New Keri Hilson album due May 31 — Jeff Bhasker, Drake and more on board

Keri Hilson’s sophomore album could be hitting shelves sooner than we all thought, with the dime diva’s label Interscope telling Billboard that they’re aiming for a Memorial Day (May 31) release date.

The album will be preceded by a new single, tentatively due in March, but if things go according to plan we could see the song even earlier.

Joining Keri’s sophomore set will be the usual suspects of Timbaland, Danja and Polow Da Don, along with some new faces including Jeff Bhasker and rapper Drake.

In case you’re unfamiliar with Bhasker’s previous work, he’s produced for Kanye West (808′s & Heartbreak album), Kid Cudi (Man on the Moon album) and Alicia Keys (Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart).

“We’re just getting into this,” says Interscope urban music head DJ Mormile. “But we already have an idea of what we want to do. This album will continue the evolution of Keri, building off the hits ‘Knock You Down’ and ‘Turning Me On,’ which helped define her. This new album will be ‘Turning You On’ times 10.”

It sounds like we could be getting the urban Keri Hilson on this album, but the success of her pop hit “I Like” tells a different story.

What do you guys think?

but on the real, i like keri! i’ll look out for this one.

she just better not throw #shade at Ciara and Beyonce again, know your place bitch!

  • synthheavy

I just hope they get the album right. This could be HER Good Girl Gone Bad. Keri is popular now but probably the same as Rihanna was before GGGB propelled her to stardom. In A Perfect World was almost as good as GGGB, but it was a debut record for an unknown artist so it couldn’t really do much. If this sophomore effort is just as good and hopefully better, I see tremendous success.

  • Alicia

WOW…why so early? I don’t like rushed work, but I hope it works out for her.

  • ImHighPrice

I will be purchasing as I did for the debut but I do think she needs just a dash of POP in the mix and am I the only one who thought “Turnin Me On” was just alright…hmmm there were better cuts on the album.

  • brandy

thats kinda 2 early…but her last album really didnt t0 much as I expected but I liked it…And love what Jeff bhasker, did with Alicia TSWABH…is genious one of my fave tracks this year an her album I just hope she can up with s0mething different, unique like that track I just mentiond above

  • Alicia

Yea, I’m not feeling this “butch chick from the hood” vibe…she DEF needs some pop in their, cuz that’s the ONLY Keri I like. I LOVE “Energy”, “Return The Favor”, “I Like”, and her feature “The Way I Are”

  • http://a-boy-from-another-planet.blogspot.com/ a boy from another planet

FLOP HILSON, no!! just no!!!!!!!!!! no! no! no!!!

  • http://a-boy-from-another-planet.blogspot.com/ a boy from another planet

was “I like” really a success? I don’t even know about the song. When was it released? did it even chart on the billboard top ten?

I feel like with Keri Hilson, there’s a double standard when it comes to defining “success”. She pulls one mediocre top 50 hit and the whole world claps and calls her a “success”. Seriously stans? smh

  • BitchBooBYE

Jeff bhasker is amazing! He produced Brandy’s “Long Distance” as well.

Keri is not really bringing anything new to the game. Everything shes doing now, Rihanna and other girls has done it before. Hopefully she may surprise me with this new record.

“I Like” did really well where it was released, and fans loved it, so it has the potential to be an international hit I think

  • Carter

I think IAPW was waaaay underrated and definetely underperformed to its full capabilities. Get Your Money Up is STILL my jam and its been almost a year. I’m soooo pumped for this album!!! I hope she does more urban music though… I Like is okay but when songs like Hey Girl (Patron Tequila) seem to fit her more… but whatever she brings to the table I’ll probably eat up more than a fat guy at Krispy Kream anyway… ;)

  • Yumm

I love what Jeff Bhasker did with Leona Lewis so I’m very interested in what he’ll do with Keri. I wasn’t very impressed with her album, only liking one song (Knock You Down) however one of my best friends loves it and I’m sure will love the new one LOL

I hope this album is better than her first one because if u ask me “In A Perfect World…” was waaaaaaack!

  • goons

whoaa, didnt think it would be out that soon..i guess she is following the same route as everyone…well get it keri..honestly i am confused by which direction she should go…i just hope its a good album for her sake!!!

  • jp

Another Skeri Hilson album already? I think I would be more excited if I enjoyed her debut as much, but I know she could’ve came alot harder. And then after that fan posted his drama with her at her signing, i do believe she is a bitch lol But talent she does have, none-the-less.

  • Carl

Her last album was overrated. I will check for this but I will not buy. It’s sooo soon but I don’t blame her!

  • TMM09

I half liked her debut album so I’m lookin forward to her sophmore effort!

Durring the ‘ Scream ‘ period I always thought that keri would be forgotten and that Nscherzinger would kick her ass, guess I was wrong ( thankgod ) Keri’s the underdog.

  • http://www.luke-hotmusic.blogspot.com Luke

but she is Ms. Push-back as well.. her debut album seen light of the day 2 years later… so Im wondering if she can release a single, make a video and release an album in 4 months

  • Ash Jones

the only grudge i have with IAPW was that they didn’t release “Alienated”. It was defo the second stand out track after “Knock You Down” and “Energy” was a much better song than where it charted. I am looking forward to seeing what Hilson and Jeff Bhasker come up with. Im not really looking forward to hearing Hilson and Timbaland again because what they produced on Shock Value II was rubbish. And its a shame cus Timbaland used to be my favourite producer. I would like to see her make more songs like “Alienated”, “I Like”, “Knock You Down” and “Turning Me On”. “Get Your Money up” is kack…

  • can’tthinkofone

“It sounds like we could be getting the urban Keri Hilson on this album”

^^umm, do u actually LISTEN to her music? she’s already a VERY URBAN artist. I think she was lucky to have gotten by with her mediocre debut album.

  • brandy

@Ash s0 true timbaland just sold out, well I think Ms.Keri will definetly get better & better with time…She just needs 2 let go and find her true self cause seems like everything she doing is s0 yesterday…but I do thinks this bitch got skills, Knock u down, get ya $ up, turnin me on & Alienated were my jams!! I think she should go in formula she sound s0mewhat better and it suits her alot m0re & just add her own 2 it

  • Lindsay

I don’t think it’s too soon really. Songs from her first album started coming out in summer 2008, but the album just got pushed back so many times till spring 2009. I think she should try to get an album out this year to keep the momentum going :)

  • I know who Jeff is

Jeff Bhasker started in the muisic industry with Goapele. She has a new CD coming out this year too. For those who don’t know her, she’s the “Queen of Underground R&B”!!! Google her, you won’t be dissapointed!!!

  • http://www.theprophetblog.net The Prophet

    Omg I love Goapele!

  • Lisa

I liked a lot of songs from her last album and I think it’s a good thing that she’s releasing another album so quick. She needs to strike while the iron’s hot and this album really isn’t rushed considering it took her almost a year to get In A Perfect World out.

  • prince

OMG does every thing have to be pop there more genres out there than pop.

  • Cardio Rodeo

I love the I like song. I mean it took a while to get use to over but I think her voice sounds great over it. Maybe she’s just working with producers but could also be experimenting with a different sound. Who knows. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

  • Lauren

haters stay pressed. she ain’t goin anywhere. k? :)
