Miley Cyrus shoots video for new European single “Who Owns My Heart”.

Posted in News on August 6th, 2010 by The Prophet

Miley Cyrus has already selected “Two More Lonely People” as the second US single from her new album Can’t Be Tamed, E News have confirmed that “Who Owns My Heart” will be her next European single.

The music video will be filmed in Detroit this weekend, and directed by Robert Hales, who shot the awesome “Can’t Be Tamed” clip.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a little disappointed with the single choice. I can think about five other songs that deserve single treatment over “Who Owns My Heart”, and considering that the actual album has been met with poor sales (it’s currently somewhere around 200k in the US) there probably won’t be an opportunity for future singles.

It’s too early to say that the Can’t Be Tamed era is dead, but it definitely hasn’t performed as well as it could’ve. Still, if anything, it’s achieved Miley’s goal of shedding her image good girl image. If things don’t pick up with the future singles, Can’t Be Tamed can at least go down as a transitioning period in Miley’s career, and a building block of things to come.

Miley Cyrus selects “Two More Lonely People” as next single.

Posted in News on July 14th, 2010 by The Prophet

It looks like Miley Cyrus has selected “Two More Lonely People” as the second single from her new album Can’t Be Tamed. The song is currently listed in the ‘Cool New Music’ section of radio website All Access, but doesn’t have a concrete add date as of yet.

The dance-pop sing will follow up Miley’s hit “Can’t Be Tamed”, which peaked in the top 10. The album on the other hand, isn’t doing so well in the States, and has only sold about 160k in total.

“Two More Lonely People” is a great tune with it’s radio-friendly, 80′s sound, but I think there are better songs they could’ve chosen as Miley’s next single. The decision to select “Two More Lonely People” seems like a very safe choice on the labels part, since Miley’s more rebellious image and music doesn’t seem to be catching on with the general public like they probably hoped.

However, the best thing about the Can’t Be Tamed album is that it’s chocked full of potential hits, so we should see a lot of the other standout tracks getting the single treatment at some point.

Take a listen to the new single below.

Kelis defends Miley Cyrus: “Get off her back. I know what she’s going through. Her video is brilliant!”

Posted in News on July 6th, 2010 by The Prophet

The highly-criticized Miley Cyrus has found an unlikely ally in Kelis, who has jumped to the 17-year-old’s defense in a new interview.

Chatting to Yahoo, Kelis warned people to get off Miley’s back when asked about what the “Can’t Be Tamed” singer has been going through lately, rolling out an impressive rant about artists’ verses popstars’ in the process.

“Somebody had said something to me about it, like, “Have you seen her new video?” and I was like, “Yeah, I actually think it’s great”. [they were like] “Yeah, but you know, that’s not who she is,” and I’m like, “Get over yourself!”. At the end of the day, her life is — and I don’t generally talk about other artists… — but people need to get off her back.

“It’s like, you live your life — especially as an artist — if you’re any good, your feelings are on your sleeve. That’s what I really appreciate about artists verses a popstar. A popstar, they always have to be good. I don’t want that responsibility. I’m not always good, sometimes I suck, but that’s OK because I’m human. I’m an artist, I’m expressing what I’m actually going through in my life. If I’m pissed off, if I’m happy, if I’m pregnant and emotional; whatever it is I’m dealing with, ‘screw you‘, because this is my life.

“My art and what I do is how I express what I’m dealing with right now. It doesn’t always have to be a number one hit – who gives a crap? That’s what it is, and I think for her [Miley], in particular, she’s a teenager, her whole life has been on blast because of what she does and she happens to be good at it. I think it’s kind of retarded when people are like, “Oh she’s trying to be this and she’s…”, who gives a crap!  This is what you do, who wasn’t like that at eighteen, nineteen? Cut her some slack. People forget that just because you are in the public eye they think you’re supposed to temper yourself…

“I saw the video [Can't Be Tamed] and I was like “wow”. I knew exactly what she was going through as I watched it. I thought it was a beautiful video, she looks great, I get exactly what she’s saying, she couldn’t have put it more clear; She’s in a cage. I get it, it’s great, I think it’s brilliant, good for her. I’m glad she did that. It’s her right.”

It’s about time someone came out to watch poor Miley’s back!

When it comes to stars like Miley Cyrus, people often let the drama and negativity of the celebrity gossip side of things cloud their judgement, and it turns into a bit of a witch hunt against whoever is the flavor of the moment. As long as the music and visuals are good, nobody is getting hurt and everybody is being honest, then it shouldn’t matter. She hasn’t even done anything bad either, which is what makes the whole thing so silly.

You can check the extensive interview for yourself below. Kelis reveals some really interesting details about recording Flesh Tone as an unsigned artist, the inspiration behind some of the sounds and songs and a lot more.

