Kelly Rowland opens up about her new album and new management “Now it’s MY show!”

Kelly Rowland recently did a major interview with one of her fansites where she basically spilled the tea on everything to do with her third album, as well as how she’s finding her new management.

You can either watch the 40 minute interview above, or just check out the good stuff that I transcribed for ya’ll.

Ms Kelly began the interview by opening up about her new album, which she feels is “the most important” of her career.

“The album is coming along amazing. It’s been really easy. Everybody is in a place of wanting it to be done. I’m not trying to rush myself either because this record means a lot to me and I want a lot to be said on the record. And I feel that it’s probably my most important album to date.”

She then delved into the albums sound, which she says will mix her urban roots with the current dance sound that’s polluting populating the airwaves right now.

“I’d say it’s actually a mix between dance and urban, but the way I do it on the album is really cool [laughs]. David and Rico love really helped me balance out the record. I can never forget my urban roots, but where dance is right now is so beautiful and it brings people together and it’s so fun and I enjoy that to, so to fuse that fun and that soul together sounds great so far in the studio.

“Everybody that I’ve been with in the studio has been extremely creative and innovative.”

Kelly then revealed that the album is half-finished and they are looking for a “summer, late summer” release date. She also added that she still hasn’t found the “stand out” song yet that she wants for the first single.

She then mentioned that she has a few features and surprises that she’s working on that she doesn’t want to discuss yet, but she is trying to do another record with rapper Nelly.

“I reached out to Nelly to see if we should try something again in the studio and it looks like we might. I’m definitely trying to string that along.”

Kelly then listed most of the producers she’s working with, naming David Guetta, Cutfather, Syience, Jim Jonsin, Bangladesh, Rico Love, Claude Kelly, Lyndrea Price,  Andre Merrit, Brian Kennedy, Rob A, and Warren “Oak” Felder.

She then expressed that she’s met with Pharrell and Danja and hopes to work with them, and she would also like to get in the studio with will.i.am.

Kelly was also asked about leaving Mathew Knowles and getting new management, which she seemed over the moon about.

“In July I did announce that I had new management and it’s working out great. I can’t complain, I’m very happy. The coolest part of having new management is just the fact that it’s “My show”. It’s my show and that’s a blessing.”

Nice to see she isn’t having any regrets! She also said something interesting after that as well when a fan asked her what she’d like to be remembered for.

“I’d like to be remembered as a good person who treated people kind and well. And fair — That above anything.”

I guess that Kelly knows a lot about being treated unfairly if you know what I mean!

So that’s basically it for the mega Kelly update. Some other things she mentioned was that she’s working with a vocal coach, she’s been in talks with Brandy to do a duet, she doesn’t like her song “Broken” which she was forced to do, and that she thought about naming her new album Graffiti but then Chris Brown did.

Phew. Now what are your predictions success-wise for Kellys third album?

  7. The Prophet Says:

NOBODY asked her about a label which was a hot mess, but I’m pretty sure it’s EMI. They may have asked her about it, but she probably ignored the question.

And I cant be bothered posting Le-Lew. She never gets any comments here anymore. Ill add the song in when I have agood news post to do on her.

And as for Kat Deluna… well… what’s a Kat Deluna?

  13. TRUTH-TELLER Says:

I love Kelly she is sooo humble good thing she finally stood up for herself and left Mathew Knowles of course her next album will do good onece she is signed to a label and they give her promotion 1-3 million worldwide ..i think if she focuses more time internationally like in the UK, Brazil,Japan,Australia, Europe,France especially then it will help up the sales of her album.Shes more of a international artist she should record some songs in french. Also i think she should change her hair back to straight with bangs:)

  14. TC Says:

I think she will pass 100K in the first week in the US. But I think it will be a huge international SMASH!

Kelly has an undeniable fanbase outside of the US, so if her team can get together and come up with a strategy, and hot 1st single for the US, then she will do great.

  15. Megi Says:

Huge congratulations for Grammy nominations for WLTO in Best Dance Track/Collab.!

  16. J2201987 Says:

I’m happy for Kelly. She’s taking control of her career. She seems happy, content, and dignified (even though she’s the only one who can actually do a tell-all and be truthful about it *wink**nudge*) by not throwing shade at the (K)iller (K)nowles (K)lan. I don’t think I would have stated that I don’t have a standout single, that makes the fans worry. But I think if she’s presented well, she will do well (In the region of 90k-120k as far as first week sales).

