Carrie Underwood selects fourth single and performs on the Today Show.

Newlywed country queen Carrie Underwood has selected “Mama’s Song” as the fourth single from her Platinum-certified third album Play On. The ballad — which tells the story of a young bride assuring her mother that she’s in good hands with her new husband — was chosen after Carrie was inspired by her own recent marriage to hockey player Mike Fisher.

“The next single is “Mama’s Song” for a number of reasons. I’m just in such a happy place in my life right now and it really seems to fit, and that song means a lot more to me right now than it ever has.”

I’ve loved this song since it was first released as buzz track to promote Play On, and I think tying in Carrie’s new single with her recent marriage is a good strategy. I would’ve liked to see the addictive Max Martin produced “Quitter” released, but it’s a little too pop for Carrie and could take away from her country sheen, which is what happened to pop star Taylor Swift.

Take a listen to “Mama’s Song” below.

Besides selecting her next smash, Carrie was on the Today Show yesterday to perform her current single “Undo It”. The song is #24 on the Hot 100, and #1 on the Country Charts, making it her tenth chart topping country single.

In other news, Carrie’s 2005 debut ‘Some Hearts‘ has now actually sold 7 million copies in the US alone, making it the most successful American Idol-related album in the States. Carrie is also the most awarded Idol ever, with a trophy case that includes five Grammys, 10 ACM awards and 14 Billboard awards.

Country Queen Carrie Underwood performs “Undo It” at the CMT Awards.

Posted in Performances on June 9th, 2010 by The Prophet

Carrie Underwood took to the stage at the CMT Music Awards today to prove just why she won their ‘Performance of the Year’ Award, belting out an exciting rendition of her latest single “Undo It”.

It’s pretty hard to fault the Idol winner when it comes to her performance skills and this was no exception, but unfortunately her mic didn’t seem to be turned up quite loud enough this time, causing viewers to miss out on the full power of Underwood’s incredible pipes.

“Undo It” has already reached #25 on the Hot 100 and cracked the top ten of the Country Songs chart, but you can expect it to receive a major boost on the charts after this performance. I smell her tenth #1 hit coming soon.

CMT Awards Red Carpet: Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler and Taylor Swift.

Posted in Candids on June 9th, 2010 by The Prophet

The annual CMT Music Awards (Country music’s version of the VMA’s) were held today in Nashville, Tennessee, and all of country music’s biggest stars were out to celebrate the big event.

Leading the pack was of course, Carrie Underwood, who looked pretty in pink as she took home two awards on the night; ‘Video of the Year’ for “Cowboy Casanova” and ‘CMT performance of the Year’ for her tearjerker “Temporary Home”.

Following Underwood was Miranda Lambert, who in addition to topping the country charts with her latest single “The House That Built Me”, also took home the ‘Female Video of the Year’ for her hit “White Liar”.

Also in attendance was American Idol alum Kellie Picker, who failed to take home any awards. She has nothing to worry about though: Forbes recently placed her at No.4 on their list of the top ten highest earning Idols, with Kellie raking in $4.3 million in the past year thanks to touring revenue and royalty cheques.

And who could forget little ol’ Taylor Swift? She didn’t win anything though. *Kanye Shrug*

American Idol performances: Kelly Clarkson, Kris Allen, Carrie Underwood, Alanis Morissette and more!

Posted in Performances on May 27th, 2010 by The Prophet

The American Idol finale may have been all about the diva’s Christina Aguilera and Janet Jackson, but the night was also home to several other fantastic performances.

All the previous winners of American Idol (Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Taylor Nobody Cares and Kris Allen) joined forces to perform “Together We Are One” as a tribute to Simon Cowell, who is leaving the show and heading over to rival series The X Factor.

It was a great performance, but Kelly and Carrie clearly slayed their classmates. They outsung everybody else on the stage and showed that they really are two of the best female vocalists in the industry today.

Also performing was runner-up Crystal Bowersox, who was joined by one of her idols Alanis Morrissette to duet on “Ironic” and “You Oughta Know”. Crystal should’ve won the show, but it’s better that she didn’t because now she won’t be locked into one of those shifty contracts like Kelly Clarkson is.

