Nelly Furtado Drops “Waiting for the Night” Video, is Totally Over Pop Music

Please tell me the name of whoever footed the bill for another music video from Nelly Furtado‘s The Spirit Indestructible so I can stick my tongue inside of them. “Waiting for the Night” is one of my least favorite cuts from Spirit, but I’m just so happy to see that Nelly’s underrated gem of an album isn’t completely dead in the water just yet.

Despite The Spirit Indestructible being one of last year’s better pop albums, nobody bought it. Like, seriously, nobody. I think its total sales are actually somewhere in the minus. Because people would rather purchase trash like Unapologetic, Believe, and whatever Bruno Mars’ album is called, Nelly’s now ready to give up pop music for good. The songstress revealed the shocking news in a recent interview with The Huffington Post, basically revealing that she doesn’t want to try keep up with the kids and record business at her age, and would rather do something more musical. I can’t say that I’m too upset. More pop music from Nelly would obviously be fabulous, but whatever she puts out is going to be good anyway (check her discography, bitch), so it’s a win-win situation either way. I also love that she just doesn’t give a fuck and is going to do what she wants to do. Nelly is a true, independent, self-empowered kween oozing with integrity who deserves to be admired, emulated, and worshiped by all.

Haters to the left.

Gurl, this bitch is so fierce and classy, that if she releases a spoken album about the latest episode Keeping Up With The Kardashians, it still would be better than whatever is in Billboard top 40.

Well i bought the album (and it’s one of my favourite albums of 2012) so somebody bought it :P This song was one of the best pop songs of the year! Nelly is one of my most favourite artists ever and I’ll always stan for her! Whatever music may she bring us, it will be good for sure!!

Did u notice the similarity to T-ara’s “Lovey Dovey” at some points in the song? (2:25)

I actually buyed the album, but I really disliked it. Only a couple good songs on it. Kinda sad compared to Loose, Folkore and the first album which are timeless to me!

FUCKING WOW!! i didn’t care to download spirit indestructible, but fuck this song and its video OMG! so now i feel guilty.

nelly furtado is one of my favorite artists ever and well, she always manages to do amazing pop music without being comercial. and not in an annoying selfindulging hipster way [i'm looking at you mariana and the diamonds].

all of her albums are great study pieces being more than just a collection of top 40 singles [mhmm rihanna], with beautiful gems in them. she does music like she knows what she’s doing and when she experiments it really feels like a progression of herself as an artist and not some stinking shit to pose cute to the critiques [hi beyoncé].

so OF COURSE nobody pays the attention she trully deserves.

i think you’re tripping bro lol

  • WTF

Bitch please, we all know you’d ram your tongue up Timbalands butt for a watered down Promiscuous 2.0

I thought TSI was her worst album yet, actually, and I was HUGE fan when I first heard “I’m Like a Bird”. I find a lot of the tracks badly or under produced–looped instrumentals that don’t build or break down or have good hooks. I’m surprised Darkchild let that go…or maybe that’s the sound Nelly is going for and I’m just not on board.

I’m glad to see Nelly going back to her portuguese roots and getting inspired by other latin influences as well!

Bruno Mars album is still better than this though.

yes, i was totally thinking the same thing :)

I think Bucket List has a lot more potential for success as a single, not that anyone cares about that.

  • Britney Lover

Still confused about the TSI massive floppage… I just bought the album a few days ago and it’s great! She should release “High Life” coz it’s freakin catchy!!!

  • gotgotgone

I thought the album was good just not one of her best and it was to long and parts of it sounded dated. I actually love Waiting for the Night and its one of my favorites on the album along with Circles. The Bucket List should be released next.

    Many people have said that!

PREACH! Yes. To me, Nelly is the most vital pop artist of our generation – her approach to music is hers and hers alone.

If I were to cite at least 2 non-single tracks of pure perfection from each of her albums, I’d say…

Whoa, Nelly! – Legend, I Will Make U Cry
Folklore – One Trick Pony, Fresh Off the Boat
    Loose – Afraid, Showtime
Mi Plan – Sueños, Como Lluvia
TSI – Don’t Leave Me, Thoughts

Anyways… this video is perfection! It’s simplicity done very well. Re: ‘Bucket List’, she said it’s gonna be a single, hopefully the follow-up!

Her label + management didn’t give her enough push, that’s really it. The other day I met up with an old friend then ‘All Good Things Come to an End’ came on the radio and he said, “Wow, she’s really cool… whatever happened to her?”. I said, “She just put out a new album 2 months ago!”. He had no idea, and neither did the general public.

I still think ‘Parking Lot’ would’ve been huge if they’d given enough push, alas, the only promo was during the album release week. What a shame. I can’t really see ‘Waiting for the Night’ for the UK market, hopefully they’re gonna go with ‘Parking Lot’ instead.

  • adrian

I think that’s what she was going for. Months before the album release she stated in an interview that the new album [TSI] was going to be “raw”. We definitely get that from it.

There are rumors it’s the next North American single (she said it’s “gonna be a single at some point”)

  • http://www.facebook.com/lucaswoodstock Lucas Oliveira Dantas

    i’d go with:

whoa, nelly! – legend [YES!!] and party
folklore – fresh off the boat, build you up
    loose – same as you
    mi plan – vaccacion, sueños

tsi – dunno yet, just downloaded it, but i loved the album as whole, still getting to know it

“The Spirit Indestructible” was on my list of albums of the year, is really a great pop record (Bruno Mars isn’t that bad as Justin or Rihanna) and I like “Waiting For The Night” I’m a sucker for Flamenco style and the brigdge and last part is working that style just for me, the video is really nice, I’m happy she haven’t give up on the album and more happy that she doesn’t give a shit about what anyone thinks and just release great stuff. “Not pretending I’m 18″ have u heard that ¿Carly, Katy and Avril? NOT PRETENDING TO BE 18!

  • adrian

The reason why I left off ‘Party’ is because it was a club/promo single of sorts, so it doesn’t really count as just an ‘album track’, anyways… that’s a brilliant song, one of my absolute favourites, esp the acoustic, half-Portuguese, non-LP version.

‘Legend’ is amazeballs innit?! “Just like a legend that rises and then falls, I’ll never be his only one…” who has never felt that way?

Anyways, here’s a fantastic live performance of the song, for those who’ve never seen it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOYBZ9RjGG0

”Nelly is a true, independent, self-empowered kween oozing with integrity who deserves to be admired, emulated, and worshipped by all.”
    PREACH!
but yeah: she is managed so badly, get rid off those useless bandwagons Nelly!
and slay the world with MIRACLES! *praying that this masterpiece won’t be skipped*
