Listen to Katy Perry’s “Firework” and “Peacock”.

With Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album only one week away from release, more leaks were bound to surface, and now the two most anticipated tunes from the set have made their way online — “Firework” and “Peacock”.
The Stargate-produced “Firework” will serve as the official third single from the album, and after hearing, it’s easy to see why. The chorus is absolutely massive. Huge. Insane. It’s the ultimate uplifting, anthemic, fist-pumping moment of the year, and could end up being one of Katy’s biggest hits — which is saying something considering her slew of multi-platinum hits.
The second of the two leaks is another Stargate-production, “Peacock”, which has already garnered a lot early buzz online thanks to it’s raunchy lyrical content. “Peacock” takes a page out of school-yard stompers like “Hollaback Girl” and “Micky”, with a chanty hook about a man’s most important asset over a clappy, cheerleading beat. It’s another bloody hit for Katy, so you may as well already slot this in as single number four or five, because “Peacock” is headed straight to the top ten.
The song’s only downfall –and it is a major flaw– is the lyrical content. “Peacock” is supposed to be filled with sexual innuendo, but there’s absolutely no innuendo to be found. This isn’t Prince’s “Little Red Corvette”, The Mary Jane Girls’ “In My House” or even Britney’s “If U Seek Amy” — it’s just the word ‘cock’ with ‘pea’ in front of it. It’s not clever, it’s not subtle, and there’s no double meaning. It’s a song about cock, plain and simple. The most idiotic part is that it doesn’t even make sense. Luckily, the production is so infectious that it doesn’t exactly matter too much, but still, shame on Katy for not trying to think of something a little more inventive than “I wanna see your peacock”.
Check out both songs below, and brace yourself for Teenage Dream. I don’t think there’s been an album this full of hits since Rihanna’s 8-single opus, Good Girl Gone Bad.
