Katy Perry’s album sales may be lacking, but when it come to singles success the Cali girl is giving Hot 100 queen Rihanna a run for her money. This week Perry scores the third No. 1 single of her career as “Teenage Dream” moves from 2-1, selling 221k to bring it’s total to 1,287,000.
Along with Eminem, Katy is the only artist to score two consecutive number one singles in 2010, and the first female artist to post consecutive No. 1s since Lady GaGa topped the charts in 2009 with “Just Dance” and “Poker Face”.
Katy’s climb to the top ends Eminem and Rihanna’s seven-week run at the top with “Love the Way You Lie”. However, this week the song topped the 3 million sales mark, making Rihanna the first artist in history to amass five 3-million-selling digital hits. Rihanna’s four previous 3-million-sellers are: “Umbrella”, “Don’t Stop The Music,” “Disturbia” and T.I.’s “Live Your Life.” [Via]
After initially losing steam following a strong opening week, Taylor Swift’s “Mine” shows that it has staying power by rising from 9-7. Meanwhile, Ke$ha continues to excel by climbing 10-8 with her fourth single “Take it Off”, and Bruno Mars cracks the top five as “Just the Way You Are” reaches No. 4.
Somebody else who will be pretty happy with this week’s chart is rapper Nelly, who makes his official comeback as latest single “Just a Dream” cracks the top ten by reaching No. 9 in it’s third week on the Hot 100. This is the rapper’s first top ten hit since topping the charts back in 2005 with his hit “Grillz”. Another person on the comeback trail is Chris Brown, who scores his highest charting Hot 100 hit in over two years as “Deuces” moves 24-19, while remaining at No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
Country act Sugarland are having huge crossover success with their reggae-influenced new single “Stuck Like Glue”, which this week reaches a new peak of No. 24. It’s now the second highest charting Hot 100 single of their career, after the platinum-certified “All I Want to Do” hit the top twenty back in 2008. Meanwhile Miranda Lambert’s fourth Revolution single “Only Prettier” makes it’s debut at No. 98, seemingly fueled by her recent record breaking CMA nominations.
Two other interesting moves on this week’s chart are Cee-Lo and Jazmine Sullivan. Cee-Lo’s latest single “Fuck You” makes a huge jump from 96-33, while Jazmine’s “Holding You Down” climbs ten places to No. 88 in it’s second week, and reaches a new peak of No. 15 on the R&B chart.
Until next week…