Last up is Kris Allen, who thanks to the shining star that is Adam Lambert, is often overlooked as a talented artist in his own right. Kris gave a vocally perfect performance of his new single “The Truth”, which actually sounded pretty close to the actual CD version.

I really hope it’s a hit for him.

Check out all the talented singers below.

Carrie Underwood rocks out for official “Undo It” music video.

Posted in Music Videos on May 7th, 2010 by The Prophet

Country Queen Carrie Underwood today premiered the official music video for her new single “Undo It”, the third to be lifted from her 1.5 million selling album Play On.

Filmed on location during Carrie’s current sold-out Play On arena tour, the video shows the singer rocking out on stage and really shows how she’s grown both vocally and as a performer since winning American Idol five years ago.

Carrie’s last two singles from Play On, “Cowboy Casanova” and “Temporary Home”, both topped the country charts after their release and it looks like “Undo It” will follow them straight to #1.

Carrie really hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down since the mammoth success of her debut album Some Hearts, and as a long time fan I can really see how she’s becoming a much better artist with the more experience she gets under her belt. I can only hope that some day her label try and launch her properly internationally instead of just focusing on the US.

Carrie Underwood outsings everyone on Idol Gives Back.

Posted in Performances on April 22nd, 2010 by The Prophet

Since the rest of last nights Idol Gives Back performers were R&B related I decided to give country queen Carrie Underwood her own little post away from the rest of the class since she’s in a different genre.

Carrie, who is the biggest selling American Idol contestant in the US, made her third appearance on the charity special to perform her ballad “Change”, which happens to be the cheesiest song from her Platinum certified album Play On album and sounds like it was probably penned specifically with some kind of charity benefit performance in mind.

As usual the Grammy winning vocalist stole the show with the powerful voice that won her the competition back in 2005, showing that if anything her voice is actually getting better as she becomes more experienced over the years.

In case you couldn’t tell I really love me some Carrie Underwood.

WATCH: Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift perform at the ACMA’s!

Posted in Performances on April 19th, 2010 by The Prophet

As two of the biggest winners of the night at the Academy of Country Music Awards, country queens Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood brought the house down when they teamed up together to perform a cover of the 1970′s classic “Travellin’ Band” with Brad Paisley on guitar and an appearance from the original performer of the song, John Fogerty.

The performances didn’t stop there though. Miranda returned to give a stunning performance of her new single “The House That Built Me”, which resulted in a Standing O from Nicole Kidman, and Carrie came out to deliver a flawless rendition of her #1 hit “Temporary Home”.

The Carrie video also features her tearful acceptance speech after being presented with the Triple Crown award by Reba McEntire.

Once again I just need to mention how much better the ACMA’s were than the Grammy’s.

Also hitting the stage was the biggest loser of the night Taylor Swift, who was on her best behavior after blowing it with her highly criticized performance at the Grammy’s, pulling out all the stops for her performance of “Change”. Tay-Tay came out in a cage suspended above the audience, had a costume change, crowd surfed and actually sung very well, proving that when she puts in the effort she can actually hold her own on stage.

Great work all round from some very talented young ladies!

ACM AWARDS: Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert win big; Taylor Swift tanks!

Posted in Candids, News on April 19th, 2010 by The Prophet

Unlike the living hell that was this years Grammy’s, tonight’s Academy of Country Music Awards actually managed to get things right, so that means there weren’t any songwriting awards given out to ghostwritten frauds, and no vocalist trophies handed out to girls who can’t sing.

Leading the pack were country trio Lady Antebellum who won three awards, taking home Single and Song of the year for their smash “Need You Now”, as well as Vocal Group of the Year.

Equal with Lady A was my absolute favorite country singer Miranda Lambert who took home three awards; Video of the Year for her hit “White Liar”, Top Female Vocalist of the Year, and Album of the Year for her critically acclaimed  chart topper Revolution.

The next big winner of the night was my guilty pleasure Carrie Underwood, who made history by winning Entertainer of the Year for the second consecutive year in a row, making her the first female to ever win the award twice. She was also given the Triple Crown award for her triple victory at last years ACMA awards.

