New stoner anthem from Kid Cudi’s next album leaks online

Posted in New Music on March 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

Kid Cudi and Snoop Dogg spoke about the importance of family (seriously) on “That Tree” from Snoops Malice ‘n’ Wonderland re-release, and now they’re back together rapping about the other type of tree on a new stoner anthem from Cudi’s upcoming collaboration album Cudder: The Revolution of Evolution.

The song is currently unfinished and without a title, so Cudi went on his official blog to spill the tea on the track to avoid any confusion over where it’s from and what it’s for.

i recorded the snoop joint that leaked around the time i was workin on MOTM, its a deleted scene that im including on Cudder. I DID NOT LEAK IT and i barely have a name for it so ill let u guys kno whats its really called as soon as i figure it out haha. By the time u hear it on the album it will be a bit diff with a better mix and some other shit added. Also, the homie Rashad “Ringo” Smith produced the record, NOT DR. DRE. if u got the record already cool. if not, if u can find it rock out.

Part of me didn’t think that the Cudder album would be that good, but now that I’ve heard this my expectations are really high. Now excuse me while I go smoke a blunt. Cudi is such a bad influence on me.

Róisín Murphy and Kid Cudi shine on Crookers “Tons of Friends”

Posted in New Music on March 1st, 2010 by The Prophet

Italian DJ duo the Crookers will release their first album Tons of Friends on March 8th, which of course has now leaked online and couldn’t have come a moment sooner.

With a title like Tons of Friends one would expect a slew of features, and the Crookers don’t disappoint by roping an eclectic a-list cast including Kardinal Offishal, Kelis, Will.i.am, Major Lazer, Pitbull, Spank Rock, Baltimore rapper Rye Rye, French band Yelle and a bunch more.

One of the best additions on the album though belongs to Róisín Murphy, who steals the show with the crazy club bamger “Royal T”. The song switches tempo more times than the Sugababes have changed members or Beyonce has told a lie, often sounding like several different songs all rolled into one which is the beauty of it.

Another stand out is Kid Cudi’s electro-rap fusion “Embrace the Martian”. The song actually first appeared way back in 2008 on Cudi’s breakthrough mixtape A Kid Named Cudi, but it’s somehow found its way onto the new Crookers album so I thought I’d use that as an excuse to post it again since it’s been one of my faves for the longest time now.

If you’re searching for your next weekend party album than make sure you go pick up Tons of Friends when it drops on March 8.

Kid Cudi covers Scene magazine and raps about trees with Snoop Dogg and Diplo

Posted in New Music, News on February 22nd, 2010 by The Prophet

Rapper/actor Kid Cudi is on the cover of the latest issue of Australian magazine Scene after he was down under for the Good Vibrations festival.  I was at the front of the crowd when he performed at the Sydney show and he was by far the best out of all the three acts I saw that day (Gossip were second best, Salt n Pepa were surprisingly third).

Cudi’s also on a newly leaked Snoop Dogg track “That Tree” (which shockingly isn’t about smoking weed) from the re-release of Snoops tenth album Malice In Wonderland which drops March 23. The song was produced by Diplo and it’s one of the better songs from the Malice album, which is a big compliment since it’s a great album that didn’t really do the numbers I thought it should have.

And finally Cudi’s first foray into acting has been met with a lukewarm response after his new HBO TV drama “How to Make It In America” premiered to less than a million viewers. Has anyone checked out the show yet? I’m gonna watch it some time this week, I’ve just been too preoccupied with trash like American Idol, Bad Girls Club and Celebrity Rehab to find the time. {source – Dat New Cudi}

David Guetta thinks he’s too cool for school in the “Memories” music video

Posted in Music Videos on February 9th, 2010 by The Prophet

David Guetta tries his hardest to be one of the cool kids in the video for his new single “Memories”, which features my man Kid Cudi and is one of the only songs that I actually like from Guetta’s One Love album.

Now I know that all these singles are actually by David Guetta and only feature other artists, but can he please stay out of the music videos? All these One Love video’s have the likes of Kelly Rowland, Kid Cudi and Estelle looking effortlessly fly whilst David Guetta bounces around behind them waving his arms and screaming “Look at me! I’m hip with the bling bling! Yay!”.

Some people are meant to be in front of the camera (Kid Cudi, K-Row) and others are meant to be behind it (David Guetta).

Drake covers Complex and denies being a sell-out

Posted in Photoshoots on January 26th, 2010 by The Prophet

Sexy M.F. Drake has covered the latest issue of Complex magazine to start drumming up some publicity for his upcoming debut album Thank Me Later, which should see a single released soon since the album has reportedly been completed.

During the accompanying interview Drake talks about the usual things such as working with Lil’ Wayne and the horrible music video for “Best I Ever Had”, but he also addresses criticism that he’s a sell-out who’s achieved commercial success because his music is more mainstream than his contemporaries like Kid Cudi, J.Cole and Wale etc.

Complex: Of all your contemporaries, it seems like you want to be famous the most.

