Kween Lana Del Slay Nonchalantly Snatches American Radio’s Wig

Lana Del Rey recently took some time out of her busy schedule of being a flawless kween to reveal her thoughts on American radio when asked if she was upset that Born to Die didn’t top the Billboard charts, despite hitting No. 1 internationally.

“No, I’m not a perfectionist and I’m not really interested in the United States at all,” Del Slay casually replied.”… I’m so interested in Europe … Because in America they don’t play, like, the radio wouldn’t play music that isn’t top forty, so I have nothing to do with American music, really.”

“I love the idea of what America used to be,” she continued. “I love the landscape of California and I love the energy of New York City. But do I really wanna sing there? Um, I don’t know. There’s a saying, ‘Let’s go where it’s warm and go where you’re loved‘, and so I feel really good here, I feel really good in Paris, I feel really good when I’m singing for people from Russia — I feel like they get it.”

Shade those American haters, my kween :’(

Well, can’t hate on what she said. She’s right. I’m American & I have listened to her music. She has a couple of songs that I like, but I can’t listen to her for more than 10mins. Her music is kinda….well….depressing. I do like that she’s in her own lane & all. America isn’t what it used to be! Especially when it comes to music. Seems like all that matters now is big numbers, selling sex, & gimmicks when it comes to music! A lot of talented people get shaded & they’re overlooked. Oh, well…congrats Lana

I like a couple of her songs, but she really cant sing that well.

  • mr_spoiled12

I’m American, and I agree with what she’s saying, but there’s people here that do want to see her and do like her music! Maybe I belong in Europe too…

She’s so fucking right. The last decade … What did the UK give us … Coldplay, Keane, Snow Patrol, Ellie Goulding, Mumford and Sons, Florence + the Machine, Adele… And that’s just naming a few that have been internationally successful as of recent … And what do we have to say for America?? Oh ya… Ke$ha, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Lil Wayne, fucking Nicki Minaj?! Thank God for country music. If it weren’t for country we’d be fucked.

Hell, a flawless American Queen like Del Rey has to go overseas to find success?! Our amazing alternative bands and indie musicians are flying the globe because the only way they’ll get noticed stateside is if they feature on an episode of fucking Vampire Diares.

    I’m moving overseas.

America has become so vapid. The music is hyper, bombastic, and frivolous. Every year the BPMs get higher. People just want saccarin shit to plug into and zone out in some hyped up state they call happiness. But I think many Americans want more. Pop lovers buy singles because we love pop and we keep hoping for something amazing to come along. Songs that cater to the top 40 are here today and gone tomorrow but look what happens when an Adele comes along. We buy the shit up like it’s 1999 and keep it on top. I love Lana, Europe is definitely the place for her. But even though the industry is shit, a wasteland for the average to play popstar, I hope real artists stay here for the people who recognize what crap state music is in. Lana brought some much needed credibility for American pop artistry. And I believe in the long run, future generations will laugh at us for all the damn arbitrary drama. Born to Die, Blue Jeans, Video Games, Paradise–classics!

Can you tell I’m not bitter at all about the state of American charting music?

Canada loves her, perhaps bitch should test waters some before throwing out massive shade esp. when re-releasing a CD, and I enjoy her!

“Be young, be dull, ignore good music…like an american. Woo hoo ohoo ohoooo like an american.”

*fangirling, and throwing my panties at you onstage*. Well said.

  • gotgotgone

I love her and am secretly glad she is not mega big in the usa but eventually she is going to blow up here in the states we will just be behind like always well since like 2002

  • ItsFarisBitch

I actually agree with her, I’ve been living in the United states for 11 months now and oh boy radio stations here SUCK !. And the problem is “Majority” of Americans are lazy to search for music so they rely on the radio to get new music, that’s why boring/lame songs like ” Gangamstyle” etc. are topping the charts.

people bashing radio airplays forget that radios are mostly comercial things, so they will play the music the best attracts listeners and therefore brings comercial awareness.

but, lemme be honest here: she says she doesn’t want to have anything to do with the current status of american music; i understand it perfectlky, after all she’s definitelly not making top 40 music at all.

but to say that on a german/european radio station is rather easy… i doubt she would have the balls to say that to americans, on an american station, right there on their faces.

DON’T FORGET THE ULTIMATE RETRO QUEEN AMY WINEHOUSE

This American bitch from Lake Placid, New York gonna shade her own country? That’s right bitches. Her album, on repeat, was my entire spring, summer, and fall. Of course American’s don’t get any bitch who don’t follow a formula. I’m American, but I know this melting pot is chock full of ignorant, dumbass bitches. And why the HELL did Chad Michaels win drag race? SMH.

