SNSD producer E-Tribe contacts Lady GaGa’s label over “Born this Way” plagiarism claims.

The internet has been abuzz for the past day over even more plagiarism claims surrounding Lady GaGa’s chart topper “Born this Way”. The single has already been accused of ripping off both Carl Bean’s “I Was Born this Way” and Madonna’s “Express Yourself”, but now there’s yet another song to add to the list with SNSD’s “Be Happy”. I ignored these reports when they first surfaced because the whole GaGa plagiarism thing has been done to death (for the time being, at least), but now the actual producer of “Be Happy”, E-Tribe, has come forward to acknowledge the striking similarities between the two tracks, even going as far to admit that he’s planning to contact GaGa’s label about the issue.
“Someone this morning told me that there were reports of Lady Gaga plagiarizing SNSD’s ‘Be Happy.’ I listened, and I do feel that there are similarities. The way the song flows and the arrangements are, honestly, the same. I am currently working to get in contact with Lady Gaga’s publishing label to find further information.” [Source]
E-Tribe is one of the best known hitmakers in K-Pop, having crafted catchy chart toppers from some of the country’s biggest artists like SNSD (“Gee”), Lee Hyori, T-ara, Super Junior, and Se7en.
Whether or not anything comes of these latest plagiarism claims remains to be seen, but if the case goes any further, then it’s guaranteed to attract a whirlwind of publicity. SNSD (also known as Girls’ Generation) are Korea’s most successful girl group at the moment, and leaders in the K-Pop wave: They were recently ranked by Forbes as Korea’s most powerful celebrity, their musical success extends beyond their own country into Japan and other parts of Asia, they have major endorsement deals with the likes of Domino’s Pizza, Intel, Nintendo, and Dior Cosmetics, and their huge popularity has even spawned international coverage from Billboard.com and other media outlets.
GaGa can’t catch a break with this “Born this Way” drama! Well, except for the song’s record breaking success…
