LISTEN: Hole switch “Samantha” for new second single “Pacific Coast Highway”.
Courtney Love’s new incarnation of Hole have given “Samantha” the boot as the second single from their new album Nobody’s Daughter, instead going for the very 90′s sounding “Pacific Coast Highway” as the follow up to “Skinny Little Bitch”.
“Pacific Coast Highway” is another collabo from Love, Bill Corgan and hitmaker Linda Perry, and is very reminiscent of Hole’s 1998 classic “Malibu”. It’s not nearly as angry as “Samantha” and “Skinny Little Bitch”, but it’s still raw and brutally honest with some poignant lyrics that sound like they’ve come straight from some of Courtney’s own experiences.
And they’re coming to take me away / What I want I will never have / I’m on the Pacific Coast Highway / With your gun in my hands
It’s a good choice for the second single because it’s so similar to the classic Hole of the 90′s, and lets the band release something a little softer after the hard hitting “Skinny Little Bitch”. Releasing “Samantha” straight after would’ve been too heavy.
Both “Pacific Coast Highway” and “Skinny Little Bitch” are on iTunes now, and Nobody’s Daughter will be available on April 23.