  • AzB

I think this is yet another example of how intelligent Miss Lana is. She’s fully aware that America has very little interest in her (because, as she rightly guesses, they’re too concerned with top 40 shit) so she’s not only disassociating herself from the star-spangled banner, but aligning herself with her ever-sceptical-of-the-US European fan-base. Round of applause Del Rey, savvy as ever.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lucaswoodstock Lucas Oliveira Dantas

it is very interesting you cite the BPMs are higher and music is more frivolous. it has a lot to do with society and its economical state: the more people have to worry about money and paying bills the less they want to think about the music they’re listening, or the films and tv shows they’re watching and much less about the news and information they’re consuming.

however i admit this is a rather reducionist line of thought to analyze america’s music taste, because if you think of the past 15 to 20 years, you notice a progression on that – so was the economy showing its problematic signs through the top 40 all this time?

lol okay, i’m tripping. but i think the worrisome part is less what people are prefering to listen to and more why stabilished artists are also falling into that trend; because it is understandable that overhyped divas like rihanna and lady gaga need to release more palatable music EVERY SINGLE YEAR. they MUST keep themselves heard and known by the general public because the next them could show up at anytime and then they’re comercially dead.

but why people like madonna are failing into that, releasing shits like mdna is the real mystery. when i think of madonna, btw, i can only think: she’s so lazy about doing music nowadays that she’s just doing whatever everyone’s doing.

I’ve been following this blog for a while now and this is my first post here. I agree with Lana Del Rey. She should go where she’s appreciated the most. Lana Del Rey’s music slays my soul…she’s my favorite. :) I’m glad I got to see her live in NYC earlier this year because who knows when she will be back here in the states again. (The music here is really bad these days…I don’t even listen to pop radio. I can’t take it! Thank god for K pop music and indie music because the top 40 stuff is crap.) lol

  • June24th

    yet they hate country music…

Rihanna isnt from the states…bitch gots a work visa. Replace her with Gaga.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jawon-Palacios/100001497130995 Jawon Palacios

Ive always thought im in the wrong country…she is right. My generation has a short extension span with music, and your only as good as your next hit!

  • http://twitter.com/PunkRockPrinc3 Bubblegum Bitch

American radio has never heard of variety, they overkill Top 40 hits of the same generic make-up and literally will play NOTHING else. The only good American acts now are all underground and if they dare make anything that sounds different from the Top 40 dance anthems Europe is the best best where diversity and elegance is appreciated.

Its the same reasons why The Killers will always get a #1 album in the UK but not in America.

  • http://www.twitter.com/themusicprophet The Music Prophet

    Excellent point!

  • http://www.twitter.com/themusicprophet The Music Prophet

Well, the idiot teens do … But Country actually moves a lot of copies… Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Zac Brown Band and Jason Aldean all had huge albums this year

  • http://www.twitter.com/themusicprophet The Music Prophet

    Absolutely excellent point!

  • Anon

I don’t really feel like she has anything to complain about. The amount of success and fame she has gotten for not being a Top 40 artist here in the US is pretty remarkable.

  • Anon

Um..the US is responsible for Rihanna. We dragged her here and then forced her on the world.

  • leesigh3

Pretty soon she’ll have a fake British accent like Madonna. Not a good look.

  • -ΛalexisR-

Yeah I agree but Rihanna and Nicki are both highly successful in the UK and internationally.

  • Ymcmb

And nicki is from trinidad and tobago.

You are my hero. I love this comment.

Lana is a flawless queen and her music gives me LIFE. Her shit is deep and all those fucking critics dissing her need to sit the eff down and compare it to the shit they’re praising and all the garbage on the radio. Within one week of hearing Lan Del Rey’s music, I had 12 of her songs downloaded. Her lyrics are fantastic, her music videos are deep and meaningful, and her voice is pure sultry goodness.

Even when she says and does something a little trashy, she still does it with enough class to make you look at it artistically. This bitch is bad and the Grammys are shit for overlooking her work, but then again, they always are.

Stay in Europe my dear. Americans are glued to superficial shit. They can’t appreciate the retro fabulosity that you are embody.

  • http://twitter.com/MyTrainIsOff Katrina

    Australia loves her too

  • Z

But I live in the United States! And we love & understand your music!! Maybe not everyone but i sure do. I wish she tours here one day ;/
