Shontelle pushes album back to work with Darkchild.

In the wake of the huge success of her ballad “Impossible”, Bajan underdog Shontelle has pushed her album No Gravity back by almost a month to September 14, in order to pack in some last minute recording sessions. According to her Twitter, she’s been in the studio writing and recording with Darkchild, who I assume is trying to find her a future hit now that her career prospects are looking a lot more positive.

The good news regarding the push back is that Shontelle will no longer have to face up against Katy Perry on August 24, but the bad news is that “Impossible” is bound to have descended down the charts by then. The song is still currently sitting at it’s peak position of #13 on the Hot 100 for the second week in a row, and is #16 on iTunes, but it’s started to drop on radio a little over the past few weeks. Hopefully the second single (tentatively scheduled as “No Gravity” but subject to change) can prevent the Shontelle train from running out of steam.

In other news, the Chew-Fu club mix of “Licky” is amazing. <3

i’ve noticed that you seem to like a lot of remixes lately, proph?

    awesome.

everyone thought Impossible was the worst single choice for shontelle but she beat the odds. team shontelle!

I thought Impossible was a good ballad, she’s just no Beyonce… good luck to her tho she’s captured the imagination of label bosses and they may give her a shot. Good she doesn’t have to face off with Katy, that would have slowed down the momentum.

She seems to do alright with these kinda slow songs..Tshirt did alright for her now impossible..she needs to stop trying to be like rihanna and she will be fine..

i don’t know. i liked licky and impossible, but no gravity is just boring to me … and i don’t think that it will be good for her sales if she pushes the release date back. i don’t see her going to number 1, so she could’ve also released it the same day as katy …

Hmm, I’m not sure. I don’t think she’s a strong sales artist in general (see: Shontelligence). But with the fact that Impossible is doing great, the momentum could keep up. No Gravity, I just can’t get with.

She needs more urban songs, not the pop-lite stuff.

ehhhh, I sort of think this was a fluke and that she shouldn’t have pushed back the album. yeah the song did well but I don’t think anyone’s waiting for the next SHONTELLE song. they just heard something like they liked, it didn’t really stick out particularly. she wasn’t like Lady GaGa or Ke$ha’s first single where that was something recognizable, it was just this nice song. but good luck to her, I don’t like her much but I do love rooting for the underdogs.

  • What What

Impossible with more air play (she doesn’t have a payola budget) would def gone top 5, maybe even no 1. It is a great song. If her fans would request it it could actually climb higher than 13

I think the point of working with Darkchild and pushing back the album is so that “No Gravity” won’t have to be a single. I doubt it will be at this point. The next single is going to come from her sessions with Darkchild.

    I agree with Jeff
But she really did beat the odds with this single because who would have thought that a ballad would make it that far up the charts??? (Well, Christina did [an amazing ballad at that]) I’m just hoping her new album will be better cause her last one was inconsistent

I’m on the fence with this artist. She’s ok. They shouldn’t keep pushing a release date back they should keep coming with singles whilst she has some attention because she is not remarkable but she has had some flukey luck with this track. Look at Katy, Bang bang bang singles out… attention – I mean she is in another league but they wont stop this flow until she’s maxed out.

Shontelle, you can do no wrong now that you’ve released Perfect Nightmare!
