Drake premieres “Miss Me” music video.

Posted in Music Videos on August 19th, 2010 by The Prophet

Drake’s homosexual love affair with Anthony Mandler shows no signs of slowing down, with the Canadian rapper enlisting the director to shoot for him yet again, this time for his latest single “Miss Me” featuring Lil’ Wayne.

As usual, Mandler’s trademark moody lighting is on full display, but he’s also put in the effort to switch things up ever-s0-slightly with some fantastic slow-motion and rewind visual effects. However, many parts of the clip are too similar to Drake’s Mandler-directed video for “Over”, and it’s all getting a little tired now. Despite it’s unoriginality, “Miss Me” is still a job well done for the pair, but next time Drake is going to have to bring something a little fresher to the table.

Chartwise, “Miss Me” is currently #3 on both the R&B and Rap charts, and #49 on the Hot 100 (after originally debuting at #15). To date, Drake’s debut Thank Me Later has sold 970k in the US, and has been certified Platinum.

Lil’ Wayne and Nicki Minaj ‘Knockout’ a cheap music video.

Posted in Music Videos on May 30th, 2010 by The Prophet

Lil’ Wayne may be behind bars but that hasn’t stopped him from pulling a Beyonce and refusing to take time out of the spotlight, today premiering his music video for “Knockout”, the latest single from his rock album Rebirth.

The green screen video features Nicki Minaj and looks cheaper than a House of Dereon dress, but that’s to be expected since Weezy shot this clip back-to-back with about eight other videos.

And besides, who needs a flashy video when the song is this good?

Nivea releases “Love Hurts” video with Lil’ Wayne and leaks new song

Posted in Music Videos on March 3rd, 2010 by The Prophet

One of my favorite R&B underdogs Nivea has dropped a viral video for her new new buzz single “Love Hurts”, and she’s somehow managed to rope in her baby daddy Lil’ Wayne to star as her love interest.

When I first heard this song on Valentines Day I assumed that it was aimed at Nivea’s ex-husband The-Dream for wifing up fellow R&B singer Christina Milian and getting her pregnant, but one look at this new music video and you can tell that Nivea’s pointing the finger directly at Weezy, who not only got Nivea pregnant but also managed to knock-up video model Lauren London at the same time.

Overall it’s a fantastic video for an independent artist who’s most likely on a shoe-string budget, and it’s actually made me appreciate the song a lot more which I’m now viewing as kind of a raw and haunting R&B revenge anthem.

Nivea’s currently planning to return to the music scene this summer with a brand new album Purple Heart, and now a new song called “Dance Floor” produced by Bangladesh has leaked online. You can check it out by clicking here.

Young Money do Sin City for “Roger That” video

Posted in Music Videos on March 1st, 2010 by The Prophet

With “Bedrock” riding high in the charts (#3 Hot 100, #1 Rap singles) Young Money are striking while the iron is hot and moving onto their next single “Roger That”, which was premiered on BET’s earlier today.

The video is inspired by Frank Millers Sin City so it looks like a hip-hop version of the artists popular film and graphic novels. Nicki Minaj inevitably steals the show in the clip, trading in the freaky look she sported in Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad” video for something much sexier.

Speaking of Nicki, she confirmed earlier this week that the first single from her upcoming debut album is titled “Massive Attack”, and was produced by and features Sean Garrett which I reported last week. It should be released this month so keep your eyes peeled.

Lil’ Wayne shoots NINE new music videos!

Posted in News on February 10th, 2010 by The Prophet

Lil’ Wayne is about to be thrown behind bars soon on charges of gun possession, and he’s keen to make sure that the world  won’t be deprived of his sweet sweet music for the year that he’ll be locked up.

According to music video director David Rousseau Weezy has shot a whopping nine music videos, all from different projects including Tha Carter IV, Rebirth, and the We Are Young Money compilation album.

“Everybody is on board because everybody knows what’s at stake. Unlike T.I. and some of these other guys that’ve disappeared while they were in, the point is to keep Wayne [visible] on TV and everything for whatever time he’s in. He’s at the height of his career, you can’t let that momentum slip.” {source}

I love Lil’ Wayne and he’s actually one of my favorite rappers, but can he please just chill behind bars and forget about MTV for a second? Go away for a while so I can miss you a little bit!

Lil’ Wayne covers Rolling Stone, Carter IV release date announced (kind of) and Rebirth sales predictions

Posted in News, Photoshoots on February 3rd, 2010 by The Prophet

Soon to-be-jailed rapper Lil’ Wayne is determined to go out with a bang before he’s behind bars, landing the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine.

Inside the mag Weezy chats about his impending incarceration, and also reveals that his next studio album Tha Carter IV will be released after he gets out of jail in 2011. Wayne is serving a one year sentence for gun possession starting this month, so with the inevitable album pushbacks that so often plague the rapper it’ll be a miracle if we get it first-half of 2011.

