[Music Video] Lana Del Rey – Summertime Sadness

The corny voice-over and melodrama of Lana Del Rey‘s “National Anthem” video made it an instant fail for me, but seeing Lana and actress Jamie King play suicidal lesbian lovers in the “Summertime Sadness” visual is right up my ally.

In the coming weeks we’ll probably get explanations from Lana and the video directors that they’re not really lovers and that their death is a metaphor for this and that, but in my eyes, this is a video about two hot babes posing and looking beautiful through a Windows Media Player vintage filter effect.

When Lana does that cute growl face (that I wisely capped above) your entire existence was Lana Del Slayed.

And can we talk about the radio mix of the song? It makes “Summertime Sadness” even catchier than it was before, without sacrificing any of the quality.

Lana is just flawless in my eyes. Wish she had more success in the US.
So glad that she is doin good here in Germany. BTD went Platinum just like VG (single and Album #1) and the Radio Mix of Summertime S. sits at #5 on iTunes.

I can’t with the new mix because the album version seriously annihilates my soul. The video is cute. I don’t know. I need Del Slay on a motorcycle with some guns & shit for an “Off To The Races” vid. Then I’d be 100% here for her, but right now I’m at like, 93%.

Well the video for “Dark Paradise” comes out in September but she said it’s not being billed as an official single. I’m not holding that November release as anything official yet cause I’m sure it will be pushed back.

Honestly, the song is amazing, the radio mix even better. but the video is quite distasteful given all the recent teen (gay, or accused of being gay) suicides. Kids look up to music artists, and this in a way is encouraging an easy way out.

Il’ve heard her music and watch her vids. I just don’t see the appeal. Maybe its me or maybe the old posh hoywood hipster glam doesn’t attract me. Fashionable smut is usually the trend. Compare to others she is rather tame from that. Still can’t get into it.

I don’t hate the video, but I don’t love it. National Anthem is incredible/flawless/etc. so this is definitely a step down. I especially hate that they made it look like her homemade videos… her homemade videos already look like homemade videos, so why make a professional video look the same? I don’t like the way she looks either. She looks plain Jane and frumpy idk. Also, I’m actually in love with the radio mix of the song. Just the extended version tho.