Drake: That’s gonna change. When J. Cole’s sound is the new sound that everybody wants to hear, he’s gonna be like, “I wanna be as big as possible with this shit.” I didn’t jeopardize anything to be in the position I’m in. You’re listening to the shit that I believe in, not some shit I did because I needed to get here. People just happen to embrace my shit. That’s very rare—but I also think the younger generation appreciates that brand of music, so I think it’s possible for one of these guys to emerge and do exactly what I’m doing. {source}

Personally I wouldn’t call Drake a sell-out and I do actually love all his music, but I definitely think that he’s more interested in the almighty dollar than Wale & Kid Cudi are, who in my opinion are both musically superior to Drake.

At the end of the day though they’re all making great music and they all have their own niche, so I’m comfortable with being a huge fan of all three.

What do you think of the whole Drake, Wale and Cudi situation?

Kid Cudi slams the music industry “This music is WWF fam and if you don’t comply they try to destroy you!”

Posted in Random on January 2nd, 2010 by The Prophet

Well it turns out that Kerli isn’t the only one publicly venting her frustrations over something Lady GaGa related, with rapper Kid Cudi lashing out at the music industry during a rant at one of his concerts last week which seems to have been brought on from his recent firing from GaGa’s Monster Ball tour.

They trying to make me look like the poster boy for violence … for ignorance. I tell motherf*ckers I’m the poster boy for honesty, realness … anarchy. I don’t give a f*ck about this business.

I never talk sh*t, even on my album. You never hear me talking sh*t on my songs, I just rap. But because of my style n*ggas try to take jabs at me, well guess what n*ggas? I’m jabbing back and I bet you I’ll hit the right one!

I’m the truest motherf*cker in this business and people trying to destroy me. All these other n*ggas that y’all probably fans of is sucker ass n*ggas, I met them. I was a fan when I was buying their CDs, I’m not a fan of they music no more. This business is WWF fam and if you don’t comply, they try to destroy you. I never talk sh*t, I came to this game, just wanted to smoke my weed and motherf*ckers just wanna’ destroy me, I don’t give a f*ck.

This rant is hardly shocking, especially coming from Cudi who’s known for his emotional outburts. I guess he’s pretty sore over the bad press he got for punching a fan recently. I felt like GaGa and her management threw him under the bus a little with this one, especially since the fan said there were no hard feelings, but at the same time violence is unacceptable so giving him the boot was justified.

What I do find interesting though is how many artists lately have been speaking out against the industry. I for one hope it continues!

Kid Cudi booted from Lady GaGa tour after punching fan

Posted in News on December 16th, 2009 by The Prophet

There’s been a lot of controversy online after Kid Cudi was caught on camera assaulting a fan at recent show after the fan was throwing things on stage during the rappers set — the only problem was that Cudi hit the wrong guy.

Despite the incident taking place at a solo show and the fan in question insisting that he has no plans to press charges, Cudi has announced that he will be leaving Lady GaGa’s “Monster’s Ball Tour”, with Jason DeRulo set to replace him as the opening act.

“Kid Cudi has decided to take an early leave of absence from Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour, in order to balance his schedule surrounding the recording of his next album and acting commitments,” the official statement reads. “Cudi does not want to disappoint his fans and will move forward with his individual show dates in December and throughout the month of January.” [source]

Despite what the statement says I think it’s pretty obvious that Cudi was given the boot for the incident with the fan. I don’t see how this effects GaGa and her tour since the incident took place at one of Cudi’s solo shows, and the fan publicly said to TMZ that he has no hard feelings and has no plans to press charges.

I thought GaGa was supposed to be some bad ass rebel or something? Mainstream pop stars and their labels are so scared of a little bad publicity!

Kid Cudi punches a fan during show

Posted in Performances on December 13th, 2009 by The Prophet

Kid Cudi pulled a Chris Brown last night during a show in Vancouver when a fan started throwing rubbish on stage, leaping into the crowd to clock the culprit right in the side of their head before storming off stage.

Unfortunately though word has it that Cudi hit the wrong fan! Let’s hope that nobody decides to sue.

It’s not all violence and bloodshed though, because Cudi still managed to perform his new single “The Pursuit of Happiness”. This was however before the punch took place. Check it out below.

Drake is in the pursuit of Kid Cudi

Posted in Music Videos on December 8th, 2009 by The Prophet

Two months too late rapper Kid Cudi has premiered the video for his third single “The Pursuit of Happiness” from his debut album Man On The Moon: The End of Day.

Canadian rapper Drake appears in the video in place of the songs actual features MGMT & Ratatat. Why is Drake in the video you ask? I have no idea, he just seems to follow Cudi around for five minutes. He looks hot though so it’s ok.

“The Pursuit of Happiness” was released as a single in the beginning of October, peaking at #59 on the Hot 100, but it’s now being re-released next month to capitalise off of Cudi’s support slot on Lady GaGa’s new tour.

The video is amazing and the song is even better so I’m glad that the song will get another chance to shine. Check it out below.

LEAKED: Robin Thicke – Sex Therapy

Posted in New Music on December 7th, 2009 by The Prophet

Robin Thickes fourth album Sex Therapy has now leaked online, a week before it’s scheduled release date of December 15.

You can check out one of the tracks from the album above called “Elevatas” which features rapper Kid Cudi.

I’ve briefly skipped through the album, but so far it sounds pretty tight. I was a little worried before that he might have jeopardised his sound but I think he’s managed to to keep his trademark style whilst evolving and growing as an artist.

What do you think of the album? Will you be buying it legally?
