I wasn’t originally planning on listening to the new Shiny Toy Guns album, III (total Crystal Castles knock-off title tbh), but after hearing the singles, I might have to reevaluate my decision. Lead offering “Waiting Alone” was pretty good, but it’s the band’s follow up, “Fading Listening”, that’s really knocked my wig off.
Far less cluttered and intense than their usual offerings, “Fading Listening” recalls Rumours era Fleetwood Mac awash in mellow eighties synth-pop. It’s not Shiny Toy Guns’ typical sound, but they could certainly have a promising future producing more downbeat music if they ever decide to take the plunge.
The accompanying music video shows what a typical day in the recoding studio might look like for the Guns, except that everyone is played by children — including all the members of the band. Very cute.
III is available in stores and online now.
