Kid Cudi has officially scrapped his upcoming hip-hop mixtape A Man Named Scotty — the official sequel to his 2008 breakout debut A Kid Named Cudi — in order to focus on his new band 2 Be Continuum and their upcoming rock debut Wizard.
Writing on his official Tumblr page, Cudi said: “A Man Named Scott is scrapped everyone, I know its a bummer but ive just been too busy with this new album and thats where all my energy and focus is right now. I gotta work on what moves me creatively. After this im going straight to work on MOTM3 so dont trip. You’ll definately have the WIZARD album this year so no worries. Trust im working extra hard to make this shit as amazing as possible and get yall some new jams.”
The good news, as Cudi mentioned, is that Man On the Moon III is due out next year, which will officially close the MOTM trilogy that he started with 2009′s MOTM: The End of Day.
As for the Wizard album, Cudi’s already given us a few tastes of what to expect with the leaked demo “Perfect is the Word” and recent Fright Night soundtrack single “No One Believes Me”. Both songs are relatively slow, fuzzy and alternative, with minimal structure in the place of traditional structure. The sound seems to have turned off some of Cudi’s urban fans, but they’ll probably just be replaced hipster rock fans, so there’s no real loss there.
A Kid Named Cudi is easily one of my favorite ‘albums’ of the past few years so I was looking forward to the sequel, but I love the 2 Be Continuum stuff, too, and the faster MOTM3 rolls around, the better.
What do you guys think?
