sound like a melding pot of all her previous albums, with a few new things thrown in for good measure.

The new album is currently due out in May, and will feature production from Ryan Tedder, Tiesto, and Salaam Remi.

Nelly Furtado performs mini-concert on Big Brother Brazil

Posted in Performances on March 25th, 2010 by The Prophet

Photobucket

Nelly Furtado is in Brazil at the moment promoting her album Mi Plan, and part of her promo duties included a mini-concert on last nights episode of Big Brother Brazil.

During the set Nelly played acoustic versions all biggest hits, such as “Maneater”, “I’m Like a Bird”, “Try”, “Say It Right” and “Turn off the Light”.

Who goes on a show to promote their new album, then plays songs from every other album they’ve ever released besides the one that they were originally there for?

*stares suspiciously at Nelly*

Anyways look out for her new album Lifestyle soon, which will feature production from Timbaland Ryan Tedder, Salaam Remi, and Tiesto.

Nelly Furtado: “Timbaland will not be on my new album!”

Posted in News on March 19th, 2010 by The Prophet

Nelly Furtado may have already hit the studio with Timbaland to record her upcoming fourth album Lifestyle, but in a brand new Brazilian interview with the singer has announced Timbo’s been pushed to the side won’t be appearing on her new album.

“We’ve been friends for over ten years, we have that type of cosmic connection. I don’t have him on my new album, but we’ll surely work together again.”

Besides revealing that she’d given Timbo the boot, Nelly also found time to talk about the direction of her new album.

“I can say is that its a combination of my other four albums. It has hip-hop, reggae, love songs. The funny thing is, after recording and making tours in spanish, my vocals are stronger.”

Not having Timbaland on her new album is surprising since the hitmaker, along with Danja, helped Nelly return to the top of the charts by selling 10 million copies of her uber-successful third album Loose, which included two US No. 1 singles “Promiscuous” and “Say It Right”.

If you look back at all of Nelly’s album though you’d see that she’s changed and evolved her sound with each one, so jumping right back in with Timbaland could stunt her musical growth so I’m relieved that we’re going to hear something fresh and new.

Nelly’s Lifestyle is currently due out on May 25, and will feature production from Ryan Tedder, Salaam Remi and DJ Tiesto.

Nelly Furtado confirms title of upcoming English album

Posted in News on February 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

After weeks of online speculation Nelly Furtado has finally officially confirmed that the title of her upcoming English album will be Lifestyle.

The album is currently due for release on May 25th, and confirmed producers for the project include Salaam Remi, Ryan Tedder, and Timbaland.

Not much is known about the sound of the album yet, but Nelly has said that it may be a little different to her multi-Platinum smash Loose, and that it will be pop with a fun “light energy” similar to her debut Whoa Nelly.

I can’t wait!

MUSIC VIDEO: Tiesto Featuring Nelly Furtado… Minus Nelly Furtado

Posted in Music Videos on January 19th, 2010 by The Prophet

The wonderful Nelly Furtado is featured on the latest single from trance artist Tiesto “Who Wants to Be Alone”, which is taken from the Dutch DJ’s fourth album Kaleidoscope.

The only problem is that Nelly is M.I.A. for the official music video which hit the web today. It’s really a shame to because the song is bangin’, but I guess Nelly is busy with her other projects.

The 31-year-old is currently working on her official Mi Plan tour, as well as recording her next English album with Ryan Tedder and Timbaland which is currently due for release on May 25th.

Nelly Furtado announces release date for new “fun pop” English album!

Posted in News on December 15th, 2009 by The Prophet

Nelly Furtado has announced that the official release date of her fourth English album will be May 25th, 2010.

She also opened up a little about the vibe of the record, comparing it to her debut critically-acclaimed ‘Whoa, Nelly!’.

“I think just generally it’s still going to be pop but I want it to have a more light energy. Sort of like my first album, but not sonically, more in a spiritual sense… more like my first album.

“I don’t know if it’s going to be the same sound [as Loose] but I have worked a little bit with Timbaland who produced that album so it might have some of the same fun and energy, but not like exactly the same.”

Oh thank God. It sounds to me like Nelly isn’t going to let Timbaland recycle those same old beats, and she’ll be pushing him creatively to try new things and create some magic like on Loose.

I think that Whoa Nelly scrapes in as her best album though, so to know that she’s combining the vibe of that album with Loose whilst still trying new things has me pretty confident about her next record.

Also currently attached to the album are Ryan Tedder and Salaam Remi. Who else would you like to see Nelly work with? I think if she’s using Timbo then she definitely needs Danja to. Are you excited for the new English album? I know I am! *hyperventilates and dies*
