NBA All-Stars performances: Shakira, Alicia Keys and Usher!

Posted in Performances on February 15th, 2010 by The Prophet

Some of musics biggest stars were out today for the appropriately titled NBA All-Stars game in Texas.

Kicking it all off was Usher who performed “More”, “She Don’t Know” and “Yeah” at the pre-game opener, followed by sexy Shakira who shook her way through “She Wolf” and “Give It Up To Me”, and then Alicia Keys who followed Shaki with “Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart”, “Empire State of Mind” and “No One”.

Which one was your favorite? I liked them all!

Ryan Tedder gives Cheryl Cole an Alicia Keys leftover and takes a swipe at Britney

Posted in Beef, News on January 25th, 2010 by The Prophet

My loyal reader Yumm showed me this article yesterday, but I held off on posting it because at the time I had already done two Ryan Tedder posts in a row.

Anyways Ryan Tedder is back at it again, this time discussing Cheryl Cole’s upcoming US debut album which he has been heavily involved in, revealing that he’s anxious to get an Alicia Keys leftover song from The Element of Freedom in Cheryl’s hands

“There’s a song I did with Alicia Keys that was finished too late for her album and I’m convinced it’s the perfect song for Cheryl Cole,” he told Digital Spy.

“I’m desperately trying to get the demo out of her label’s grasp so I can play it for Cheryl. It’s a ballad in my sense, so it’s got massive drums and it really moves, and it’ll give you goosebumps when you hear it.”

It’s a ballad in “my sense”? So I assume we’ll be getting another recycled Halo/Already Gone beat then?

Continuing on, Tedder further discussed the sound he was after for Cheryl Cole; and made sure to take a stab at Britney Spears in the process.

“Cheryl likes something real,” he said. “I had a long meeting with the head of her label and he said she doesn’t want kitschy throwaway dance anthems – basically if Britney would sing it, she doesn’t want it.”

If Britney’s songs are so kitschy then why are so many of her hits considered pop classics that are continually covered by more ‘credible’ artists such as Lily Allen, Kate Miller-Heidke, Hard-Fi, The Dresden Dolls and countless others? You can justifiably call Britney untalented and manufactured if you so choose, but at the end of the day she wouldn’t have reached her phenomenal success without at least having great songs.

First Tedder made catty remarks about Hilary Duff, then he roasted Kelly Clarkson and now Britney. Who’s next?

Anyways Alicia Keys was obviously smart enough to not hold onto Tedder ballad, so hopefully Cheryl has enough sense to do the same.

Alicia Keys performs, poses and promotes her new album around the world

Posted in Candids, News, Performances on January 14th, 2010 by The Prophet

Th beautiful Alicia Keys was snapped in Japan yesterday (pictured above) promoting her new album The Element of Freedom, which was just one stop of many on the R&B diva’s worldwide promotional tour.

Keys was also in France recently to perform the album cut “Distance & Time”, and on AOL sessions to give an amazing performance of “Unthinable (I’m Ready)”. Both can be viewed below.

AK will be releasing two new singles soon; “Empire State of Mind Part II” in Europe, and “Put It In a Love Song” featuring Beyonce for the US.

Despite first two singles “Doesn’t Mean Anything” and “Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart” crashing and burning Alicia’s album The Element of Freedom is doing quite well, this week reaching 840k in the US alone.

How much further do you think she can take the album?

Susan Boyle passes 3 million and crushes Mary J. Blige on the Billboard charts

Posted in News on December 30th, 2009 by The Prophet

Susan Boyle shows no signs of slowing down in her fourth week on the charts, with HitsDoubleDaily reporting that the Scottish singer is set to sell another 520k of her debut album I Dreamed a Dream, pushing her total sales to over 3 million copies in the States alone.

This may be good news for Auntie Susie, but it’s not so great for Mary J.Blige who’s new album Stronger With Each Tear now has to settle for a #2 debut with roughly 340k sold.

Alicia Keys, who debuted last week at #2 with her new album The Element of Freedom, stands at #3 with 270-280k, down just slightly from last week’s 417k bringing her two-week total close to 700k.

Carrie Underwood is also set to sell another 150k of her third album Play On, which is easily enough to give the album a Platinum certification for sales of over 1 million.

Susan has now destroyed MJB and AK, and it looks like Taylor Swift will be her next victim because the two are currently neck-and-neck for the top selling album of 2009. Good on her!