Eminem’s ‘Recovery’ crushes the competition. Miley Cyrus underwhelms.

Posted in News on June 29th, 2010 by The Prophet

In a not-so-surprising move, Eminem has completely obliterated his competition on this weeks Billboard chart, pushing approximately 753,870 copies of his new album ‘Recovery’.

The number is the largest first-week sales since 2008, when rockers AC/DC took out the top with 784k of their ‘Black Ice’ album.

Who said people weren’t still buying albums?

Eminem also looks like he’s ready to rule the Hot 100 again soon to, after his new single “Love the Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna, shot straight to the top of the iTunes chart after it was released last week. It’s now currently sitting at #2, behind Katy Perry’s “California Gurls”.

In other chart news, Drake is penciled in to sell about 156,451 copies of his ‘Thank Me Later‘ album, easily pushing it to Gold in it’s second week out.

Someone not doing so well though is Miley Cyrus, who will only shift 106,553 copies of her new album ‘Can’t Be Tamed‘, giving it enough for a #3 debut. The number doesn’t seem so bad, but considering that Miley’s last two studio’s album topped the charts with 326k and 371k respectively, it’s a little disappointing.

Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera’sBionic‘ is predicted to sell about 19,307, bringing it’s three week total up to about 170k.

WATCH: Miley Cyrus launches “Can’t Be Tamed” album with MTV concert.

Posted in Performances on June 22nd, 2010 by The Prophet

Noticeably toning down her raunchy look from this week’s Much Music Video Awards, teen star Miley Cyrus rocked the House of Blues in L.A. today for an exclusive MTV concert to launch her new album ‘Can’t Be Tamed‘.

The concert was part of a major promotional move for Miley, featuring the singer performing a set of songs from her just-released Can’t Be Tamed album, which was then broadcast live on MTV.com in almost 160 countries.

Besides some awkward rockstar impersonations, the 17-year-old singer did a surprisingly great job. Miley also shockingly showed that she can actually sing — especially during the closing moments of “My Heart Beats to Love” and “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn”  – both of which, to me, were the standout performances of the show.

Miley may receive her fair share of criticism, but during this concert she came across as professional, talented, and very genuine in her approach to singing and exciting the crowd of kids who had come to see her. She even slipped in a naughty swear word during her “Liberty Walk” performance. Rockstar!

Peep the concert below and let me know what you think.

Miley Cyrus rocks the Much Music Video Awards amidst technical difficulties.

Posted in Performances on June 20th, 2010 by The Prophet

Good girl gone bad, Miley Cyrus, was one of the biggest stars at today’s Music Music Video Awards in Canada. The multi-talented teen did double duties as a presenter and a performer, taking to the stage twice to perform her hits “Party in the USA” and “Can’t Be Tamed”.

Miley also picked up an award on the night, scoring ‘International Video of the Year’ for God knows what.

However, not everything on the night ran completely smoothly; Miley had a bit of drama with some bad cue cards, flubbing her lines several times as she tried to introduce Drake’s performance. Things got even worse when Drake took to the stage, but then refused to start his performance because of technical difficulties, leaving dead air time of about 2 minutes as he paced around the stage, clearly frustrated.

The telecast then cut back to one of the show’s hosts, who had to awkwardly try and fill time by yelling to the crowd, “Hey, what about Justin Bieber! Wasn’t he great? How bout that Miley Cyrus hey! Yeah, give them a round of applause!”. Cue tumbleweed.

Anyway, peep Miley parading around half naked below for her “Party in the USA” performance, followed by a tribal, Britney-esque rendition of “Can’t Be Tamed”.

Miley Cyrus rocks Letterman with “Can’t Be Tamed” performance.

Posted in Performances on June 18th, 2010 by The Prophet

Teen Queen Miley Cyrus was on the Tonight Show with David Letterman earlier today to deliver another performance of her hit single “Can’t Be Tamed”.

Unlike her previous performance, Miley ditched the choreography and instead focused solely on her voice – a move that paid off very well with Miley delivering one of the gutsiest vocal performances we’ve seen from her. Sure, she had the help of backing singers and maybe even a backup track in some spots, but overall she did a great job and continues to surprise her naysayers.

She also sat down with Letterman for an interview, which took a hilarious turn when Miley was asked if she lip-syncs,  responding: “Uhh no. You can YouTube me because half the comments are ‘She sounds like crap!’. Well at least I’m singing live!”.

In other news, Miley has just announced that she’s teamed up with MTV to perform a live web concert at the House of Blues to promote her new album Can’t Be Tamed. The concert will feature Miley performing new songs off the album and is scheduled to be broadcasted live on June 21 — the day her album drops — across MTV’s websites in almost 160 countries.

