The William Hung thing again. Again, overwhelming positive vibe makes this small segment of racists irrelevant. Of course you will find people making the reference if you search for it together. Just like if I searched SNSD and Plastic Surgery, all I will get is people going on about how they are fake, plastic and look alike. Try instead just looking at all the news stories of Psy and see how often the reference comes up. I have seen idiots on Psy stories say that clearly the US didn’t use a big enough Nuke on Japan. You are reading what you want to read into it.

Where exactly did I say Big Bang and 2NE1 made more inroads than SNSD? Because if you put on your glasses and read it again you will see I said they made more than Psy – who for the record wasn’t even trying.

As for the constant attempt to ridicule the artist with the William Hung reference, I will remind you that there are people out there that believe SNSD are made on a production line of look alike barbie dolls. Everyone has haters. I don’t like Beiber or Gaga. They are still as famous as all fuck. What some people are saying is irrelevant when you are dealing with overpowering positive vibe.

Finally, last I checked, Psy was also signed with technically the same American record label – Universal Music Group. Or did you miss that announcement?

Again, you use the Korean market statistics to try and prove your point. SNSD do fabulous in Korea and Japan. I am certainly not arguing that. But while you claim you need to be living with the Taliban to not know of their accomplishments, that in itself is a delusion as KPop and even JPop were not mainstream. If they were, they wouldn’t need a game changer. Many people in the US can be completely oblivious to the existence of SNSD without ever needing to be lumped into a cave with Taliban.
Psy isn’t the biggest star in Korea either, not in dispute. Heck, the man is damned controversial. Even for YG his label mates Big Bang and 2NE1 have done more – and have made far more inroads into the US market. Psy wasn’t even trying to break it over there. As YG said “They weren’t even knocking”. Gangnam style is cool, yep… but it is no Lies or Gee or even a Sorry Sorry (it might be a cooking cooking though).
Once again – this shit is NOT in contention.
The term is “game changer”. Can they change the game? No, because it has already been changed. 2 months ago, Kpop idols were carefully digging inroads into international markets and hoping that with enough hard work and the right song they will finally crack it open and make it into the mainstream. Today, Kpop has mainstream awareness because of Gangnam Style. The game has been changed. They will now be releasing into a market where KPop has mainstream awareness. Pretending that Gangnam style did not soften the market and future releases won’t benefit from that is disingenuous.

Psy going viral, even if it was just one funny ass song, means the pathway has now been paved for other Kpop artists in the US, as the market is now more receptive to them.

That is what a “game changer” is. One incredible act/thing that shifts momentum for the entire movement. SNSD did not do this, no matter how much you want to delude yourself into believing it.
