Melody Thornton explodes onto the scene with “Love Gun”.

With Flopzinger and Kimberlegend carving out solo careers for themselves, it was easy to completely forget all about PCD’s premiere vocalist, Melody Thornton. She’s been laying low for a little while, but now Mel is back and giving the world the first official taste of her upcoming solo album with the Cee-Lo Green produced track “Love Gun”.

After keeping her voice under wraps for so long, Melody’s powerful and almost shrill pipes are out in full force on the western-flavored, 60s pop song. The vocal delivery is a little left of center and not something you’d ever hear from the Dolls, as is the production, which carries Cee-Lo’s unique style. It’s kind of like Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang” brought into the 21st century, but then given a quirky urban-pop makeover. Yup, it’s amazing.

Flopzinger, who? Kimberlegend, huh?

“Love Gun” was actually originally recorded for PCD’s sophomore album Doll Domination, and was then later passed on to the Paradiso Girls’ Lauren Bennett, until finally finding it’s rightful home with Melody.

    Go head Melody. I’m glad she’s on the scene. My only fear is that she doesn’t have as much stage prescence as Nicole and that’s one of the reasons she wasn’t pushed to the front. But her music is definitely ON POINT!

    i’m sorry, but i have to be honest: her voice sounds like someone sat on a cat while simultaneously scratching their nails across a chalkboard and sharpening a knife. seriously, it just grates on my every nerve and makes me flinch. i couldn’t even get through ther first 10 seconds.

    what’s sad is that i really wanted to like her too… =(

    3. hair voice isn’t that great. I went to see pcd live last year and melody closed the show with a encore of ‘Gotta show me love’ and she literally hurted my ears.

    I actually really enjoy this. Not because it’s a SMASH per se, but because it’s different from what we’re hearing now when she could have easily churned out a Rihanna b-side and called it a day. I think her voice is a bit high here and she sounds a wee bit young, but I like what she went for and she definitely gets points tbh. As soon as she works on her dance game a bit, she’ll be a complete package. I know she’s got the drive.

    OK . First off this song is really cool and fresh and I like it. Second… Nikki is the best vocalist from PCD. then again its like arguing about people saying that beyonce is the best vocalist out there! LOL its all about dynamic voices and PLEASE I havent really seen that many sides of melody!! But nikki…her voice covers many genres!!

    Anyway….. Im excited for her music cause we ALL know that Space was the best song from the solo songs!!! right proph? ahahah

    Like Miss Nuhdeen she’s seperating herself from her group and current sounds at the same time and it’s really refreshing not to hear the same recycled crap yet again!
    I DO agree with the post that says she needs to back it up with her performance skills because when I saw PCD it was all about Nicole and Ashley (and she didn’t even sing!). Baby Doll needs to take her fierce pills!

    The sound is so cool (love Cee-Lo) sounds like a Bond Theme with some urban flavor..now the voice…it’s kind of between Duffy (Good) and…a little 10 year old girl? (Bad)..the song is overall like 3.5/5 amazing sound..but I’m not sure about lyrics and vocals.

    I LOVE THIS! Melody has a very animated voice like Minaj and Duffy but I love this style of music. It’s funky, sounds like it belongs in the Austin Powers movies.
