Kelly Rowland opens up about her new album and new management “Now it’s MY show!”
Kelly Rowland recently did a major interview with one of her fansites where she basically spilled the tea on everything to do with her third album, as well as how she’s finding her new management.
You can either watch the 40 minute interview above, or just check out the good stuff that I transcribed for ya’ll.
Ms Kelly began the interview by opening up about her new album, which she feels is “the most important” of her career.
“The album is coming along amazing. It’s been really easy. Everybody is in a place of wanting it to be done. I’m not trying to rush myself either because this record means a lot to me and I want a lot to be said on the record. And I feel that it’s probably my most important album to date.”
She then delved into the albums sound, which she says will mix her urban roots with the current dance sound that’s polluting populating the airwaves right now.
“I’d say it’s actually a mix between dance and urban, but the way I do it on the album is really cool [laughs]. David and Rico love really helped me balance out the record. I can never forget my urban roots, but where dance is right now is so beautiful and it brings people together and it’s so fun and I enjoy that to, so to fuse that fun and that soul together sounds great so far in the studio.
“Everybody that I’ve been with in the studio has been extremely creative and innovative.”
Kelly then revealed that the album is half-finished and they are looking for a “summer, late summer” release date. She also added that she still hasn’t found the “stand out” song yet that she wants for the first single.
She then mentioned that she has a few features and surprises that she’s working on that she doesn’t want to discuss yet, but she is trying to do another record with rapper Nelly.
“I reached out to Nelly to see if we should try something again in the studio and it looks like we might. I’m definitely trying to string that along.”
Kelly then listed most of the producers she’s working with, naming David Guetta, Cutfather, Syience, Jim Jonsin, Bangladesh, Rico Love, Claude Kelly, Lyndrea Price, Andre Merrit, Brian Kennedy, Rob A, and Warren “Oak” Felder.
She then expressed that she’s met with Pharrell and Danja and hopes to work with them, and she would also like to get in the studio with will.i.am.
Kelly was also asked about leaving Mathew Knowles and getting new management, which she seemed over the moon about.
“In July I did announce that I had new management and it’s working out great. I can’t complain, I’m very happy. The coolest part of having new management is just the fact that it’s “My show”. It’s my show and that’s a blessing.”
Nice to see she isn’t having any regrets! She also said something interesting after that as well when a fan asked her what she’d like to be remembered for.
“I’d like to be remembered as a good person who treated people kind and well. And fair — That above anything.”
I guess that Kelly knows a lot about being treated unfairly if you know what I mean!
So that’s basically it for the mega Kelly update. Some other things she mentioned was that she’s working with a vocal coach, she’s been in talks with Brandy to do a duet, she doesn’t like her song “Broken” which she was forced to do, and that she thought about naming her new album Graffiti but then Chris Brown did.
Phew. Now what are your predictions success-wise for Kellys third album?
