Sober rockstar Kid Cudi covers Complex
My formerly out of control husband Kid Cudi is the October cover boy for Complex, marking his third cover in three years for the magazine.
Cudi’s last interview with the mag — published last year to promote his sophomore album Man on the Moon II — caused a media firestorm after Cudi dissed Wale, opened up about his cocaine use, and talked about getting kicked off Lady GaGa’s Monster Ball tour. Now that Cudi’s relatively sober, his latest interview isn’t quite so scandalous. Mr. Rager admits to disappearing after the release of MOTM2 to take some personal time for himself, reveals he’s patched things up with Wale, is back with his girlfriend, learned the guitar as a hobby to keep him occupied after getting off drugs, and is now focusing on acting and his new Wizard rock album.
“I know people are standoffish about this rock project,” he tells Complex, surprisingly coherently. “But we know what we’re doing. We’re definitely not gonna let anybody down because we’re sitting there for hours on end perfecting it, making sure it sounds right, making sure it has those melodies, and making sure it has those hooks that people love. You know, stuff you can carry with you day to day.“
Aww, my hubby is so mature and grown up now, preparing to bless us all with a catchy and alternative rock album!
Cudi’s Wizard album is tentatively due out late this year, and Man on the Moon III is scheduled for a 2012 release. Although Cudi isn’t really promoting MOTM2 anymore, a couple of weeks ago he dropped a violent music video for the album track “Mr. Rager”. It’s fairly brilliant and better than all other videos this year, other than JLo’s “Papi” of course, so check it out.
