Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood all lead ACM nominations

Posted in News on March 2nd, 2010 by The Prophet

The nominations for the 45th annual Academy of Country Music Awards were revealed on Tuesday (March 2), and unlike the recent Grammy Awards the ACM’s have actually managed to get things right.

Leading the pack with a whopping seven nominations is chart topping country trio Lady Antebellum, who received five noms alone for their crossover smash hit “Need You Now”. The bands other two nominations were for Top Vocal Group and for Album of the Year for their sophomore effort Need You Now, which has already sold 1.1 million copies in the US alone after only four weeks of release.

Following Lady A with six nominations is my favorite Miranda Lambert, who got four noms for her hit “White Liar”, as well as Top Female Vocalist and Album of the Year for Revolution.

Also with six nominations is Carrie Underwood, who nabbed an album of the year nom for Play On and is also up for the prestigious Entertainer of the Year award. If she wins the award again Carrie will be the first female in ACM history to win it twice.

Carrie’s also up for her fourth straight Top Female Vocalist award – an award she’s won every year since 2007.

Trailing slightly behind Carrie and Miranda is Grammy princess Taylor Swift, who’s up for five nominations including Entertainer of the Year, Top Female Vocalist and Song of the Year.

I haven’t been this excited for an awards show since… ever! Miranda’s “White Liar” has to get song of the year!

Carrie Underwood & Daughtry rock the Super Bowl

Posted in Performances on February 7th, 2010 by The Prophet

American Idol royalty Carrie Underwood and Daughtry were snapped together last night attending the Creative Arts Agency Superbowl Party in Miami, Florida.

The pair are both in town for Super Bowl related performances; Daughtry performed his single “Life After You” at the Tailgate Party, whilst Carrie got the honor of singing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the actual game.

Whilst everybody was impressed by Carries powerhouse vocals, others were just shocked that Daughtry had finally grown some hair.

Check out both fantastic performances below.

Carrie Underwood to make her feature film debut

Posted in News on February 4th, 2010 by The Prophet

After wowing fans with her acting skills in her music videos such as “Just a Dream” and “Temporary Home”, country singer Carrie Underwood is ready to take the next step in her acting career by starring in her first feature film.

The indie-drama titled “Soul Surfer” is based on the life of teen surfing champ and shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton.

The movie will be shot by schlocky director Sean McNamara (Raise Your Voice, Bratz: The Movie), and will alongside Underwood will star Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid. {source}

Carrie has been appropriately cast as a church youth leader, which shouldn’t be much of a stretch for the singer of “Jesus, Take The Wheel”.

Soul Surfer won’t be the first time Carrie has acted though, with the 26-year-old recently shooting an episode of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, as well as recently starring in her own variety show which included a bunch of cheesy skits.

If Carrie’s acting in this new movie is half as good as her “Temporary Home” video then you can count me in!

Carrie Underwood’s new video “Temporary Home” is a real tear jerker!

Posted in Music Videos on February 2nd, 2010 by The Prophet

Carrie Underwood has just released the video for her latest single “Temporary Home”, which is the second release from her platinum-certified third album Play On.

The video for the very spiritual song is your standard country clip affair with random people acting out the songs lyrics as Carrie gazes at them all from a passing Taxi, but then the video suddenly changes gears when Carrie arrives at her destination and pays an emotional visit to her dying grandfather in the hospital.

*Tears*

Why did Taylor beat Carrie at the Grammy’s again? Actually let’s not go there.

Anyways “Temporary Home” has already reached #10 on the country charts, and I’d love to see it become her ninth #1. Hopefully the song can do well on the Christian charts as well because it’s certainly suited to Christian radio.

Susan Boyle passes 3 million and crushes Mary J. Blige on the Billboard charts

Posted in News on December 30th, 2009 by The Prophet

Susan Boyle shows no signs of slowing down in her fourth week on the charts, with HitsDoubleDaily reporting that the Scottish singer is set to sell another 520k of her debut album I Dreamed a Dream, pushing her total sales to over 3 million copies in the States alone.

This may be good news for Auntie Susie, but it’s not so great for Mary J.Blige who’s new album Stronger With Each Tear now has to settle for a #2 debut with roughly 340k sold.

Alicia Keys, who debuted last week at #2 with her new album The Element of Freedom, stands at #3 with 270-280k, down just slightly from last week’s 417k bringing her two-week total close to 700k.

