[Listening Party] Rihanna – Diamonds

The new Rihanna single “Diamonds” is here. Cherish this moment, because the excitement of a new RiRi single only comes around a few million times a year.

“Diamonds” was produced by both Stargate and Benny Blanco, and penned by Sia — which is shockingly obvious by the way Sia’s backing vocals are still on the track and how Rihanna emulates her singing style to the point that this may as well be the Aussie singer’s new single instead of RiRi’s.

First Ke$ha’s new single sounds like Flo-rida, now Rihanna’s sounds like Sia. When these chicks gon’ sound like themselves?!

Oh well. *turns “Diamonds” and “Die Young” up loud*

Alright … After a few spins its official… I can’t get into this song :/
Rihanna just comes off like she’s trying a bit too hard vocally… The song sounds like Sia karaoke. It’s not a bad song, but lets be honest … It pails in comparison to lead singles like ‘Only Girl’ or ‘We Found Love’

i hate this thought that you only show yourself as an artist if you write your own material. many artists do amazing jobs as performers only and turning compositions into shows is a form of art. pop artists are more like actors than screenplayers, so i personally don’t care much if they write songs or not. see kylie minogue for example, more than 90% of her hit tracks weren’t penned by her, and most of them are tracks that wouldn’t sound as great if were sung by anyone else!

meh… it sounds as good as the boring singles from “good girl gone wild”… good but well, boring. i don’t know… i loved sia when she was a quirky singer from australia, but her stuff for these pop artists is simply boring. i don’t know, maybe it’s me because all these pop bitches from the usa/europe sound all the same for me lately…

I agree with you. I don’t think they all have to write their own stuff …. Whitney Houston, Madonna, Celine Dion, Cher, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson… All kinds of them don’t. Here’s te thing though… All of those women have something that sets them apart. Rihanna does not. Ke$ha? Maybe… Annoying as her sound is… But Rihanna? Nope. She bombards the charts yearly with a new project and a different hairstyle … But let’s be honest, her most memorable work with the exception of a couple of her biggest singles, is as a feature Artist. Songs like ‘Run This Town’ w/ Jay Z, ‘Love The Way You Lie’ w/ Eminem, etc.

I’m not dis-crediting her … She’s got a very unique voice… Singles like ‘Rude Boy’, ‘Only Girl’, ‘What’s My Name’, ‘Disturbia’, ‘Umbrella’, and ‘We Found Love’ have all been favorites of mine …

All I meant was that I feel Rihanna is coming off a little stale now… Her sound and image aren’t evolving anymore … It’s just single after single. She had my interest with ‘Rated R’ for a brief moment … But its quickly ended promotion and the immediate release of her next two projects just made me lose interest. Rihanna has yet to release a project that tops the charts and can transcend beyond the trend of the moment …

    This is forgettable.

This is unmistakably similar to M83′s “Midnight City” . I’m sure once someone does a smash up it will be amazing!

Wow! I gotta praise the work is really beutiful and great, and the better thing is that is not some copy and paste from whatever is on the radio right now, it’s kind of like some “Rated R” realness to it but not so dark on the lyrics, I like it….now what I don’t really know is if I would like this be her single or Sia’s, cause Sia would have slayed even more if this was hers , NO! having her on the background with riri imitating her is not enough! I want to heard the other side of the coin

not a rihanna fan but the song is good & i could see her doing a whole avril rock vibe with thoses vocals & sia song writting.

Both Kesha and Rihanna’s new songs are underwhelming even Xtina’s “comeback” single was generic and underwhelming. These chicks are gonna need to try again…*waits for Beyonce and Katy Perry’s return*

  • KingBeaArthur

Oh wow! Didn’t expect to love this!

  • Miguel

I think this just goes to show how much of a trailblazer X-tina is:
    - Fat before Gaga
    - Talent show judge before Britney
    - Worked with Sia before Rihanna

When i Heard this song on the radio i just had a gut feeling that Sia had something to do with this track, it totally sounds like Sia vocally, Rihanna just heard and repeated
