One Direction headed to Saturday Night Live, boy bands continue global comeback

Britain’s best boy band One Direction will continue their quest for world domination with a musical guest spot on Saturday Night Live on April 7th.
Although their setlist on the night has yet to be announced, it’s fairly obvious that they’ll perform “What Makes You Beautiful”, which recently became the highest Hot 100 debut from a UK act in almost fifteen years when it rocketed in at No. 28 a couple of weeks ago.
The SNL exposure is guaranteed to boost the popularity of “‘What Makes You Beautiful” on the charts, as well as the band’s debut album Up All Night, which drops in the US this week.
One Direction’s Stateside success follows The Wanted, aka the male version of The Saturdays (1D are Girls Aloud, obviously), who just cracked the top five of the Hot 100 with their tacky, generic hit, “Glad You Came”.
The global popularity of One Direction and The Wanted is just further proof that the world is ready for boy bands again. Even K-Poppers BIGBANG are benefiting from the comeback of the boy band, with their recent Korean-language EP Alive reaching No. 150 on the Billboard 200 off of digital downloads alone.
Hmm, now let me just gloat and say I TOLD YOU SO to all the dumbasses who have been telling me forever that boy bands and girl groups will never make a comeback in America again, despite me clearly stating otherwise back in June, 2011. Oh look, The Prophet Blog is right again, it must be Monday.
