‘Paparazzi’ producer Rob Fusari files $30 million suit against Lady GaGa

Posted in News on March 18th, 2010 by The Prophet

Remember when I did that post about producer Rob Fusari who called out Lady GaGa by saying that she used to hate dance music and ‘performance art’? Well now Fusari has filed a $30 million suit against two companies owned by the singer, asking for a 20% cut from a contract he says he signed with GaGa’s team in 2006.

Fusari, who penned and produced several songs from Lady GaGa’s multi-platinum debut The Fame including her hit single “Paparazzi”, says he was romantically involved with the singer, helped her get her record deal with Interscope Records, convinced her to switch from the rock music she loved to the more commercial dance beats that have now become her trademark, and even came up with the name “Lady GaGa”.

According to the lawsuit, Lady Gaga and Fusari’s relationship turned romantic and then became a business partnership in May 2006, when they created a joint venture called Team Love Child LLC to promote her career. Fusari’s share was 20 percent.

The lawsuit says that once his romantic relationship with GaGa (real name Stefani Germanotta) turned sour that she denied him a 20 percent share of song royalties, 15 percent of merchandising revenue and other money that he’s owed.

“It’s an age-old story in the music business,” said Robert Meloni, a lawyer for Fusari. “You become famous and you turn on the person who discovered you.” {source}

Although this case pertains to potential royalties that are owed, this isn’t the first time that the authenticity of Lady GaGa’s image and sound have come into question. In August last year GaGa’s first booking manager and producer Frankie Fredericks claimed that GaGa was a brilliant musician and composer who had never shown an interest in commercial pop music, but sold out and completely changed her sound and image once she got a major record deal.

He also said that Rob Fusari was involved in creating the “Lady GaGa” name, and that he doesn’t buy her “Lady GaGa” image as her true persona like she so feverishly insists that it is. {source}

Do you believe Rob’s claims against Steffie G, or do you think he just wants a bigger slice of the GaGa pie?

Lady GaGa’s “Telephone” video reaches 13 million Youtube views in 3 days

Posted in News on March 14th, 2010 by The Prophet

You either love it, hate it, or just want to get as far away from the damn thing as you can, but the slick, well-oiled hype machine behind Lady GaGa and Beyonce’s “Telephone” video has worked like a charm because the clip has now received a mind-boggling 13 million views on Youtube in only 3 days.

If the views for the 9-minute “mini-movie” continue at this rate the clip could go on to top GaGa’s last single “Bad Romance”, which has currently received just over 148 million views since its release in November.

To add to GaGa’s growing popularity the singer will bring her Monster Ball tour to US arena’s in July, which will include a show at the enormous Madison Square Garden in NYC. Pretty impressive for someone with only two albums out.

Stefani is also working on an episode of the hit TV series Glee, as well as working on her third studio album and planning the next single from the The Fame Monster “Alejandro”.

Watch Lady GaGa & Beyonce’s “Telephone” video. Does it meet the hype?

Posted in Music Videos on March 11th, 2010 by The Prophet

After constant pushbacks and delays the biggest pop event of the year is finally here – Lady GaGa and Beyonce’s “Telephone” video!

The Jonas Åkerlund directed clip is inspired by Quenton Tarintino’s Kill Bill films and picks up right where “Paparazzi” left off, featuring a bad ass GaGa who’s having a ball behind bars after being locked up for killing her boyfriend.

Whilst the song itself isn’t particularly anything to write home about, the anticipation and hype for the “short film” music video has managed to reach an almost unbelievable level that hasn’t been seen in pop music for years.

Has the “Telephone” video lived up to it’s ridiculously high expectations? Drop a comment with your thoughts and reviews below and let me know exactly what you think!

Lady GaGa performs “Telephone” and “Brown Eyes” live on Jonathan Ross

Posted in Performances on March 5th, 2010 by The Prophet

Stefani Germanotta’s appearance on Friday Night with Jonathon Ross aired last night, which featured the uber-successful poptart storming the stage to perform two songs from her Fame/Fame Monster albums.

The Italian stallion banged out her ballad “Brown Eyes” in another one of her excellent piano performances, and also let her commercially successful alter-ego Lady GaGa come out to play for a glitzy pop performance of her current hit single “Telephone”.

In other news, GaGa is planning to release her critically acclaimed Monster Ball tour on DVD in 3D. Steffie’s always doing something new and exciting, I wonder how she’ll top herself for albums number three and four?

Lady GaGa’s “Alejandro” set to be third Fame Monster single

Posted in News on March 3rd, 2010 by The Prophet

According to GaGaDaily and AllAccess, the RedOne produced “Alejendro” will be the third single from Lady GaGa’s sophomore album The Fame: Monster.

The song is the follow-up to GaGa’s duet with Beyonce “Telephone”, which is currently doing well in the charts and is predicted to go even higher once the official music video premieres on March 8.