Carrie Underwood is also set to sell another 150k of her third album Play On, which is easily enough to give the album a Platinum certification for sales of over 1 million.

Susan has now destroyed MJB and AK, and it looks like Taylor Swift will be her next victim because the two are currently neck-and-neck for the top selling album of 2009. Good on her!

Carrie Underwood & Dolly Parton perform “I Will Always Love You”

Posted in Performances on December 8th, 2009 by The Prophet

Carrie Underwood proved to be a ratings winner last night with her FOX All-Star Holiday Special raking in an impressive 8.5 million viewers.

During the show she performed a number of songs from her new album, as well as some of her back catalogue and the covers, so I hunted through Youtube and found two of the best ones to post.

The first is Carries duet with the Queen of Country Dolly Parton, with the pair singing the Dolly classic “I Will Always Love You” which was later made famous by Whitney Houston.

Carrie then showed off her beautiful vocals on “What Can I Say”, a duet with the Sons of Sylvia that appears on her latest album Play On.

Carrie really does have one of the best voices in the industry right now, so it’s a shame that her personalty is so boring. She’s like the country Leona Lewis but I love her. I hope that Jennifer Hudsons upcoming Holiday Special is just as good as this one.

Carrie Underwood surpasses Kelly Clarkson as biggest selling Idol

Posted in News on December 3rd, 2009 by The Prophet

The original Idol Kelly Clarkson has just lost her crown as the biggest selling American Idol in the States, with country crooner Carrie Underwood edging in this week to take the top spot.

Since hitting the music scene in 2003 Kells album sales total 10,428,000, with her highest seller being 2004’s Breakaway which sold six million copies in the US. Her latest album All I Ever Wanted has now reached 800k, but looks to go higher with the continuing success of it’s single “Already Gone”.

Underwood on the other hand has only released three albums since winning the show in 2005, but her total sales are 10,539,000. Her biggest seller is her debut Some Hearts which sold over 7 million copies in the States and holds the record for the best-selling female country debut of all time. Her third album Play On was released early last month and has already sold 656k.

Kelly fans don’t need to worry though because Kelly is still the highest selling American Idol worldwide with over 22 million albums sold.

I’m a massive Carrie fan so happy for her, but Kelly will always be my favourite. Girlfriend has gotten me through some major break ups before!

Carrie Underwood confirms 2nd single… and performs it on Conan O’Brian

Posted in Performances on November 17th, 2009 by The Prophet

Country Queen Carrie Underwood stopped by Conan O’Brian last night to perform her second single “Temporary Home” from her #1 album Play On.

Great vocals and a lovely performance from Carrie as always. I’m glad that “Temporary Home” is the next single because I just love Carrie’s uber-Christian songs! There’s a lot of potential singles on Play On though so it should be good to see how it goes in the wake of the Taylor Swift takeover.

SNAPPED: Fergie / Ashlee Simpson / Ciara / Carrie Underwood

Posted in Candids on November 12th, 2009 by The Prophet

Fergie was snapped last night partying in Paris with Burlesque Queen Dita Von Teese.

The singer recently teamed up with rocker Slash for a cover of the Guns ‘n’ Roses classic “Paradise City”. Click here to check it out in case you missed it.

Singer/actress Ashlee Simpson showed off her new dark hairdo earlier today when she went to a doctors appointment in Beverly Hills.

Despite being fired from Melrose Place Ashlee is already preparing to get back to work and will reprise her role in Chicago as Roxie Hart when she hits Broadway this December.

Rumours are also floating around that she’s starting a clothing line, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

How about a new album Ashlee?

Ciara was snapped leaving a salon in Los Angeles this afternoon.

The 24-year-old recently signed a lucrative deal to be the face of the new LG Touch phone. She’s also working on her next album with The-Dream & Tricky, and will also appear in an upcoming issue of German Vogue.

Country crooner Carrie Underwood walked the red carpet last night at the 43rd Country Music Awards. Carrie played co-host for the night, and also performed her new single “Cowboy Casanova”.

You can check out the raunchy (by her standards) performance by clicking here.

Carrie has a lot to be happy about at the moment. Not only is “Cowboy Casanova” the #1 single on the country charts, but her third album Play On just topped the Billboard 200 with 318k copies sold. That gives her the highest first week sales of 2009 for a female artist, and the second highest overall.

Congratulations!
