Shakira working on new bilingual album with Pharrell Williams!

It was already announced last year that Shakira would drop a Spanish album in 2010 after the release of She Wolf, similar to what she did with Oral Fixation Volumes 1 & 2, but now it looks like the album is shaping up to be more of a bilingual project after Shakira announced that she had penned some English tracks with Pharrell.

“Pharrell is really great. We have lots of chemistry together.

“I learnt a lot from him when we worked on my last album ‘She Wolf’. He’s so fast in the studio, whereas I’m usually so slow. I take so much time on one decision; I go in circles sometimes, whereas he is very immediate.”

She explained: “I’d already written half of this album and it was always the plan to release a Spanish album next. I’ve felt very inspired in the last month, so I went for it. I started writing some material in English, too, which I’m going to use on this album.” {source}

Shakira also confirmed the same news during a recent German interview:

“With this next album that I’m preparing right now, it’s gonna have Spanish songs and English songs as well, and also some Latin songs. Yeah, already working [on my new album].”

Shakira generally releases her Spanish albums separately to her English ones and then just promotes them in Latin America, but after the underwhelming US sales of She Wolf could she perhaps be working on a bilingual album that she plans to release and promote universally?

Producer Lester Mendez recently tweeted that he’s been finishing off some new songs for Shaki, so it’s a pretty much a done deal that we’ll be getting a new album from her this year. I just wonder what type of album it will be exactly.

I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed for another She Wolf because I thought it was a great pop record that really went to waste due to some very poor timing issues.

    Such a shame She Wolf went to the shitter, but that’s what happens when you release every track except the REALLY obvious one.

    Clue for the dummies: it’s “Men In This Town”.

    WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!

    “Shakira generally releases her Spanish albums separately to her English ones and then just promotes them in Latin America”

    Not really. With the exception of the oral fixation albums laundry service for example had spanish songs tacked on at the end, same as with the spanish version servicio de lavanderia which had english songs at the end.

    Hate it when singers release albums with 2 languages.It just doesn’t give me an album-feeling then. And I hate it when I don’t understand the language.
    She wolf was hot btw!

    amazing..I was hoping for the spanish one actually She Wolf was a bilingual album at the start, so maybe she turn around and relased now..I just hope to listen the Gustavo Cerati and Calle 13 collaborations in spanish.

    I loved Oral Fixation Volumes 1 & 2. If the new album is like that im sold.

    I just can’t get into her Spanish music besides La Tortura and No.

    Oral Fixation Vol. 2 was a great album and She Wolf was a good album despite the shortness and the rehased spanish tracks.

    Laundry Service will always be my favorite, but it’s really laughable to listen to now that I’ve seen the Mad TV spoof of Whenever, Wherever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sea2hkKW26I&feature=related

    she wolf is a really solid effort. shame it’s under appreciated. but things happen… i hope she bounces back with another solid album, regardless of the languages.

    I’m so excited for this!!! I’ can’t speak spanish at all, but I still love Shakira’s voice in spanish!

    I’ve listened to “Lo Hecho Está Hecho” more than “Did It Again”!!!!!! lol

    I love me some goddamn Shakira! I still play her last album. “Long Time” is just the epitome of sexy and “Men In This Town” has some sort of catchy ring to it as well. I’ll be checking for anything she comes out with, with her age-defying ass.

    @Pez

    But her first albums were just popular in latin america, and the spanish songs on laundry service were more like tacked on at the end I felt, and not truly a bilingual album.

    And even though the spanish oral fixation came out in america they weren’t promoted their as much.

  • Carlos

    haha I don’t knw what the hell she means, ever since laundry service, all her albums have been bilingual, there are song versions of both english and spanish..its just more of the same thing, still amazing, but I don’t know what the hell she means by bilingual if she’s done it before..
    she could just have an album all in english but in the end, the label wants to appeal/sell to all markets so they tack spanish versions so that it sells in latin america as well, same deal she will be doing..its a shame she wolf was not that successful, its truly amazing

  • Carlos

    she wolf could’ve reallybeen big, but the release of the album was not favorable, the single spent several weeks at 11, if she would’ve released it around that time, it owuld;ve probably hit the top 5 at least, but no, she releases it in november when the hype if all gone..but..anyway…whatever happens..

    I think she means more like a proper bilingual album that will be promoted in the States and stuff. Like a Laundry Service or She Wolf but with more Spanish songs instead of the majority just being english with a few spanish tracks glued onto the end.

  • HUH?

    I don’t like the idea of the new bilingual album at all. I liked the She Wolf album, but I’ve been dying for her to make an all Spanish album. I think it being bilingual takes away from both languages. She needs to just go ahead and make the full-Spanish album like she originally said.