What is in stores though is Weezy’s rock album Rebirth, which as you all know leaked online months ago. The album won’t top the Billboard 200 next week, that honor will belong to Lady Antebellum again, but he should land at #2 with about 150k.

I wonder if he filmed any Rebirth video’s to be released while he’s behind bars, like what Lil’ Kim did with “Whoa”?

“Love Is a Drug” for Leighton Meester and Lil’ Wayne

Posted in News on January 17th, 2010 by The Prophet

Leighton Meester will reportedly release “Make It Rain” featuring Lil’ Wayne as her second single, or at least that’s what Just Jared is saying.

The song is from the 23-year-olds upcoming debut album which has now officially been titled Love Is a Drug.

I’m excited for the Weezy collabo, but I’m not too fond of the album title. Does Leighton not know that “Your Love Is My Drug” is a future #1 smash for Ke$ha just waiting to happen?

The album currently has no release date, but expect things to kick into gear once Leighton wraps up filming the country music drama “Love Don’t Let Me Down” with Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw.

When Love is a Drug does finally hit stores expect to hear collaborations with RedOne, Clinton Sparks, Adam Lambert, Polow Da Don, Cathy Dennis, Kenna and more.

Lil’ Wayne’s On Fire (not literally) in new music video and Rebirth pushed back again

Posted in Music Videos, Rumours on January 7th, 2010 by The Prophet

Lil’ Wayne released his new music video “On Fire” earlier today, which is one of the many singles from his serially-delayed rock album Rebirth.

I was hoping that he’d take the song’s title a little more literally and blow lots of stuff up and rock out on the guitar on top of burning cars with babes hanging off him, but you know, this’ll do to I guess.

As for Weezy’s Rebirth, new reports are claiming that it’s been pushed back from February to June 22nd.

Normally I’d respond with a “What kind of fuckery is this?”, but the album’s already leaked in full so it’s all good from my end!

Jamie Foxx and Lil’ Wayne head “Straight to the Dancefloor” for new single

Posted in New Music on December 21st, 2009 by The Prophet

[Download/Listen Here]

The ruler of the rent-a-rappers Lil’ Wayne strikes again by latching himself on to Jamie Foxx’s new single “Straight to the Dancefloor”. According to DJ Neptune the song was produced by Los Da Mystro and penned by Rico Love, and will appear on Foxx’s new LP Body (due March 2, 2010).

This club banger may not be rocket science but if it’s only aim is to get people “straight to the dancefloor” then I’d say it’s succeeded.

Now who could’ve done without hearing Jamie sing about his nuts? I don’t know why but this guy is just not sexy to me, so the less I hear about his genitals the better.

Lil’ Wayne & Nicki Minaj “Knockout” Rebirth two months early

Posted in New Music on December 16th, 2009 by The Prophet

[Download Link]

Online retailer Amazon fucked up in a major when yesterday news broke that they had accidentally shipped 500 copies of Lil’ Wayne’s Rebirth to pre-order customers, more than two months prior to the albums official release date of February 1.

Well the album has now obviously leaked online, and Weezy has nobody to blame for himself. What did he expect after pushing the damn thing back fifty times? Karma is a bitch.

Anyways here’s one of the many killer cuts from Rebirth titled “Knockout”, which see’s Weezy asking Nicki Minaj “Are you into black men?”. Nicki hits back with the classy response “When I throw this pussy you better not start duckin’!”.

Are you going to buy Rebirth legally when it hits shelves?

Lil’ Wayne pushes Rebirth back for the billionth time

Posted in News on December 9th, 2009 by The Prophet

I should’ve known that the impending December 21 release date for Lil’ Waynes rock album Rebirth was too good to be true, and it turns out that I was right.

Cash Money rapper Birdman has confirmed via his Twitter that the album will now be released on February 1st.

The good news however is that the Young Money compilation will still drop on its scheduled release date of Dec 21.

I’ve been waiting for this album all year and now I wish they’d just shelve it and put us out of our misery because it’s better than getting your hopes up and then being torn down!

At least it will give him time to push the new single though “On Fire”. God forbid that the song flops because if it does we’ll probably be in for another pushback.

Weezy, Nicki, and Drake party up a storm in the “Bedrock” music video

Posted in Music Videos on December 7th, 2009 by The Prophet

The Young Money crew have just dropped their new video “Bedrock” featuring R&B singer Lloyd, which is lifted from the upcoming YM compilation album We Are Young Money (Dec 21).

The clip features all ya hip-hop faves like Lil’ Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, SNL and many more so check it out.

Are we about to see a Young Money style take over, similar to when Murder Inc ruled the world?
