Enrique & Flopzinger get hot ‘n’ heavy in “Heartbeat” music video.

Posted in Music Videos on September 9th, 2010 by The Prophet

The sexiest, hottest, most mouth-watering man alive, Enrique Iglesias, and… Nicole Scherzinger, have hooked up together for the official music video for “Heartbeat” — the latest single from Enrique’s hit bilingual album Euphoria.

The song itself is what we here in Australia refer to as “crap”, but Enrique takes his shirt off in the music video, making it the greatest single of the year, thus far. The only downside to the clip is that nasty Nikki has gotten sticky fingers and blatantly stolen Kimberlegend Wyatt’s mind-blowing lighting effects from her far superior video, “Glaciers”. She probably wanted to copy the stunning volcano backdrop too, but Enrique and Flopzinger’s video budget didn’t really allow for such pricey special effects.

Anyway, check out Enrique looking hot below.

Ashlee & Jessica talk new albums.

Posted in News on September 9th, 2010 by The Prophet

The Simpson sisters are hoping to reignite their not-so-hot careers by returning to very thing that made them famous in the first place — music! The Prophet Blog has been closely tracking Ashlee’s return to pop since July, from when she first announced her intentions to record a fourth album to news that she had reunited with her Autobiography/I Am Me collaborator John Shanks. Now we have some brand new info on Ashlee’s upcoming “indie-folk” album, which she recently opened up about to Paper Magazine during an appearance at her sister Jessica’s New York fashion week show on Tuesday night (pictured above).

“I’m sticking around [in New York] to write music this week,” said Ashlee. “I do, I do,” she continued when asked if she knew the direction of the new record, “I see the light. But I’m definitely not spilling the beans just yet. It’s definitely a bit folky.”

“It had that feel,” she said when asked if the new sound was more folky than her hit ‘Piece of Me, “but I’m really going for it this time!” she continued. “Well, I’m always a kooky person, so you’re not going to lose that,” Ashlee says when asked if the music will retain the vibe of her hits like ‘La La’ and ‘Outta My Head’, “But for me, there’s an era of music that I miss and I wanna make that kind of music. The songs that we need to hear.”

And when asked if she had any dream musical collaborations, Ashlee replied: “I have to say Gwen Stefani is the new Blondie so I’d wanna do it with her. Or Karen O. I would die. Oh my God, if I got to meet Karen O I would die. Oh my God! I’ve grown up loving her. I’d paint my face like her. She’s my all-time really.”

Even better is that Ashlee said she has no acting plans at the moment, and her only other project right now is a “small, cool boutique-y” clothing line, so that means most of her focus will be on her music — where it should be!

Her less-talented sister (sorry Jess) is also working on new music, and has another Christmas album in the works. This will be Jessica’s second Christmas album, following 2004′s Rejoyce, which has sold 670k since it’s release. Jessica now joins Mariah Carey and Susan Boyle who are also recording holiday LP’s for release later this year.

Was I the only one who liked Jessica’s tragic dance-pop album, A Public Affair? “If You Were Mine” is still my guilty pleasure!

Paris Hilton drops “SuperMartxé” music video.

Posted in Music Videos on September 9th, 2010 by The Prophet

Remember how Paris Hilton had us all hyped by blabbing about filming a new music video in Ibiza? Well the cocaine-loving starlet forgot to mention one minor little detail — the music video wasn’t actually for her own song!

I guess we’ll be waiting a while long for that “Kylie-inspired sophomore album” then?

The music video in question is just a promo for nightclub chain ‘SuperMartxé’. Paris has no vocals on the dance song, and in the video she just walks around with a bunch of gorgeous models who are all better looking than she is.

Seriously, If I don’t get a follow-up to 2006′s flawless Paris soon then I’m gonna cut a bitch. I guess the heiress is too busy stashing drugs inside her vagina to worry about her fabulous  pop career.

Jesse McCartney returns with “Shake”.

Posted in New Music on September 9th, 2010 by The Prophet

Jesse McCartney made it OK for us to like him with the release of 2008′s successful Departure, and now after a little time out of the spotlight, the Bleeding Love hitmaker is back with a brand new single, “Shake”.

