Stanning for B1A4′s “Tried to Walk”

I’ve been teetering on the edge of becoming a B1A4 stan for a while now. Their debut song, “O.K.”, hooked me instantly, but I pushed the band aside when they followed it up with the Engrish-language trainwreck, “Beautiful Target”. They then returned and slayed me with “Baby I’m Sorry”, slayed me again with “Baby Good Night”, and now with the release of their new single, “Tried to Walk”, it’s official: I’m now a B1A4 fanboy.
“Tried to Walk” was once again written and composed by B1A4 leader Jinyoung, with a co-write from rapper Baro. It’s a lush eurodance ballad that could’ve easily been a BIGBANG single — think “Monster” or “Haru Haru”. There’s a lot of similarities between B1A4 and BIGBANG, especially in the way that both groups are able to inject a lot of emotion into highly-commercial, radio-friendly pop music.
The official music video is gorgeous, although I didn’t quite understand the storyline — I think Baro’s girlfriend died or something. Or maybe it was all just a metaphor for the end of their relationship. Whatever the hell was going on, Baro was sexy, the video was stunning, and B1A4 gave me major closet envy with their stylish winter fashions. Can these fancy K-pop stylists please come to my house and rearrange my wardrobe for free? Whenever I see SHINee, B2ST, or TVXQ, I just wanna burn everything I own.
Judging by its solid performance so far on the Instiz iChart, “Tried to Walk” is going to be pretty big for B1A4, and deservedly so. With the exception of “Beautiful Target”, they’ve been one of the most consistently good boy bands to debut since last year, and they’re one of the very few that are actually involved in the writing and production of their music. They’re quite versatile when it comes to concepts, too, so added up, they’re the total package.
