Newlywed country queen Carrie Underwood has selected “Mama’s Song” as the fourth single from her Platinum-certified third album Play On. The ballad — which tells the story of a young bride assuring her mother that she’s in good hands with her new husband — was chosen after Carrie was inspired by her own recent marriage to hockey player Mike Fisher.
“The next single is “Mama’s Song” for a number of reasons. I’m just in such a happy place in my life right now and it really seems to fit, and that song means a lot more to me right now than it ever has.”
I’ve loved this song since it was first released as buzz track to promote Play On, and I think tying in Carrie’s new single with her recent marriage is a good strategy. I would’ve liked to see the addictive Max Martin produced “Quitter” released, but it’s a little too pop for Carrie and could take away from her country sheen, which is what happened to pop star Taylor Swift.
Take a listen to “Mama’s Song” below.
Besides selecting her next smash, Carrie was on the Today Show yesterday to perform her current single “Undo It”. The song is #24 on the Hot 100, and #1 on the Country Charts, making it her tenth chart topping country single.
In other news, Carrie’s 2005 debut ‘Some Hearts‘ has now actually sold 7 million copies in the US alone, making it the most successful American Idol-related album in the States. Carrie is also the most awarded Idol ever, with a trophy case that includes five Grammys, 10 ACM awards and 14 Billboard awards.
