[Music Video] Madonna – “Girl Gone Wild”

Madonna‘s new single “Girl Gone Wild” may be a whole lotta mehhh (review here), but the Holy Queen of Pop has made up for the questionable audio with an undeniably stellar music video.

Now, I’m just gonna warn you straight off the bat that the video is a little gay. And by ‘little’ I mean utterly buttfuckingly homo fagtacular to the max times ten gay, so if you have a problem with that kind of thing then you should probably exit this ride now.


Directed and conceptualized by fashion photographers Mert & Marcus, “Girl Gone Wild” simultaneously serves as homage to Madonna’s classic videos like a “Vogue” and “Justify My Love”, a nod to her old life as New York City nightclub staple, and a stinging slap in the face to Lady GaGa’s “Alejandro”, as if to say, “I did this first and I can still do it better“.

Stiletto-clad Ukrainian dance troupe Kazaky bring their famously homoerotic choreography to the clip, getting down in the background while Madonna gets groped by a gaggle of gorgeous gays.

The whole affair is highly-sexual, but Madonna executes it in such a camp fashion that it no longer carries the air of desperation that some of her other work has. Gone are the days of Madge looking like a sex-starved succubus flashing her vagina to stay relevant — now she’s a confident deeevah who knows that she’s the hottest 53-year-old on the planet, and just wants to show it off.

Madonna brought everything to this video, even executing what could these days be considered as some very solid choreography. Sure, it’s not Janet Jackson circa “Rhythm Nation”, but she easily out-danced the majority of today’s pop tarts with ease, and if she can pull it off live, I’ll be utterly slayed.

Damn it. This video is so good that I’m going to have to start stanning for the song now. Madge has left me with no choice!

    Amazing vid for a standard pop artist, but standard pop artist is what Madonna is not. This is tacky, exploitation of gay intemacy for cheap publicity. Madonna’s songs and video’s used to have so much depth and were filled with messages. These days she’s just more or less forgotten who she was and what she fought for and has left her days of being a true artist behind. But I do understand that she loves performing and is probably the only reason she madde this tanker CD. But I think doing that just neglects your fans and leaves us with dissapointment. All I want from the music industry is subtance,  and for them to put their names behind something they GENUINLY supporty. I expected so much more from the Madonna who fought so hard for equality long before it was considered “hip”. It feels like she’s given up. And I am so happy Gaga has come along to continue. I don’t see why she takes so much hate when she’s only trying to continue what Madonna started. Equality is definatly not a priority but it is important. You’ll never see the likes of Rihanna shed a tear for a fan who commited suicide. Just think.

    Part of me wants Britney to see this so she can get inspired again.

    the production value is that of a low budget dance video. it’s shot pretty terribly. the only redeeming shot is at the end, and it looks like they added the makeup FX in as an after thought in a desperate attempt to make something memorable aside from boys in heels, which will never be cute no matter how hard the boys in Kazaky dance.

    if she wasn’t going to spend money and do something visually impressive, she should have at least pushed the boundaries and had everyone legitimately naked. 

    but… i’m being harsh. but this is madonna. c’mon. bar should be 1000x higher if she’s playing this market still.

    Someone upped Erika Jayne’s budget! This seriously looks like some of the gay pandering shit she’d do. I expected better from Madonna and Mert And Marcus. This video proves that Madonna now knows that only the gays care about her. Her new album sucks and its only reason for existence is so that she has a reason to do another overpriced tour. It’s like she’s given up on music and only cares about touring off her back catalog now. Mert And Marcus did a good Steven Klein Mike Ruiz impression with this.

    I love how open minded madonna is and think it’s great that she puts gay people in her mv’s… however I feel like the video is just not working somehow?  It would be much more suitable for the likes of lily allen’s “fag hag” than a song about girls going wild lol.

    As for the song itself, unlike a lot of other people I really like it. It isn’t very good single material though because it lacks punch and a climax, but it’s a nice tune imo.

    I love this video. I love Madonna for continuing to release quality music (this song isn’t the BEST example lol) and quality music videos. She truly “gets” the dance music genre, and completely understands how to deliver to her audience. What I DON’T like, however, is the CONSTANT connection artists like Madonna and Gaga make between homosexuality and feminine attributes in men. The choreography could be so fucking cool. But instead, the men dancing are all stick-figure super-fag models with eyeliner on, in high heels. I’m sorry, but I don’t feel like this “connects” with me as a homo dude who loves Madonna’s dance beats. I think it’s cool that she’s so blatantly putting homo-erotica into the spotlight, but why can’t it (for ONCE) just be guy-on-guy action? Without makeup, high heels, limp wrists, and pretty much pretending to be girls? Aside from that pet-peeve, the video is beautiful. Camera angles, cinematography, editing, the concept, it’s all spot-on. A very good reminder of why Madonna is still the Queen of fucking Pop. I hope she continues to work with Mert & Marcus in this album era.

    The video a great homage to her past video’s IMO and watching it i was just tripping of the sheer fierceness. Gaga never had a quarter of Madonna’s presence in her vid, when Madonna was doing that Monologue at the start i almost called a priest in to exorcise me lmao! The song is one of the better I’ve heard from “MDNA” but the video slays full stop. Madonna was giving me these crazy old fierce Bette Davies bitch vibes lmfao and who EVER that lush apple licking boy is send him my way!!! ;D

    I’m gay and I don’t act like those guys or identify with them but it doesn’t bother me, there are all kinds of gay people like there are all kinds of straight. Putting two ordinary gay guys wasn’t gonna fit for THIS video or make a statement for gays in any way, it’s usually not “normal” gays that people have a problem with it’s the feminine ones which is a problem that needs attention and Madonna is bringing it.

    First off, fuck any and all of you that think that the “faggy” (whatever the fuck that means) aesthetic of the guys is a negative. A strong, beautiful gay man will come in whatever package he wants to and if you don’t like that package then don’t let yourself or other people wrap you in the same fuckin’ paper, bitch, and leave it at that. As for the video itself, absolute perfection, IMO. She looks incredible and the video totally pulls out some truly eye-catching visuals. It’s definitely not pretentious, it’s uber-camp, and it basically drove a huge human-motorcycle hybrid vehicle through every single GaGa video after “Telephone.” I’m looking at you especially, “Alejandro.” And this is someone who stupidly bought at least three different versions of Born This Way. I doubt MDNA will be any better (judging by all those previews), but at least Madonna’s having some fun with her work for the time being. And this is just me, but I felt a little dash of Kylie’s “Get Outta My Way” in the video, albeit, dripping in B&W BDSM. But again, that just might be me. Overall, it’s probably my favorite video of the year so far. Not that there’s much other competition.
