Kid Cudi and Cage kill people in “MANIAC” mini-movie

Ah, Kid Cudi – how nice of you to finally join us.
Man On the Moon II dropped almost a year ago today, but it’s only been in recent months that the Cudster has actually bothered promoting the thing. In September he dropped a music video for the album’s non-single “Mr. Rager”, and earlier today Cudi and his cohort Cage finally released the long-awaited visual for another one of the album’s non-singles, “MANIAC”.
The video comes in the form of a violent 10-minute mini-movie directed by actor Shia Lebeouf, and contains no actual music except for a few instrumental scraps from “MANIAC”.
This video ain’t as good as what T-ara’s “Cry Cry” is gon’ be, but proceed below for the tea anyway.
The visual follows the cold and reckless pair of Cudi and Cage as they go on a Christmas murder spree with a camera crew in tow, shooting innocent folk, robbing pharmacies, and kissing corpses. The majority is shot in black & white, and it’s all in French. Why, you ask? I’m guessing it was Kanye West’s lame idea.
“Yo Cudi man, you need to shoot this “MANIAC” thing in black & white, and make it all in FRENCH! It’ll give it that next level edge you know? We ain’t just makin’ videos, we’re making ART, and it’s up to us to lead the way and fight this mainstream bullshit. It’s like my masterpiece ‘Runaway’, which was inspired by Fellini. Man, I ain’t never sat through a Fellini film all the way, they just way too long, but man, it’s just about cutting through the crap and doing some real shit. WHAT DO YOU MEAN TAYLOR SWIFT’S NEW ALBUM SOLD 6 MILLION WORLDWIDE! This bitch is STILL on my DAMN DICK getting those sales off of my name. Nobody knew who she was before me. You may as well add those 6 milli figures to my tally coz she is irrelevant without Yeezy, ya heard?”
Nah, that’s actually not the real reason. It was in French and black & white because “MANIAC” is a recreation of the Belgian film Man Bites Dog. It’s a clear homage, but a rather pointless one. Cudi made one of the best albums of 2010, only to barely promote it, and then when he finally releases another music video from the damn thing, it contains no actual music and is an exact replica of something we’ve seen before.

Seriously dude, that’s not cool, and the only person that this mini-movie is going to blow away are stupid Kanye West stans. At least next time put some music in the music video, mini-movie, whatever you want to call it.
FYI: I still love you Cudi and you’re forever my husband.
