Listen to Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” and “Dressin’ Up”

Following the shamelessly addictive “Part Of Me”, Katy Perry‘s remaining tracks from The Complete Confection have taken a leak online.

When it comes to Katy, you never really know what you’re gonna get. It’s usually something incredibly mind-blowingly amazing, or pure, stinkin’ trash — both of which are appropriate descriptions for The Complete Confection’s new tunes.

I’ll get the bad one out of the way first, “Dressin’ Up”. It’s one of Katy’s first attempts at having a Britney moment and creating something super sexual, but with lyrics like “You wanna pet my kitty / you’re such a dirty doggie” and references to Sesame’s Street’s Cookie Monster, it’s about as arousing as a colostomy bag. It’s raunch for tweens that would probably sound more appropriate coming from Selena Gomez than the 27-year-old Perry.

“Wide Awake”, on the other hand, is quite brilliant.
Co-written by the magic pen of Bonnie McKee, it could easily serve as a “Part Of Me” follow-up single and potential mega-hit. Much like a slower “E.T.”, the production on “Wide Awake” is booming and super-sized, but it replaces the hypnotic aggression of Katy’s intergalactic smash with a sweet lushness.

Definitely one of the best non-singles to come out of the Teenage Dream era.

    Both sound pretty bad and sterile to me. Katy has been boring me this era! She should’ve just recorded new songs!

    Wide Awake is pretty great, and should definitely be her next single. Dressin’ Up isn’t bad…. but it should remain an album track.

    The first verse leaked not long after the album came out but that’s all. Someone just looped it and said it as the “demo”

    I agree with you, the fact that 2/3 of the new tracks are crap and she expects her fans to buy a whole new album just for that is lame though. Why didn’t she just record a new album if she felt the need to release new stuff???

    “Dress you up” is awful, it’s like a shit mash up of Sugababes “Easy” and one of Britney’s sexy jams. “Wide awake” is pretty good but mostly down to the production and the fact she’s totally jacking Lenny Kravitz’s “Fly away” flow.