How’s that for some good promotion?

Miley Cyrus wants more credit as an artist.

Posted in Interviews on June 11th, 2010 by The Prophet

Jailbait Miley Cyrus swung past Ryan Seacrest today to promote her upcoming new album ‘Can’t Be Tamed’.

The Hollywood Records hottie spoke about a bunch of boring gossipy stuff like her boyfriend, hating drugs, family outings and partying. She also managed to fit in a few slivers of music talk to, such as her continued fiery hatred for pop music, which apparently doesn’t include Lady GaGa, who she loves.

What, no Britney? Boo!

She also spoke about her desire to be taken seriously as an artist when she gets older, claiming that she hasn’t been given her due credit due to her age and association with Disney.

“I hope that people really do get to see me as like an artist,” says Miley. “I think as I get older that people will start to realize that there’s a lot of things that I’ve done that I feel like I didn’t get recognized for and a lot of it was because I was younger as it was like “Oh Disney’s doing that”, but at the end of the day Disney isn’t doing my voice, Disney isn’t doing all the actions that I did – I did it. There’s a lot of things that I started doing that I didn’t get credit for.”

Ah, the naivety of youth. Ditch Disney and then we’ll talk.

For her set the Disney brat performed all the hits from her back catalog, as well as three songs from her upcoming new album ‘Can’t Be Tamed’.

The 17-year-old has recently been on a whirlwind worldwide promotional tour in the lead-up to the release of her new album, even performing in several nightclubs to try and up the age bracket of her fanbase.

We’ll see if her efforts pay off when the album drops on June 18.

Miley Cyrus rocks Britain’s Got Talent with “Can’t Be Tamed” performance.

Posted in Performances on June 3rd, 2010 by The Prophet

Miley Cyrus continued her plans for world domination today with another fierce performance of her new single “Can’t Be Tamed”, this time live on Britain’s Got Talent.

Just like her appearance on Dancing with the Stars, this was yet another surprisingly great performance from the Disney brat. Miley looked great, sounded good, had a fantastic energy and stage presence and even knocked out some more choreography.

I keep getting shades of Rihanna when I watch her live, but as I said last time, Miley is a far superior performer as well as a better singer than Rihanna is. Now all she needs is a song as good as “Rude Boy” or “Umbrella” and she’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

Check out Miley in action below.

Miley Cyrus lets loose for wild Rock in Rio performances.

Posted in Performances on May 29th, 2010 by The Prophet

Miley Cyrus was one of the biggest guests at last nights Rock in Rio music festival, where she played songs from her back catalog as well as debuting two brand new tracks from her upcoming album Can’t Be Tamed.

In an effort to show how ‘grown up’ she is now and how much she hates pop music, Miley marched onto the stage in a sexy one-piece with a leather jacket thrown over the top, then preceded to take her best shot at ‘rocking out’ for the thousands of eager concert goers.

She’s not exactly Iggy Pop but she did a decent job for a Disney born-and-bred teen, and hearing her sing “Robot” which sounds a lot like a melodramatic Disney diss was worth the price of admission alone.

Check out the two new songs “Robot” and “My Heart Beats For Love” below. Via MileyCWeb.

Miley Cyrus covers Billboard Magazine. Still hates pop music.

Posted in News, Photoshoots on May 28th, 2010 by The Prophet

Looking mean and holding a giant ‘M’, tween star Miley Cyrus can be seen on the cover of the brand new issue of Billboard magazine.

Billboard features always come with lengthy articles, and in this one Miley can be heard delivering one of her trademark sermons about her dislike for pop music.

“I listen to zero pop music, which is really weird for someone who makes pop music,” Cyrus says, noting that the first concert she ever went to was Poison. (She covers “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” with Bret Michaels doing backing vocals on the album.) “My 13-year-old self would have beaten up my 17-year-old self because she would be like, ‘You’re a sellout!’ But that’s not what it is. It’s not dance music that’s just about, ‘Ooh, I’m in the club and everyone’s looking at me.’ It means something. I’m not just sitting here trying to sell glitz and glamour…because no one lives that life. A lot of [pop] songs are super shallow, but this music isn’t.”

Before you start a Miley lynch mob please keep in mind that she is still only 17-years-old. When I was her age I thought Ashlee Simpson’s ‘Autobiography’ was a lyrical masterpiece, so I’m sure in Miley’s mind the manufactured pop on her Can’t Be Tamed album is really deep and her target market will probably agree.

Besides the album dropping soon, you can look out for some more Miley performances when she hits up the Rock in Rio festival today and then again on June 6, followed by the Much Music Video Awards in Canada on June 20. Her Dancing with the Stars performance was rockin’ so I can’t wait to see how she does with her next few.
