[Music Video] Nelly Furtado – Spirit Indestructible

Here’s some good news for you: Nelly Furtado‘s “Spirit Indestructible” music video is much better than the actual song.

When I reviewed Nelly’s future chart flop, I mentioned how you couldn’t possibly find a title that screams “Nelly Furtado!!!” more than “Spirit Indestructible”, and the same can be said for the video. It’s got a strong elemental theme, with Nelly singing in places like a snow covered mountain and next to a beach bonfire, and comes across a lot like a throwback to the days of “I’m Like a Bird”.

She looks beautiful, and it even makes me like the song a bit more than before. I just wish this was some kind of promotional thing for the Olympics or something, and not Nelly’s official second single. The song probably works really well in the context of her new album, but the hit potential is zero, at least in America, and I don’t want to see people overlook what is most likely going to be an amazing album just because it hasn’t been able to produce a hit.

Anyway, check out the video below.

Totally agree – this is not a single – it’s a good album track.

I love it! I think Nelly and Darkchild turned out to be one of the best combinations of singer+producer ever! I think I might even prefer their work to Timbo+Nelly…but I’ll wait until the album comes out. I’m also excited to hear what Remi did with her and I hope the tracks are more like Jazmine Sullivan type and less Amy…

I listen to it all the time Proph. This really is a nice tune. I think you got it wrong this time and need to re-review it…

  • Bleahim

I simply adore the song and just fell in love with the video!! :) )

  • LizzyG

I love the song and I love the video.

  • John Norman

I like it! I’ll probably obsess over it for a bit.

big hoops and this, both sound like showdown from loose my least fav track from that album, i hate it, i was like 12years’old when whoa nelly came out, it was a major part of my early teenage years along with dido no angel, pink missundaztood, wich i mean love nelly even the folcklore era but this is not good at all.

Great video—amazing visuals! Nelly looks absolutely stunning! The only thing that freaks me out is her turning to dust at the end of it —eerie! I must say I’ve grown to love this song. I already bought “Big Hoops” and I would buy this one except I would just rather wait for the full album.

    Exactly my thoughts!

  • Blah

i like it but the intro annoyed me so this is what i did… i downloaded a program that enabled me to cut the first 57 seconds of the song! song is now flawless and defines my whole life.

  • Blah

come on… at least she didn’t go all dance pop on us

  • Popblock

This song really get’s going in the middle… and I become addicted. Then it just drops out back to it’s mellow/boring beginning.

It’s a great video but I think she should commission a kick ass radio remix in order for it to get radio play.. it’s just missing to much from the production.

Let me pray this slays because I love it. I wish the vocals were stronger but the production is flawless imo.

I AGREE. I love this song. I first heard the live version in Paris where the vocals are stronger than when I heard the studio version, I was slightly disappointed.

Hmm. The visuals in the video are great, however I wish there was a little more spark — the outfitting was great (minus the blue jeans — what an incredible snow-capped mountain, and beautiful blazer, but with JEANS? seemed very out of place) but I think a bit more cohesion between the scenes would’ve been nice. Perhaps a journey from the beach to the mountains instead of flashing back and forth would’ve done the trick.

I wholeheartedly agree with you in regards to the Olympics comment. Why her team hasn’t pushed this is beyond me. Sure, the sponsors for the event may not have wanted the song, but she could at least try to incorporate this song with the Olympics unofficially via the internet. It kind of saddens me that her team hasn’t brought single material to the game yet, because she’s obviously trying SO hard (and not in a desperate way) and bringing her A game but to no avail. I’ll always be a fan and I’m rooting for her; I’m just not looking forward to the inevitable album delay when they realize we’re a little more than a month and a half away from the album drop date and have failed to produce any recognition.