The first thing you’ll probably notice about “Shake” is that it sounds almost identical to the music from Departure, but really, that’s what makes it so good. While every other male urban-pop artist from Enrique to Taio Cruz to Usher has jumped on the dance music bandwagon, Jesse has stuck to what he knows best and just churned out another friendly R&B-tinged pop tune. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Right?

“Shake” is the first taste of Jesse’s upcoming fourth studio album, which has yet to be given a release date. Take a listen below.

Fantasia appears on ’106 & Park’.

Posted in Interviews, Performances on September 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

Fantasia Barrino continues to go from strength to strength since her recent suicide attempt, stopping by BET’s 106 & Park earlier today to perform two single’s from her successful comeback album, ‘Back to Me‘.

Fanny kicked off the performance with her top ten R&B hit “Bittersweet”, before belting out her second single, “Im Doin’ Me”. As usual she snatched and slayed, but by now that’s kind of a given. Personal problems aside, Fantasia generally always delivers when it comes to her live performances.

Besides performing, the 26-year-old also sat down for an interview with birdbrain hosts Terrence & Rosci, so if you can stomach those two basic bitches then you should give it a watch.

After debuting at No. 2 on last week’s Billboard charts, Fanny’s Back to Me album is set to slip to No. 5 this week with roughly 40k sold, which should bring her two week total up to somewhere around 157k.

Check out the soulful songstress in action under the cut.

Allison Iraheta dropped from Jive.

Posted in News on September 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

It’s a very sad day for Idol fans, with news breaking today that season 8 runner-up Allison Iraheta has been dropped from her record label Jive. Check out all the details below, via Entertainment Weekly.

“Allison Iraheta has parted ways with Jive Records, however she remains signed to 19 Recordings. Allison is currently on the road in the U.S. opening for Adam Lambert on the Glam Nation Tour,” a 19 spokesperson told EW.

19 Recordings is the label arm of 19 Entertainment, which produces Idol. The company has traditionally signed the winner and runner-up of each season of Idol (and occasionally one or two other finalists), then licensed their albums to a Sony Music label (Jive or RCA) for release; in August, 19 announced it would replace Sony Music with Universal Music Group as the label for artists from Idol‘s upcoming tenth season.

Although no official reason has been given for the split, it’s pretty clear that the droppage was due to the poor sales of Allison’s post-Idol debut, Just Like You. The album has only shifted about 104k since it’s release last December, while all three singles lifted from the set failed to chart.

It’s a real shame that Allison has been let go from Jive, for not only is she one of the greatest vocalists to come out of American Idol, but she also has what is arguably one of the best Idol debut singles of all time with the Max Martin-produced stomper “Friday I’ll Be Over You”. Luckily she’s still signed to 19 Entertainment, but even if she wasn’t, is it really that big of a deal? The girl only turned 18 this year, so with youth and talent on her side it shouldn’t be too hard for her to make a ‘comeback’ of sorts. And let’s face it, Allison Iraheta was never really a pop star like her debut album would lead you to believe — this girl is a rocker, and personally I can picture her fronting a kick-ass band in the future.

And even if it doesn’t work out, we’ll always have “Friday…”.

Rihanna unveils official “Only Girl” single artwork.

Posted in Photoshoots on September 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

Earlier today, Rap-Up unveiled the official artwork for Rihanna’s new Stargate-produced single “Only Girl (In the World)”.

Why she insists on wearing that big red wig, I’ll never know…

“Only Girl” will officially hit iTunes on September 21, while her fifth studio album ‘LOUD!’ is due in November. It’s going to be interesting to see if the song debuts at No. 1 on the Hot 100, and also whether or not Rihanna can finally score her first chart topping album.

In other Rih news, it’s been confirmed that Liam Neeson has joined the cast of her new film Battleship. There hasn’t been a whole lot of info about Rihanna’s role in the flick yet, but it turns out that she’s playing a weapons specialist and even got a giant gun tattooed (it’s fake of course) on her thigh. Pretty cool.

I whip my hair back ‘n’ forth, I whip my hair back ‘n’ forth!

Hot Track: Linkin Park – “Blackout”.

Posted in New Music on September 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

Linkin Park will release their fourth studio album A Thousand Suns in the United States on September 14, and with the release only days away, the album has found it’s way online early.

