The Simpson sisters are hoping to reignite their not-so-hot careers by returning to very thing that made them famous in the first place — music! The Prophet Blog has been closely tracking Ashlee’s return to pop since July, from when she first announced her intentions to record a fourth album to news that she had reunited with her Autobiography/I Am Me collaborator John Shanks. Now we have some brand new info on Ashlee’s upcoming “indie-folk” album, which she recently opened up about to Paper Magazine during an appearance at her sister Jessica’s New York fashion week show on Tuesday night (pictured above).
“I’m sticking around [in New York] to write music this week,” said Ashlee. “I do, I do,” she continued when asked if she knew the direction of the new record, “I see the light. But I’m definitely not spilling the beans just yet. It’s definitely a bit folky.”
“It had that feel,” she said when asked if the new sound was more folky than her hit ‘Piece of Me, “but I’m really going for it this time!” she continued. “Well, I’m always a kooky person, so you’re not going to lose that,” Ashlee says when asked if the music will retain the vibe of her hits like ‘La La’ and ‘Outta My Head’, “But for me, there’s an era of music that I miss and I wanna make that kind of music. The songs that we need to hear.”
And when asked if she had any dream musical collaborations, Ashlee replied: “I have to say Gwen Stefani is the new Blondie so I’d wanna do it with her. Or Karen O. I would die. Oh my God, if I got to meet Karen O I would die. Oh my God! I’ve grown up loving her. I’d paint my face like her. She’s my all-time really.”
Even better is that Ashlee said she has no acting plans at the moment, and her only other project right now is a “small, cool boutique-y” clothing line, so that means most of her focus will be on her music — where it should be!
Her less-talented sister (sorry Jess) is also working on new music, and has another Christmas album in the works. This will be Jessica’s second Christmas album, following 2004′s Rejoyce, which has sold 670k since it’s release. Jessica now joins Mariah Carey and Susan Boyle who are also recording holiday LP’s for release later this year.
Was I the only one who liked Jessica’s tragic dance-pop album, A Public Affair? “If You Were Mine” is still my guilty pleasure!
