LISTEN: Avril Lavigne – Alice [New Single]


Earlier today Avril Lavigne was a guest on the Ryan Seacrest show where she premiered her new single “Alice”, which is taken from the soundtrack to Tim Burton’s new film Alica In Wonderland.

When previously speaking of her new music Lavigne said she was ditching the Max Martin style pop in favor of a more acoustic direction, and she’s certainly kept her promise with the Butch Walker-produced “Alice” being one of the most mature records she’s done since her sophomore album Under My Skin.

It’s a little shout-ty in parts which can come off as irritating, but it also adds a raw and epic sound to the song.

With the backing of Tim Burtons latest blockbuster behind it I can certainly see “Alice” storming the charts.

    I loved it!
    This is not the first single of her album tho.
    The official first single will come out mid April, and the album in mid June.

    It’s a bit blah.. i’ve always been a huge fan of Avril’s music but this doesn’t really have the x-factor that all her other music has had.

    perhaps it’ll be a grower, but based off first impressions its a bit samey.. and that shouting is grating. :(

    I like the music & lyrics – don’t know about the vocals though. it’s like she’s trying for the Alanis thing but can’t quite pull it off.

    It isnt single material. BUT I freakin love it dammit. Under My Skin was one of the albums I would play some years ago whenever I feel depressed. So mature. This song is equally amazing!!! Congrats avril!! Your latest album was wack. This is SO you! =)

    I don’t see this doing well on radio though, the US isn’t interested in accoustic style ballads. Add some auto tune and a dance beat, and she’s set.

    But isn’t that SO sad, what Ethan said. If that’s what music has come to (that you need autotune and a dance beat), then I’m just really sad.

    I think Avril’s taken a big risk with this sound, and I personally love it – it’s honest, it’s stripped, it’s just her with no autotune or production help. People are already bashing this left right and centre all over the net, but I really hope Avril knows that there are people who appreciate this risk that she’s taken..

    The Name Of the film is Alice In Wonderland The name of the soundtrack is About Alice. There’s two soundtracks in-fact, one for the scores and another with the contemporary music from various artists.
    I can’t wait to hear the Kerli song “Tea Party”. I Love The Avril song. Her voice sounds amzing.

    After multiple listens, I can almost see it being a song for the ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ soundtrack – it’s got that feel to it… :-)

    @barf – yes, you’re right – some artists take risks which end up meaning a mediocre song as a result – fortunately, I believe Avril’s taken a risk and has made a great song!