Susan Boyle continues to crush her competition… Alicia Keys misses the #1 album for the first time in her career

Posted in News on December 22nd, 2009 by The Prophet

The numbers for this weeks chart are in from HitsDoubleDaily, which see Alicia Keys exceeding sales expectations with her fourth album The Element of Freedom selling 405k to land at #2 on the Billboard 200.

However the high numbers weren’t good enough to beat Billboard’s baddest bitch Susan Boyle who sold another 659k of her debut I Dreamed a Dream, bringing her US total album sales to 2.4 million in only four weeks.

The Element of Freedom’s failure to miss the #1 position on the charts makes it’s Alicia’s first album to do so, with her MTV Unplugged album even managing to accomplish the feat back in 2005. Alicia is now even with Britney Spears for the most consecutive #1 albums since debut, both with four each.

HitsDoubleDaily are never 100% accurate so we don’t know the exact numbers yet, but 405k is pretty good for someone who just had two flop singles. Whether or not she can sustain them though it another question.

Alicia Keys performs mini-concert on BET’s 106 & Park

Posted in Interviews, Performances on December 16th, 2009 by The Prophet

My fave Alicia Keys hit up BET’s 106 & Park today to promote her new album The Element of Freedom, which has been predicted to sell between 330-350k in it’s first week of release.

If the predictions prove to be accurate then Keys will clearly miss the #1 spot which belongs to Susan Boyle who’s set to sell another 500-600k. This will mark the singers first album to miss the top spot, which includes her MTV Unplugged which went to #1 back in 2005.

Anyways back to BET, Alicia performed four songs on the show including her old hit “No One”, “Empire State Of Mind (Part II)”, her new single “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart”, and my personal fave “Un-thinkable (I’m Ready)” which you can peep above.

She also sat down for a chat with the excruciating Rosci & Terrence, where she spilled the tea on Jay-Z, Beyonce and her new album.

Check out all the action below the cut.

PERFORMANCES: Alicia Keys & Leona Lewis

Posted in Performances on December 16th, 2009 by The Prophet

My girl Alicia Keys was on The Colbert Report last night to perform “Empire State of Mind Part II” from her just-released album The Element of Freedom.

Colbert also joined in and started rapping, but I can’t stand him so I didn’t find it funny at all.

Also out flogging their new album was the sweeter-than-sugar Leona Lewis, who performed her second single “I Got You”. The song was sent out to radio last week, so it’ll be interesting to see how it goes.

Alicia Keys covers JET magazine

Posted in Photoshoots on December 7th, 2009 by The Prophet

The beautiful Alicia Keys is on the cover of the latest issue of JET magazine promoting her new album The Element of Freedom which hits stores December 15.

The album has already leaked online and I was wondering what everybody thought of it so far. I haven’t listened to it properly yet because I only just found the retail leak yesterday so I can’t say anything yet. I’m a massive AK stan, so I’m curious to see how it stacks up to her previous efforts.

Alicia Keys & Beyonce “Put it In a Love Song”

Posted in New Music on December 4th, 2009 by The Prophet

Two of the world biggest female artists, Alicia Keys and Beyonce, have teamed up for “Put it In a Love Song”, a new diva duet from AK’s upcoming fourth album The Element of Freedom.

The catchy uptempo sounds a lot more like a Beyonce song than an Alicia one, so much so that it could pass for “Single Ladies Part 2″. It’s definitely a brand new side of Alicia that we haven’t seen before, but she did say that she was experimenting with new sounds so I guess this is one of them.

It’s a great tune and it should end up being a big hit for both of them. I just hope that the sound is organic and not something that AK did to help salvage her new album which seems to be getting off to a slow start in comparison to her previous efforts.

Alicia Keys performs on X Factor & announces UK tour

Posted in Performances on November 29th, 2009 by The Prophet

Singer, songwriter, performer, musician. And actress. Alicia Keys performed a medley of her hits on X Factor tonight, belting out “Empire State of Mind”, “Doesn’t Mean Anything”, and “No One” on the popular talent show, whilst noticeably leaving out her new single “Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart”.

Alicia’s new album The Element of Freedom drops on December 15, but I’m a little worried about the potential sales since “Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart” hasn’t gone any higher than #58 on the Hot 100.

In other news AK will be hitting the UK for a tour. If you’re over there I definitely recommend you go because I was front row at the Sydney show of her As I Am tour, and it was honestly the best tour I’ve ever been to in my life. It’s well worth the money!