Meanwhile Grammy princess Taylor Swift, who was nominated for five awards, went home with a big fat zero.

Other winners of the night included Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan.

Carrie Underwood scores her ninth #1 and reveals next single

Posted in News on March 30th, 2010 by The Prophet

Carrie Underwood has found a “Temporary Home” at the top of the Billboard country charts this week after her new single reached the top spot after 18 weeks, making it the fastest rise to the top for any country single released this year.

“Temporary Home” is the ninth country #1 of Carries career, and her 12th #1 overall if you include all formats. The ballad is also steadily climbing up the Hot 100 and has so far reached #41. {source}

Now that “Temporary Home” has climbed the country music summit it’s time to move on to the next single from her Platinum certified album Play On, which looks likely to be the pop-rock influenced “Undo It”. {source}

I like “Undo It” but I think it’s a bit of a re-hash of several of her previous singles like “Last Name” and “Before He Cheats”, so I was hoping that her next up-tempo single would be the poppy Max Martin produced “Quitter” or the breezy “This Time” instead.

Anyways check out a clip of “Undo It” below which shows Carrie talking about the song and how mean she thinks it is. As if Carrie Underwood could ever really be mean.

Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood all lead ACM nominations

Posted in News on March 2nd, 2010 by The Prophet

The nominations for the 45th annual Academy of Country Music Awards were revealed on Tuesday (March 2), and unlike the recent Grammy Awards the ACM’s have actually managed to get things right.

Leading the pack with a whopping seven nominations is chart topping country trio Lady Antebellum, who received five noms alone for their crossover smash hit “Need You Now”. The bands other two nominations were for Top Vocal Group and for Album of the Year for their sophomore effort Need You Now, which has already sold 1.1 million copies in the US alone after only four weeks of release.

Following Lady A with six nominations is my favorite Miranda Lambert, who got four noms for her hit “White Liar”, as well as Top Female Vocalist and Album of the Year for Revolution.

Also with six nominations is Carrie Underwood, who nabbed an album of the year nom for Play On and is also up for the prestigious Entertainer of the Year award. If she wins the award again Carrie will be the first female in ACM history to win it twice.

Carrie’s also up for her fourth straight Top Female Vocalist award – an award she’s won every year since 2007.

Trailing slightly behind Carrie and Miranda is Grammy princess Taylor Swift, who’s up for five nominations including Entertainer of the Year, Top Female Vocalist and Song of the Year.

I haven’t been this excited for an awards show since… ever! Miranda’s “White Liar” has to get song of the year!

Carrie Underwood & Daughtry rock the Super Bowl

Posted in Performances on February 7th, 2010 by The Prophet

American Idol royalty Carrie Underwood and Daughtry were snapped together last night attending the Creative Arts Agency Superbowl Party in Miami, Florida.

The pair are both in town for Super Bowl related performances; Daughtry performed his single “Life After You” at the Tailgate Party, whilst Carrie got the honor of singing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the actual game.

Whilst everybody was impressed by Carries powerhouse vocals, others were just shocked that Daughtry had finally grown some hair.

Check out both fantastic performances below.

Carrie Underwood to make her feature film debut

Posted in News on February 4th, 2010 by The Prophet

After wowing fans with her acting skills in her music videos such as “Just a Dream” and “Temporary Home”, country singer Carrie Underwood is ready to take the next step in her acting career by starring in her first feature film.

The indie-drama titled “Soul Surfer” is based on the life of teen surfing champ and shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton.

The movie will be shot by schlocky director Sean McNamara (Raise Your Voice, Bratz: The Movie), and will alongside Underwood will star Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid. {source}

Carrie has been appropriately cast as a church youth leader, which shouldn’t be much of a stretch for the singer of “Jesus, Take The Wheel”.

Soul Surfer won’t be the first time Carrie has acted though, with the 26-year-old recently shooting an episode of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, as well as recently starring in her own variety show which included a bunch of cheesy skits.

If Carrie’s acting in this new movie is half as good as her “Temporary Home” video then you can count me in!
