Kelly Clarkson performs for the President.

Last month Kelly Clarkson was in Washington D.C. to film a performance for the America Celebrates July 4th TV special, which just aired today.

In front of President Obama and the First Lady, Kelly performed a sassy, soulful rendition of Nikka Costa’s hit “Everybody Got Their Something”. The R&B/Soul Kelly has been missing in action since the Idol days and her first album era, so it’s nice to see that she’s still got it in her.

As usual, most people will probably focus on Kelly’s hair, her weight, her outfit and God knows what else, but the performance was a total knockout and I hope that other things don’t overshadow her vocal talent.

    i think she and pink are the most versatile pop artists out there. pop, rnb, rock, they can do it all.

    and for the record, i think kelly looks lovely. and she looks lovely because she made an effort and looked the part. she doesnt have to be skinny to look hot. it’s just that she’s stubborn and chooses to look like a slob most of the time.

    Loved it! Love sassy, soulful KC. It was cool to see the first lady jamming along, lol.

    I’m pretty sure someone from her band or maybe it was her mentioned the stage was really hot, you can tell because her hair looked messy during the performance like it was humid in the room.

    Eh, I don’t mind people saying mean things about KC’s appearance no one’s perfect. People have been calling her fat since idol and now those people are like she used to be so skinny on idol, lol people always gotta bitch about something.

    Kelly killed, as usual. The audience looked a bit awkward at times [Michelle in particular]. As long as she’s healthy her weight shouldn’t matter {not every big person has diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc.}

    I agree with you about Pink & Kelly. To me, they’re the best contemporary pop artists working today, hands down. No one can touch then in talent or class.

    I also agree that Kelly should put in more of an effort style wise, but I love her regardless

    i love kelly’s voice but honestly, she has all that money and she looks like a slob and is overweight. The girl is sooo beautiful and has an amazing voice. To me its distasteful to have all that money and cannot even invest in looking decent have the time. She looked beautiful here but she was out of breath singing that song (thats a sign of being immensely out of shape) she could not even hold the long notes, even at the end, she probably wanted to a little run and just was out of breath and missed the chance! you see it in her face at the end before she says thank you. Oh Kelly, please get it together..you are supposed to be an inspiration to people and you look like one of the many we walk along the street and wonder “how could they let themselves get to THAT point?” Yea people, don’t front I’m sure everyone of y’all had done that at some point. Good luck Kelly, hopefully she slims down for her next record becuz breakaway was marketable and all i ever wanted was fine when she started but towards the middle of that era she exploded. Im worried for her honestly…

    Kelly’s chubby but no way is she obese! jeez Kelly’s always been a bit of a tomboy. During Breakaway she’d always wear no makeup, baseball hat, even on Idol during her packages she didn’t have any makeup on.

    I think people with that mentality of ‘image’ are the ones that want her to compete with other females but she doesn’t care about that. She does workout though; she and her backup singers have been tweeting about doing pilates lately, so maybe she is trying. I’m more interested in what genres she’s going for this upcoming era, not how many lbs will she lose?

    Fact 1 = Kelly Clarkson is easily the best voice in the industry right now. With Celine Dion not really releasing new material, and Christina Aguilera being a one style voice, and recently, a flop…. you have to admit, No one has the range and vocal style options that Kelly Clarkson has.

    Fact 2 – I do agree w/people that Kelly IS NOT obese, however she is a little overweight, and you can hear the affect on her voice. I don’t think that it’s the weight though, I think she just forgot about the run at the end. I saw the “All I ever Wanted Tour” in 2009, and she was the same size and KILLED IT live …. I do agree though that w/all the $$ she could lose a little weight and put a little more into her presentation. That being said though, I agree w/Kelly about the fact that it’s a shallow industry, and you shouldn’t have to adhere to what people want to see. Kelly has a VOICE. She’s doesn’t have Beyonce’s body …. but she has one of the most recognizeable voices around. That’s all that matters, and her album sales speak for themselves

    Fact 3 – Kelly still KILLED this performance. She was sassy and soulful, and even w/the few extra pounds…. she looked beautiful in that dress. Not my personal favorite hair style on her …. but she still looked beautiful as always.

    I don’t see a problem with Kelly being chubby, but I agree it would be a good idea if she slimmed down. However, not because of society’s pressures, rather it’s just healthier and better for Kelly. I think all true fans just want to see Kelly happy and healthy. If she can do that with her current weight, then great, but slimming down a bit would be good for her. :)

    I don’t care what size Kelly Clarkson is…although no one rocks that song like Nikka Costa to me, Kelly did a great job. I enjoyed her performance. Kelly doesn’t seem to allow the ridiculous entertainment industry standards effect her and I respect that a lot.

    @starlight – nah i wouldn’t worry about that. Only a small portion of kelly’s fans even went to lilith (hence, why it’s sold so poorly). She wasn’t the only artist to drop out and many forget that it’s not just KC but her entire crew she has to worry about, as far as finances go. I know for the AIEW tour she had a crew of 30 people, so it may not have made sense to be on a sinking ship tour with low attendance and cancelations.

    New album news! She’s going to the studio today to work w/ producer Howard Benson (I Do Not Hook Up, Cry, Don’t Let Me Stop You). I’ve been reading on forms… guess some fans don’t want him to work on the album. I liked the songs he produced on AIEW, but they do seem a little too loud, he has to keep in mind unlike most artists out there when it comes to KC, her voice is the highlight not the music. However, he does very little filter to kc’s voice, so that’s good. Just needs to tone down the music’s level.

    ahh! I want her to spill more details already!! If all goes according to plan, her first single will be out Sept. so I’m expecting info to be pouring in next month!
