Shakira works the pole in “Rabiosa” music video

Shakira’s now up to the third single (not including “Waka Waka”) from her latest album Sale el Sol. “Loca” was a big hit, but the follow-up title track “Sale el Sol” was a bit of a flop, so Shakira’s pulling out all the stops to make sure her next offering “Rabiosa” goes down well.

The majority of the song’s music video follows Shakira as she has a ball (literally) at an underground party. She’s dressed modestly enough, rocking a cute green dress paired with a dainty brunette wig. The rest of the video consists of seemingly unrelated scenes of a now bleach blonde Shaki twirling around a stripper pole in her bra & panties, bending over and opening her legs like a Thai hooker. I figured I must be missing something, like how the raunchy “She Wolf” video was supposed to symbolize a woman’s repressed sexuality fighting to escape, but after a couple of viewings I still couldn’t come to any deep conclusions or hidden metaphors behind Shakira’s slutastic pole dance.

She looks hot, but this type of skanky trash is better left to my girl Rihanna, or at least a 60-year-old Madonna trying to prove to the world that she’s still hip and sexy.

    no just no, I’m a big fan of her but the stripper pole just no, I think she looks freaking hot but NO!!!     Rabiosa is having Rabies, but obviously shes not singing that, you can say it to mean that you’re wild and out of control.

    The point of being RABIOSA is being experimental and sexy. I thought the video served its purpose. It perfectly suits the lyrics of the song, especially in spanish “oye mami vuelvete loca aruname la espalda y muerdeme la boca”:

    Heaps of people are seriously overreacting to this. If you actually look at the pole scenes is it Pole dancing? NO. It’s pretty much just Shakira on a pole, BELLYDANCING, not cavorting like a slut. She just walks around and does a few of her snakey bellydancing moves which is typical Shakira and one split at the end. I don’t find it horrible at all. I find this a lot more watchable than She Wolf was. Clearly biased in your blog.

    The difference between SHakira and trashdonna and trashanna is that Shakira actually has talent and can sing, and can be sexy without being slutty.

    I think it’s a great song and a great effort for her latest video.

    And SES was actually a LatinAmerican release, and it charted well there, so no flop? Plus you neglected to realise that she actually did NO televised performances since the release of SES, hence not charttopping everywhere. In fact, the TOTAL amount of televised performance of ANY sale el sol album cut performance since its release in october 19 adds to less than 10. So SES and Loca did pretty well considering.

    Totally agreed. Some people always just assume that shakira is a “whore” or uses her body to sell music because of her moves. SEriously, move on. Its not that risque and is exactly what the song is. Have you noticed in sentimental songs, shakira is sentimental in the music videos? ie cough cough Sale El Sol?
    ALL shakira’s videos are a REFLECTION of the song. IE SHakira was acting crazy in Loca, hence the craziness in the video and less skin showed because it wasn’t about being RAbiosa. It was about being Loca.
    Hips don’t lie was about her hips, hence lots of bellydancing. Illegal is about cheating, hence sentimental scenes.