I was hoping that GaGa would go for either “Teeth” or “Speechless” as her next single so she could evolve her sound a little bit because so far all her singles have just consisted of similar sounding dance-pop songs, but you know what they say – if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Rob Fusari on pre-fame Lady GaGa “She used to be anti club beats and performance art”

Posted in Interviews on February 24th, 2010 by The Prophet

The Knowles family aren’t the only people that producer Rob Fusari is dishing on in his recent Billboard interview, with the “Paprazzi” hitmaker also discussing his time working with pop megastar Lady GaGa who he worked with quite a bit on her record-breaking debut album The Fame.

The story of how they met and GaGa’s transition is quite a long one, but if you read through it all you’ll see that Rob gives an interesting glimpse into the makings of one of pops biggest stars.

Lady GaGa performs “Telephone” and “Dance In The Dark” at the Brit Awards

Posted in Performances on February 16th, 2010 by The Prophet

The Brit Awards were held tonight, with Lady GaGa taking the stage for a much hyped performance of her single “Telephone” and her The Fame Monster album cut “Dance In The Dark”.

This performance wasn’t as extravagant as we’re used to seeing from GaGa, with the singer banging away on the piano for “Telephone” and stripping it down into a ballad just like she’s done many times in the past before for songs like “Poker Face” and “Bad Romance”.

GaGa then stood up and posed a little whilst miming and singing a remix to “Dance In The Dark” before heading off stage.

It wasn’t her most exhilarating performance, but she still did well on the night taking home three Brit awards; International Breakthrough Act, International Female Solo Artist and Best International Album for The Fame.

Darkchild loves Lindsay Lohan… Wants her to work with Lady GaGa!

Posted in News on February 1st, 2010 by The Prophet

Sometimes actress and occasional singer Lindsay Lohan has made no secret of her love and admiration for Lady GaGa (just check her Twitter page), often publicly gushing that she’d love for to record a duet with the pop princess.

Well now it seems that Lindsay’s dream could actually become a reality, with producer Darkchild (GaGa’s “Telephone”) keen to get Lindsay back in the studio with not only himself but also Lady GaGa to.

“I can pair them up,” says Jerkins, whose most recent collaboration was on Gaga’s “Telephone” featuring Beyoncé. “I would love it. I would love to see what could happen.”

“If she stays focused, I think she has what it takes,” Jerkins told reporters this weekend at the Clive Davis/Recording Academy pre-Grammy party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “I’ve talked to her, and I said, ‘You’ve got what it takes. I really believe in you.’ “

“I’ve seen a lot of people questioning actresses who have wanted to become pop stars, and they don’t have it,” Jerkins said. “I believe she has it, something deep down. I’ve listened to her in the past, and I think there’s something there. It just needs to be pulled out.” {source}

Even if the pair didn’t do a duet, Lady GaGa and Darkchild could certainly write and produce a song to help Lindsay get back on the charts. Just this week Lindsay re-confirmed on her Twitter that her long-awaited third album was still going ahead, and that she’s just busy trying to make it “perfect”.

Lindsay really has a lot of X-factor and if she puts her mind to it I’m she could end up with something in the vein of Rihanna’s Rated R or Britney Spears Blackout. Let’s hope she can get her act together and takes advantage of this major opportunity with Darkchild!

Not everybody goes GaGa over guns

Posted in News on January 31st, 2010 by The Prophet

Gun safety group the Brady Campaign have spoken out about the depictions of firearms in popular culture today, targeting Beyonce & Lady GaGa for their pornographic gun totin’ music video for “Video Phone”.

“The music was fine, but I wonder why they went out of their way to glorify guns in their production,” the campaign’s president, Paul Helmke, wrote on its website. “Beyond the sexual stereotype of guns in general, it’s hard to understand why they are in the video at all.”

But why the sudden interest in the not-so-recently-released music video and its stars?

The twosome, as well as soon-to-be-jailed-on-gun-charges rapper, Lil Wayne, are set to take the stage at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, and the activists are looking for the broadcast to be held accountable for the message it is allegedly sending.

“I can hear people say, ‘Hey, it’s just show business,’ and that Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne each put on a good show. I understand that,” explained Helmke.

“Yet it is difficult to deny the influence that these entertainers have on our popular culture and the young people who absorb it,” he continued. “Guns aren’t toys, even when they’re made with pretty colors or sung about in rap songs, and it is dangerous to treat them that way.

“It is a deadly problem that more of us—including celebrities—should take seriously.” {Source: E News}

Hmmph. Sounds exactly like everything I’ve been saying for months now.

SNAPPED! Lady GaGa & Beyonce go for a drive on the “Telephone” video set

Posted in Candids on January 30th, 2010 by The Prophet

Some more set pics have emerged from the music video of Lady GaGa & Beyonce’s latest collaboration “Telephone”. The video is being shot by GaGa’s “Paparazzi” director Jonas Åkerlund, and the theme will reportedly center around a desert prison break out.

Judging by these pics the video looks a lot like pop art-meets-B-movie, which is pretty exciting. I’m just glad that GaGa is in charge of things and not Bey because “Video Phone” was absolute garbage.

Another thing that separates “Telephone” from “Video Phone” is it’s chart position, with Telephone already reaching #20 on the Hot 100. With the force of one of GaGa’s popular music video’s behind it I can easily see the song being the next #1 single for the pair.
