[New Music] Perfume – Hurly Burly / Point

You can always count on Perfume. Even if you don’t like their A-side track, they’ve always got a killer B-side waiting in the wings to snatch wigs.

The iconic trio will release their latest single “Spending all my time” this week, complete with two brand new B-side tracks, “Hurly Burly” and “Point”. They’ve both leaked online, and of course, they’re amazing.

“Hurly Burly” has been the most anticipated out of the two. It’s far more typical Perfume than the Western-leaning “Spending all my time”, with a fun and fresh summer sound. It’s upbeat, but far more relaxed than a lot of their harder-hitting dancefloor fillers.

I mean, seriously, as if a Perfume song called “Hurly Burly” isn’t going to be incredible. Just the name alone tells you everything you need to know before even hearing it.

The other track, “Point”, isn’t as addictive as the almighty “Hurly Burly”, but it’s more interesting. The production sounds like the whimsical electronica from SEGA’s Phantasy Star Online combined with a mean drum ‘n’ bass beat.

Although it could never be a single, it fits the bill of flaw-free b-side or album cut perfectly.

In other news, I love “Spending all my time” now. I don’t know how I ever doubted it.

Their first two studio albums Game and Triangle are absolutely incredible. Their recent album JPN isn’t quite as good but is still fantastic. They also have a new compilation coming out that is going to be amazing, it’s like a semi best of but with some of their b-sides etc.

In terms of who has the best music, Perfume and Brown Eyed Girls are like the two best girl groups on the planet

Spending all my time is my favorite of the 3, but I also love love Hurly Burly. Point is boring me atm but could always grow on me at some point. I can’t believe I didn’t agree with you when you said samt was a Calvin Harris knockoff. I completely hear it now but idec because it’s flawless. I’d rather hear perfume do Calvin Harris’s style than Calvin Harris. Or Rihanna.

“Complete Best” could technically be seen as their first album, and it’s really good imo. I love it.
