LOEN TREE project debuts with “Sea of Moonlight”

LOEN Entertainment is one of the best agencies in K-Pop. Their music and visuals are always of the highest quality –not to mention original and creative– and they’re home to amazing artists like IU, Sunny Hill, and Ga-In from Brown Eyed Girls.
What’s not to love?
Now that LOEN is officially one of the fastest-rising agencies in K-Pop, they’ve launched a special project group called LOEN TREE. It’s the exact same thing as YG Family or SM Town, and allows their artists to exclusively collaborate with each other as one unit under the same umbrella.
LOEN TREE’s first order of business is to release a seasonal compilation called Summer Story. The album drops on August 2nd, but the first single “Sea of Moonlight”, featuring K-Pop princess IU and LOEN’s new girl group FIESTAR, was released today.
“Sea of Moonlight” is a carefree ditty about escaping to a summer paradise with the one you love. It smashes together sunny bubblegum with retro new-wave, recalling A-Ha’s classic “Take on Me” with an addictive synth-pop style that would be perfect for any ’80s soundtrack.
The official music video isn’t as ambitious as many of LOEN’s past epics, with a simple theme revolving around a summer camping adventure. The styling and set design just screams LOEN, and as expected, IU’s adorable beauty really shines through and steals the show.
IU’s been flogging a ’70s-inspired orchestral-dance sound since “Good Day” became the biggest thing since the invention of the wheel, but “Sea of Moonlight” shows that there’s a lot of other sounds and genres out there that she could successfully slay with ease.
As for FIESTAR, I’m excited to see what they’ll bring to the K-Pop table this year. I’ve been suffering idol group fatigue since about a billion new groups have rolled off the conveyer belt in the past two months (only stanning for the thieving trash that is the iconic Crayon Flop right now), but FIESTAR’s affiliation with LOEN is enough to make me give them a fighting chance.
Bring on Summer Story.
