Mariah Carey’s new album won’t be out until March 2013

Billboard ran an article on Mariah Carey‘s abysmal new single “Triumphlop (Flop ‘Em)” today, revealing a few interesting tidbits on Mimi’s current campaign and her impending comeback. The biggest thing is about her album, which won’t see a release until March, 2013.

This could be either good or bad, depending on which way you look at. With “Triumphant” going nowhere, a 2013 release date gives Mariah more than half a year to actually get her shit together and release a song that doesn’t sound like it belongs on one the mixtapes that Mya sells out the back of her car on weekends. She’ll also be able to take advantage of some killer cross-promotion thanks to her upcoming stint as a judge on American Idol’s next season, which kicks off in January.

So, with that said, what the hell is the point of “Triumphant”? In the Billboard article, Randy Jackson states that Mimi is looking for a multi-format smash with the song’s multiple versions, and that she’s planned a “big TV performance” as part of the promotion, but Mariah must be crazier than her Glitter days if she thinks that song is going to be a hit. It’s already No. 89 on US iTunes after just a few days, having peaked briefly at No. 37 before beginning its current digital free-fall. Those are disappointing numbers for any A-list pop diva, including Mariah, whose last lead single “Obsessed” shifted 119,000 copies in its first week.

The song will be officially shipped to radio on August 13, and a Nick Cannon-directed music video (God help us all) is due in the next few weeks, but who is Mariah kidding — ain’t nothin’ gonna save this sinking ship.

Is it really worth whetting the public’s appetite with a pre-Idol warmup single when the song in question sounds like absolute rubbish and is headed into Bionic territory on the charts?

In unrelated news, I’m really getting into “H.A.T.E.U.” lately and have concluded that it’s underrated. You know you’re in trouble when your fans are ignoring your new single and start revisiting past flops to get their fix!

Memoirs as a whole is amazing. “More than Friends” is FLAWLESS

It’s like when Beyonce tried to save Run The World (Girls) with all those promotions, but the difference is at least Run The World has sick beats, thanks to Mazor Lazer.

I think this where where artists like Mariah, Madonna, and Gaga shoot
themselves in the foot sometimes. They have too big of an ego and insist
in writing their songs and being all hands on. Which is fine, but
sometimes you gotta let it go and admit to yourself there are better
songwriters out there. Mariah, just give us a Femme Fatale. A fun, solid
pop album where you can just sort of kick it back and not have to prove
anything since you’ve been in the game long enough.

Except there really aren’t that many songwriters better than Mariah out there, unless you’re looking for something bleak and repetitive. i.e. Gaga’s songwriting.

Triumphant was more timed for the Olympics than anything. Should have started calling it a tribute or something the moment the negative feedback came in…

LOLz… I want the album to be a success but this song is a (bad) joke, She needs to forget this and move onto the next one. Keep “Bionic” outta this though, at least “NMT” actually charted lmao can’t wait for Xtina to be getting a hit while Mimoo is still clamouring for a decent single later this year…
I love Mariah too but she should know better than this, and letting Nicki direct your COMEBACK video… really?!

“You know you’re in trouble when your fans are ignoring your new single and start revisiting past flops to get their fix!“ there should be a name for this, cause i do this all the time :/

I am very positive about the album, since Mariah is yet to make a bad album. Saying that, Triumphant is not a anything spectacular, it’s a solid grower, that doesn’t have a HIT potential. But Mariah is that kind of artist, she will never change and will never make a music she doesn’t like. I think people expect too much from her and that’s why they are disappointed.

  • Yumm

I’m so pissed I have to wait that long, Uh Mariah I love you but why lately have your album releases been such messes!

If you take out the horrible rappers it isn’t that bad… i do like the dance version, though that also could be a bit more modern. She just isn’t innovative with her music. Which is too bad because she does have quite a lot of great songs.

“and a Nick Cannon-directed music video (God help us all)”

You know you’re in trouble when your fans are ignoring your new single and start revisiting past flops to get their fix!” me. i’ve gotten so into her old stuff again ever since the release of triumphant BECAUSE i hated it. i even got into charmbracelet which i never even gave a chance before. nick cannon directed the video? LMFAO i can’t with this ratchet mess all around. still love the pulse club remix though. the only version i like. it’s flawless.

the whole album is great, i love it so much. i like the production on e=mc2 more, but the songs on memoirs are overall better imo. tricky stewart and the dreams production is the same throughout the whole album. it’s the only flaw

Ribbon was underrated as well. That song has been a Spotify staple for me for quite a while.