Below, you can check out my favorite cut from the record, “Blackout”. The aggressive, experimental number has frontman Chester Bennington bringing back the screaming vocals from 2007′s hit “Bleed It Out”, but this time they’ve been mixed with heavy doses of electronica, industrial rock & hip-hop, scratching and distorted guitar riffs.”Blackout” has enough of the classic Linkin Park angst and vocal stylings to feel familiar to fans, but also treads enough new ground to feel fresh and different to their past work.

However, if you’re not a fan of tracks like “The Catalyst” and “Blackout”, there’s still some tamer numbers to be found on A Thousand Suns, including some acoustic ballads and some of the Hip-Rock that’s become LP’s trackmark.

Check out “Blackout” below.

Bruno Mars premieres “Just the Way You Are” music video.

Posted in Music Videos on September 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

Feature boy Bruno Mars has officially stepped out of the shadows of his famous collaborators and become a star in his own right, today premiering the music video for his smash hit solo single. “Just the Way You Are”.

There’s not much to the video besides Bruno getting all lovey dovey with some model, but there’s a bit of sappy animation thrown in of a cassette tape that keeps unraveling and forming cutsie-pie pictures. Oh, and remember when Bruno first came out and he looked kind of creepy? Well, he must have had a makeover, because he’s now officially good looking, although I could do without those Audrina Patridge veneers he’s rocking.

Since it’s release, “Just the Way You Are” has become a huge hit for Bruno, and currently sits at #6 on the Hot 100. It’s also #1 on iTunes and is going down a storm on the top forty airplay charts, so Bruno could just be looking at his very solo chart topper soon. The success of the song bodes well for his upcoming debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, which drops October 5.

Sara Bareilles performs “King of Anything” live on the Today Show.

Posted in Performances on September 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

Cute & sweet singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles released her sophomore album Kaleidoscope Heart this week, stopping by the Today Show yesterday to get in a little promo by performing the album’s first single “King of Anything”.

Vocally, the performance was perfect, and if you weren’t watching the video it’d be pretty easy to mistakenly think that you were listening to the recorded version of the song blasting from the radio. Besides performing, Sara also had a chat about her fear of suffering the sophomore slump, as well as the true meaning behind “King of Anything”.

So far, “King of Anything” has peaked at No. 51 on the Hot 100, No. 6 on the Billboard Adult Pop Chart, and No. 17 on the Adult Contemporary charts. “King of Anything” is the type of song you’d expect to go a lot higher on the AC Charts, but they usually pretty slow with getting songs up there, so there’s still plenty of time yet. I mean, Kelly Clarkson’s “Already Gone” is still top ten on the AC, so you get the picture.

Peep the performance below.

Kings of Leon premiere “Radioactive”.

Posted in Music Videos, New Music on September 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

Tennesse rock band Kings of Leon returned today with the unveiling of their highly-anticipated new single “Radioactive”.

The boys premiered the pious new tune on their official website, complete with the accompanying music video which follows the band getting back to their Southern roots and reconnecting with their spirituality.  The song is a bit of a departure from their commercial juggernauts ”Sex On Fire” and “Use Somebody”, but it’s still got that powerful, sweeping hook, and is still friendly enough to capitalize on the mainstream success that the band found with 2008′s six million selling smash Only By the Night.

“Radioactive” is the first single from KOL’s upcoming fifth studio album, Come Around Sundown. It’ll hit US alt-rock radio and Australian top forty on September 13, with the album set to follow on October 15.

Michael Buble goes “Hollywood” on new single.

Posted in New Music on September 8th, 2010 by The Prophet

Canadian crooner Michael Buble has come a long way since his corny crossover jazz covers of almost a decade ago. He’s continued to grow and evolve over the years as both a singer and songwriter, and his talents are on full display on his latest single “Hollywood” — an original song lifted from the upcoming re-release of 2009′s 5.5 million selling Crazy Love.

“Hollywood” still has Buble’s trademark jazzy vocals, but switches up his sound into more of an upbeat, pop sound, which was most notably heard on last year’s mega-successful “I Still Haven’t Met You Yet”. It’s catchy, radio-friendly, addictive, feel-good, upbeat… Need I go on?

“Hollywood” is on iTunes now, while the Crazy Love re-release will be out in time for the holiday sales peak on October 25. Check out the song below.
