Shakira goes back to basics for new LP – due September.

Not wasting any time since the release of She Wolf, sexpot Shakira has confirmed to Billboard that her next studio album will hit stores this September. The as-yet-untitled album will be bilingual and may even feature her new World Cup single “Waka Waka” (which just debuted at #44 on the Hot 100).

“I see it [the new album] as having two currents,” she says. “One is a lot about love and love experiences and emotions. And the other side of it is very joyful, and upbeat.”

Shakira also revealed that the music on her upcoming set would reflect influences from both the Dominican Republic and Colombia. “It’s a little more Latin on one side and a little more rock ‘n roll on the other side,” she says.

Known producers on the new disc include Shakira’s She Wolf collaborators Lester Mendez and The Neptunes, as well as Jim Jonsin, who recently described the album as “edgy pop” and having “dance records” in a similar vibe to “Whenever, Wherever”.

After the electronic/dance-pop sound of She Wolf failed on the charts (I think due to mishandled promotion and bad timing), Shakira sounds like she’s going back to basics in a bid to top the charts again.

Now clap your hands three times if you thought She Wolf kicked ass and should have done really well.

SHE WOLF KICKED MAJOR ASS, & SHOULD HAVE DONE EXTREMELY WELL!! I’m mad it didn’t do well, now she’s gone limit her credit direction as a artist & stay in the same mold that she started in :/ . Like I said, “DID IT AGAIN” SHOULD’VE BEEN 2ND SINGLE (maybe the remix w/ Kid Cudi for the US, & the regular for international), & then “Men in This Town” should’ve been yes. BUT YASSS FOR THE NEXT ALBUM IN SEPTEMBER!

I really thought She Wolf would of done better then what it did…it was a pretty good album

  • Hotness

    “Back to the basics”?

    CIARA much?

    Bitch bye.

  • Lashae

I love She Wolf. It was one of my favorite albums of ’09. I can’t wait for her new LP

  • Luanne

    LMAO @ HotMess

How can you even compare Ciara and Shakira? That’s ridiculous.

She wolf was badass. The singles releassed from it “She Wolf” “Did it again” and “Gypsy” all had new and fresh dance sounds. the videos for it especially “She Wolf” was something edgy, sexii, but somehow not trashy. Just the timing was wrong. She wolf came out so early and the cd took such a long time to come out that the energy it had created died down that by the end nobody cared. BUT I LOVED IT LOL

yeah… Shakira is in a league of her own. She Wolf may not have done exceptionally well in the US, but all over the world she is LOOOVVVEEEEDDDDD. Shakira has always had all the spanish speakers at her feet, like you have no idea. Can’t wait for new material.

  • Craver

“She Wolf” was THE SHIET. Honestly, I loved the album. If Rihanna’s “Te Amo” and Gaga’s “Alejandro” are doing well, Shakira’s entire album should have blown up. Smfh.

  • Lashae

    @Hotness shut up.

  • TJ

Look, all I needed to know is that the Neptunes are going to be producing some of the cuts on the album…

*Puts in headphones and plays “Lo Hecho Esta Hecho” for the 3000th time*

‘She Wolf’ is amazing! Don’t play.

    clapping my hands 3 times.
    the album kickes ass !!!
    LONG TIME
    DID IT AGAIN
WHY WAIT & my personal favorite SPY which i think should have been the 2nd single in US and not Give It To Me that i knew was HUGE mistake.(not to mention Gypsy and Did It Again as international)

  • the m

but i must say i am extremely happy there will be new Shakira album in september with possible new single in late july after world cup ends.
this is amazing news for shakiras fans.
after all she wolf didnt bomb that much,it simply wasnt big as her previous works.
i say not having huge success is good for artist.
u go back in studio and release even better material.
its good for creativity and amazing for fans :)

  • ImHighPrice

“She Wolf” is an amazing album that had absolutely NO fillers & I wished it did extremely well so she would do more amazing albums like this.

    @hotness

I’m a Ciara stan but please don’t try it with that…you sound like a Rih stan.

  • Travis

    SHE WOLF NEVER DIED!!!!

  • dracomason

She Wolf is my favaorite album form 2009.And I say “is” cuse I still listen to it.It didn’t meet up with expectaions (sales wise) cause of the shitty Give It Up To Me mess and it’s release date’s delay in the US
I hope the Neptunes have 1 or 2 tracks at most this time around, though. The guy who produced She Wolf and Men In This Town should contribute more in this album. And the fact that they might include Waka Waka makes me even more excited cause it’s my jam.
Tracks like Mon Amour should also be there,as it was my favorite song from She Wolf.
As Travis said *claps hands 3 times*
    SHE WOLF NEVER DIED xD

  • JayCred

What a shame. I loved that album and I would have loved to see Good Stuff and Long Time released, the Neptunes owned that shit! Excited for a new album though.

  • TBizzness

Clap Clap Clap Bomb Ass Album. Listened to it constantly for months.

  • Cardio Rodeo

This is a bad case of good album/bad marketing. I don’t know what it is with these record companies but they refuse to really promote alot of these albums to “xyz”. I think it’s a shame that She Wolf didn’t do as good as it should have because I believe it was one of the best album of 2009. Like the album really wasn’t given the chance and their was alot of hidden gems on the album. It’s a shame but the good news is that the new album is coming in Septemeber so that’s the good news.

  • Jsse

SHE WOLF WAS GOOD!!! Loved most of the songs, been a fan since i can remember, I grew up listining to her, and it was a DAMN shame the didnt promote the album well. Someone should have been fired! I just hate it I hope she dose something like that again and dose better promotion.

  • dstorey

Bad marketing =( she coulda made a sexy ass video with good stuff and long time instead of give it up to me and gypsy!!! mon amour and men in this town are amazing too!!! too bad the 2 worst songs got picked

  • Savannah

She Wolf was actually her best album ever! I’m not even excited about this new Spanish album because, it kind of seems unfair to me. Like she does her best music and puts her greatest emotions into her Spanish stuff. Yeah, I like the pop, but I like the ones that have meaning too. Besides, why act like the Spanish people are best?

  • Holly

The She Wolf album actually made me like Shakira. The only song I like before was Hips Don’t lie. Actually my best friend pinned me down and made me listen to this album ‘cuz she’s like obsessed with that woman. But yeah, love the songs. THIS ALBUM MADE HER! Unfair how everyone acts like it sucks! Favorite song from it: Give It Up to Me. You gotta hear Lil Wayne’s voice rasping!

yeah but, you know,  her fans are mostly people who started following her when she was a sad black-haired songwriter.. her change is hard to accept for those who’ve been listeting to her music when she was so different from typical american popstars (blonde, bottom-shaking and low quality music). However, she wolf is not half as good as any other of her albums.

  • cesco_o

that’s not true :)  ..oral fixation vol.2 is entirely in english, and yet it is her best album (IMHO)

  • cesco_o

the most autotuned she wolf ever…