  17. keshia Says:

she won’t do well here, if i were her, i would concentrate on continuing to build a fan in europe and work that- they are loyal- here, it will be hard for her to stand out but i wish her well

  18. Deva Says:

*dead* Im so excited … Kelly’s last album I LOVED It … So glad she’s getting the backing and attention she deserves.

  19. HEALTHY BLACK QUEENS Says:

DEFINITELY concentrate on the international market! The US market is the biggest, but whenever foreigners aim their music at the US, they flop. If the US jumps on board later on, great, if not, it’s not the end of the world. Being big worldwide is more impressive than only being known in one country.

  20. brit Says:

She has got a MASSIVE fan base in Europe, Asia & Austrila already.

When she was with DC she was big there ofcourse but since going solo it’s been meh… Not disaster but not great so I think that’s what she needs to work on is the U.K!

Im a massive Kelly fan and I wont deny it to be big in the U.S She needs a feature. She has said she has worked with Akon and soon will work with Will .I. Am. If she has a major hot track with Akon and it’s promoted the hell out of it in the U.S She can’t go wrong!!

  21. BlackNLatin Says:

Ohhhh!! I hope Kelly can really get her shine in this music biz without the knowles!!

  22. Johnta Says:

What does she need a vocal coach for, her vocal technique is perfect most of the time.

  23. sonnie45 Says:

    i LOOOOOOVVEEEEEEEEEEE me sum KELLY.!
shes so humble and deserves a WORLD TOUR.!
i think her 3rd albums is gonna do great and not just internationally i feel like with all the bad exposure matthew’s been gettin about his shady antics, it would give her some much needed sales.!
i’m so HYPE 4 diz album.!
please make sure yah support and give her a lot of PROMO.!

  24. TMM09 Says:

Like kelly, she has nice songs and deserves a big break like beyonce. miss dc3 :(

  25. Dave Says:

Stop putting her down. How y’all gone say what she gone do in the US? U never know someone’s potential. She could do well in the US, the only reason she didn’t do that well is because of her promo. But, she did moderately well in the US, not flopping like. Her singles did moderately well. I am so excited. Urban & dance album, a vocal coach, a possible duet with Brandy, Pharell, A-list producers, another possible duet with Nelly,”It’s My Show” Yess Kelly it’s your show. I love this woman. I am definitely getting this album. I support the humble, REAL, talented & deserving. Go head Kell!!

  26. Boom Says:

Really it took Brandy for Kelly to wake up? Fans, blogs and people in the business have been singing for years about snake Mathew Knowles.

  27. IzHeSerious Says:

No one is puttin her down, just being realistic! no one is checking for her in the US so she shouldn’t get her hopes up for that market

  28. sexyboyminaj Says:

Kelly is truly amazing and talented. The right promotion and the right music, she can do big numbers. Besides Beyonce is overrated anyways. *dc3 is truly missed*

  29. quiana Says:

I am so happy for her.

  30. loso Says:

She will do well in the U.S. and worldwide. She can only go up from here and now we are going to see Ms. Kelly in a entire new light. Watch people you guys are going to be amazed by this womans vocal ability. She has not been able to display her true talent until now. People dont get mad at the ones who doubt her being successful in U.S. because that is what Matthew wanted the U.S. fanbase to believe, but now Kelly is about to show the world it is my time and I am a Survivor!!!!!!

  31. Kendall Davis Says:

This all sounds great! I love this, and she deserves the success. I have not heard “On and On”, but I want to. And on her website in the “bio” section, it says she’s going to reprise “When Love Takes Over” for the new album. Has anybody heard “Blaze”,it’s on You Tube. I support her 100 percent baby girl!

  32. Eric Ego Says:

As for the producers. Their hot I also think she should work with R.Kelly and Missy Elliot. I wonder what she’ll name the album? It’s probably going to be like a combo of “The Element Of Freedom” by Alcia Keys and Ciara’s “Ciara:The Evolution”. She is discovering the element of freedom right now. Maybe she Alcia should work together so Alicia can give her a feel for the muic. Also on her website it says she’s trying to show sass and class. Keyshia Cole shows sass and class! If she is going to reprise “When Love Takes Over” it would sound good with the melody’s and beat of “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston.

  33. Kendall Davis Says:

Well, I think she should name the album these possible names:
    “Freedom & Evolution”
    “Freedom”

  34. Kendall Davis Says:

    And also:

    “Evolution”
    “Evolutionary Freedom”
    “Urban Class”
