SECRET make the sexiest comeback of 2012 with “POISON”

SECRET have been one of my absolute favorite girl groups since the second I first laid eyes on them, which is why witnessing their actions over the past year has been so frustrating. Much like Girl’s Day, SECRET destroyed their fast-rising momentum by vanishing from the K-Pop scene this year to focus on promoting in Japan, even though Japan seems to have little interest in them. Meanwhile, SISTAR stayed in Korea and built upon their success with back-to-back releases, which is exactly why they’re one of the top girl groups in K-Pop right now.

SECRET should be on the level of SISTAR right now, but instead they’re still mid-tier when they’ve got everything it takes to be slaying some of K-Pop’s biggest girl groups (2NE1 and f(x) I’m lookin’ at you overrated hoes).

But enough of my complaining. SECRET have finally made their comeback with a new single called “POISON”, and yes, it was definitely worth the wait.

Produced by longtime SECRET hitmakers Kang Jiwon and Kim Kibum, “POISON” harks back to SECRET’s Beyonce-copying hit “Madonna”, but it’s not another blatant clone track like “Madonna” was to “Magic”. It’s just as bold and brassy as we’ve come to expect from SECRET’s uptempo singles, but “POISON” is darker and sexier than anything they’ve ever done before. It’s got a killer sax riff, and for once, Zinger finally gets a chance to really rap like the fierce kween that she is after being overlooked on so many of SECRET’s past hits.

SECRET’s music videos have always been fantastic, but the “POISON” visual has really obliterated my soul into a million little pieces. That probably has something to do with my bias Hyosung taking the starring role and stealing the show. Hyo has always been one of the hottest, sexiest, most bad ass bitches in all of K-Pop, and she should be a HyunA level star, but she’s always had to take a backseat to Ji Eun’s solo career. Now that Ji Eun’s been dragged kicking and screaming to the sidelines where she belongs, Hyosung is shining on her own and snatching every worthless wig in the game with her huge bouncing bewbs and bodacious behind.

Can your faves?

Hyosung aside, the sassy retro-themed video has SECRET playing glamorous jewel thieves and follows them as they execute an intricate robbery and then dispose of the detective who has the evidence to put them away. It’s pure sex, with the members channeling Beyonce yet again with endless booty shaking and pussy popping, and at one point they even get their Dal☆Shabet on by gunning a few guys down.

After goddess Hyosung, Zinger is the second best thing about the video. I’m guessing that SECRET’s Japanese activities were just a smokescreen for Zinger to get the Narsha/Hara plastic surgery special, because homegirl looks incredible.

Finally, SECRET’s two most underrated members have taken their rightful positions at the front of the group!

“POISON” has given me everything I wanted from SECRET, and with a few more comebacks like this, they could surpass Brown Eyed Girls as K-Pop’s sexiest girl group. I just hope that we don’t have to wait almost a year to see them again, because a world without back-to-back SECRET comebacks is not a world that I want to be a part of.

Surprised you didn’t say anything about Kween Sunhwa being a flop 0.0

  • theprophetblog

Yeah it so does! A lot of their upbeat stuff is clearly inspired by both Beyonce and Amerie.

Sunhwa is hilarious. I know she’s the fave of no-one but I died whe she cried on WGM when she discovered KwangHee was her husband. gotta love her.

They are definitely similar to SISTAR as they’re also a 4-membered girl group who are capable of not just going the cute route. However, Secret doesn’t have a really glaring weak member (Sunhwa is not that bad at singing and she gets a nice amount of lines). The composer or arranger of the song at least tries to get Zinger more lines and not make her raps seem out of place in the song. She even sings during their ballad songs. I like the fact that the girls are even in their performance abilities so they seem like a group.

Sunhwa looked so faded in the background in the MV. I wish she could get back the black hair that she had in “Madonna”. I think she looked really hot then.

Zinger & After School’s Raina get the award for best transformations of 2012! I mean DAMN Zing!

The song is an instant earworm, but the mv…total gay boner for Hyosung! I’ve loved her since “Mazick” but I’ve never wanted to go bi for her until now!

i’ve been listening to the poison mini ever since i saw this video. i’m really annoyed to the whole beyoncé wannabe approach to the lead single – they mention at least 3 songs on the lyrics – bitch please! *pukes* but if there’s one helpful thing k-pop’s done for me is to ignore lyrics and focus on music only.

and POISON is FANTASTIC!! so much it’s turned me into the SECRET stan i wasn’t before. their retro sound is very beuatiful and polished and not only in a poser way like JYP does for the wonder girls. i mean, when you listen to the non-single songs of their albums – they sound like REAL music, made with REAL instrumentation and performed by REAL singers.

not that i think the wonder girls and other groups aren’t real performers, but the thing i have sometimes with k-pop is how they focus on idolizing those artists, neglecting the greatest aspect about pop that is THE MUSIC!

i mean, I WOULD’VE LOVED to see TTS perform all those wonderful twinkle songs with a LIVE band instead of those stale SM backtracks. and t-ara’s DON’T LEAVE with that huge orchestra! pure pose when we all know that everything was dubbed [cept hwayoung, areum and - jaw drops - boram!].
